PROMINENT ROLE OF ACADEMICIAN PETRO FEODOSIYOVYCH GOZHYK IN ACTIVITIES OF THE PALEONTOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF UKRAINE

The general information about the Paleontological Society of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, its structure, composition and the main directions of activity are given. The actual problems of the current state of paleontological and stratigraphic research in Ukraine are represented and the role of the Paleontological Society in their development is shown. Various aspects of the Society's activity during the presidency of the academician P.F. Gozhyk are described during 2003–2020. The interrelation of current problems and challenges facing modern geological science and practice and topics of sessions is traced. The dynamics of the topics and the main problems considered during the 18 years at the sessions in connection with international programs and research and production projects developed in Ukraine are shown. The content and main scientific results of the program reports presented by Petro Feodosiyovych at the plenary sessions are described. The huge contribution of Petro Feodosiyovych Gozhyk to the development of the Paleontological Society and the leading role in its successful activity is determined. Emphasis is placed on the significant organizational abilities of Petro Feodosiyovych, the depth and diversity of his scientific interests, as well as his excellent human qualities. The program of priority tasks of the Paleontological Society of NAS of Ukraine and the prospects of further paleontological research in Ukraine are outlined, which were developed under the leadership by P.F. Gozhyk.

Investigating The Phenomena Of Geological Terms And Their Translation Problems In Linguistics

The terminology of a particular field of science or technology is highly specialized structure. At each historical stage in the development of geology, the number of lexical units of geological terminology is commensurate with the mass of acquired knowledge. With the growth of knowledge, the need for new terms increases, which is partially offset by borrowing terms from other areas of knowledge and to some extent satisfied by the formation of new terms. The article is about the term system of geology. It tries to describe the phenomena inherent in Geology and the problems of their their translation. Texts related to geological science are very difficult to study, and not only ordinary people experience difficulties in acquaintance with one of these texts, but also difficulties arise among specialists. Geological systems of terms are of great importance not only for our country, but also for the whole world. , since the development of the earth's crust is carried out in all corners of the globe.

CELEBRATING THE 85th JUBILEE OF MARINE GEOPHYSICIST, DR. LAZAR KOGAN

The author, Dr. Lazar Kogan, who dedicated the previous article to the anniversary of geophysicist Professor Yuri Neprochnov, will have anniversary on his own – he turn 85 years on September 12, 2020. He, like Yuri Neprochnov, was born in Tashkent in 1935, where he graduated from high school in 1953. After school, on the advice his older friend of Yuri Neprochnov, Kogan decided to pursue profession of geological science, and he entered Geological Department of Tashkent Polytechnic Institute, which he graduated in 1958 with the qualification of a mining engineer - geophysicist. In 1967, he completes his qualification work and receives a Ph.D. In 1986, he defends his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences at the All-Union Research Institute of Oceanic Geology, specializing in seismic profiling of deep geological layers. From 1958 to 2015 worked as a marine geophysicist at the seas and World Ocean and since 2015, he works, as consultant is seismic geological surveillance. During his scientific career, Dr. Kogan participated in more than 40 scientific expeditions, some of which he directed himself. He published about 150 scientific works and 7 monographs.
