The definite integral is one of the subjects that is difficult for students to understand because the process of calculating definite integral of functions is quite complicated and long because it requires mastery of some integrating rules so an interactive learning simulation application is needed to make it easier for students to calculate definite integral of functions and the depiction of the area the curve. One method for calculating definite integrals is the trapezoid method. The trapezoid method works by dividing the boundary into 2 intervals namely x = x0 to x = x1. Simulation media application learning will be designed with the VB.Net programming language. This simulation media learning starts with reading and checking data input. The process is continued by displaying the depiction of the input curve and ending with calculating the area of the curve. Simulation media learning provides a facility to store the input data, the results of the calculation of the area and the image of the curve function in the image format of * .bmp. In this media, the media and material expert’s the results of the average are produced by 88.68% included into media category is very valid media and the results of pre-test and post-test trials showed an increase with an average value of 48.3 for pre-test and 87 for the post-test of the passing grade requirement of 70.Keywords: Definite Integral, Trapezoid Method,VB.Net, Media Validation.

Inappropriate learning processes can lead to low learning results and student inactivity. This research (PTK) aims to improve learning outcomes and activeness of students in VIIH class of SMP Negeri 6 Salatiga students in rectangular and triangular material through Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning application model. The model used in this research is Kemmis & Mc Taggart spiral model. It shows that the average result in the class is 64,4 (have not reach the minimum requirement) with percentage in passing the requirement of 46.40%. In cycle 2, the result increased with passing the average grade of 81.2 (fulfilling KKM) with percentage of 75% for passing grade requirement. Student activeness is increasing along with the learning outcomes. However, average category or high category on the 1st cycle is at 50,14%, while on the 2nd cycle, it can reach out to 80% or more. The two results concluded that implementing NHT could improve learning outcomes and activeness of students in VIIH class of SMPN 6 Salatiga.

Studies on washback of testing have been recently conducted. This demonstrates that there is a growing awareness that testing can have consequences beyond just the classroom. For one decade, Ministry of Education in Indonesia has administered National Examination (NE) as the standardized test for passing grade requirement. In spite of its good aim, NE has become one of controversial issues among educators, students and even parents. Some say yes while some others say no. This paper was mainly attempted to display some impacts, not all, of NE toward the test takers, the students. A qualitative research was employed where the data taken from observation and questionnaires to 20 students. The result of the study showed that most of the students felt unconfident with their score in National Examination due to the fact that their English competence was considered low. However, the difficulty of NE did not significantly affect their studying English language. In other words, the washback of NE on their study was negative.

One of the determinants for a successful career is academic performance.  The study sought to determine the academic performance of freshmen Education students from the school years 2010–2013. The data were gathered through prepared questionnaires. Collected data were analyzed through frequency counts, percentage, and measure of central tendency. Results showed that more female students were attracted to teaching profession. Moreover, it was discovered that their parents are farmers and housekeepers with an average monthly income of Php 9, 752.92 (216 USD) only. Most of the respondents graduated from public high schools. Some of them did not meet CHED’s grade requirement of 85% when enrolled. Test of relationship between high school and college GPAs (academic performance) showed a moderate inverse relationship.  The Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) showed a significant linear relationship between high school (GPA) and college (GPA) at .01 alpha level of significance. Therefore, students’ academic performance in college can be determined by their high school GPA. With this, CHED’s regulating policy during enrollment should be strictly practiced in the Visayas State University (VSU), Philippines. Lastly, the College of Education should impose retention scheme for freshmen Education students especially for males.

For the improvement of processing and the increase of refined products of Chinese insect wax, it was carried out on the raw wax for its refining in the pilot plants. After the treatment, it was raised the melting point and reduced the acid value, iodine value, saponification value and insoluble substances of benzene significantly. The quality of final products was accord to the industrial top-grade requirement. The yield of refined wax was ranging from 72.76% to 74.30% and the whiteness was 51.8% to 56.3%. It was not observed any chemical changes of the wax during the processing.

In order to improve the flame resistance and reduce the formaldehyde emission of plywood, a multifunctional formaldehyde scavenger with flame resistance (FSFR) was prepared and used to treat plywoods bonded with high molar ratio urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin. The weight percent gain (WPG), formaldehyde emission, oxygen index (OI), and bonding strength of plywoods after FSFR treated were measured to evaluated properties of FSFR. The results showed that the formaldehyde emission of the treated plywood was 0.1-0.32 mg/L, which could meet the E0 grade requirement (<0.5 mg/L ). The flame resistance of treated plywood increased significantly and the bonding strength changed little. The formaldehyde emission decreased 96.8 % and OI increased 47.2 % and the bonding strength kept unchanged when FSFR reached 8.87 % compared with that of untreated plywood.

Two individually-adaptive mathematics courses for urban high school youth were developed by a Commonwealth CAI Consortium to help satisfy the ninth grade requirement for general mathematics and algebra in Pennsylvania. A description of the courses and of the computer system, and an analysis of the effectiveness of the CAI-mediated mathematics courses are the subjects of this paper.
