Abstract In the present study, copper (II) complex of 4, 4′-di-tert-butyl-2,2′-bipyridine [Cu (C18H24N2) (NO3)2], 1 is investigated through its synthesis and characterization using elemental analysis technique, infra-red spectroscopy, and single-crystal analysis. The compound 1 crystallizes in orthorhombic space group P212121. The copper atom in the mononuclear complex is hexa coordinated through two nitrogen and four oxygen atoms from bipyridine ligand and nitrate ligands. The thermal analysis depicts the stability of the entitled compound up to 170 °C, and the decomposition takes place in different steps between 170 and 1000 °C. Furthermore, quantum chemical techniques are used to study optoelectronic, nonlinear optical, and therapeutic bioactivity. The values of isotropic and anisotropic linear polarizabilities of compound 1 are calculated as 41.65 × 10−24 and 23.02 × 10−24 esu, respectively. Likewise, the static hyperpolarizability is calculated as 47.92 × 10−36 esu using M06 functional compared with para-nitroaniline (p-NA) and found several times larger than p-NA. Furthermore, the antiviral potential of compound 1 is studied using molecular docking technique where intermolecular interactions are checked between the entitled compound and two crucial proteins of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Our investigation indicated that compound 1 interacts more vigorously to spike protein than main protease (MPro) due to its better binding energy of −9.60 kcal/mol compared with −9.10 kcal/mol of MPro. Our current study anticipated that the above-entitled coordination complexes could be potential candidates for optoelectronic properties and their biological activity.

The title four-coordinate mononuclear complex, [Hg(C3H5OS2)2(C6H16N2)] or [Hg(C3H5OS2)2(tmeda)] (tmeda: N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethane-1,2-diamine), has a distorted tetrahedral geometry. The HgII ion is coordinated to two N atoms of the N,N,N′,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine ligand and two S atoms from two ethylxanthate xanthate ligands. In the crystal, molecules are linked by weak C—H...S hydrogen bonds, forming a two-dimensional supramolecular architecture in the ab plane. The most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H...H (59.3%), S...H (27.4%) and O...H (7.5%) interactions.

A new RuII–ReII complex salt, μ-cyanido-κ2 C:N-bis[(η5-cyclopentadienyl)bis(3,5,7-triazaphosphaadamantane-κP)ruthenium(II)] tetrabromido(ethanol/methanol-κO)nitrosylrhenate(II), [Ru(CN)(C5H5)2(C6H12N3P)4][ReBr4(NO)(CH4O)0.5(C2H6O)0.5] or [RuCp(PTA)2–μ-CN–1κC:2κ2 N-RuCp(PTA)2][Re(NO)Br4(EtOH)0.5(MeOH)0.5] (PTA = 3,5,7-triazaphosphaadamantane) was obtained and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy. The title salt was obtained by liquid–liquid diffusion of methanol/DMSO solutions of (NBu4)[Re(NO)Br4(EtOH)] and [(PTA)2CpRu–μ-CN–1κC:2κ2 N-RuCp(PTA)2](CF3SO3). The RuII and ReII independent moieties correspond to a binuclear and mononuclear complex ion, respectively. A deep geometrical parameter analysis was performed, and no significant differences were found with earlier reports containing similar molecules. The magnetic properties were investigated in the temperature range 2.0–300 K, and the complex behaves as a quasi-magnetically isolated spin doublet with weak antiferromagnetic interactions.

Three new copper coordination compounds derived from 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)propionic acid (dmpa) and hexamethylenetetramine (hmta) were obtained and their crystal structures were determined. The stoichiometry of the reagents applied in the syntheses reflects the metal to ligand molar ratio in the formed solid products. Due to the multiple coordination modes of the used ligands, wide structural diversity was achieved among synthesized compounds, i.e., mononuclear [Cu(dmp)2(hmta)2(H2O)] (1), dinuclear [Cu2(dmp)4(hmta)2] (2), and 1D coordination polymer [Cu2(dmp)4(hmta)]n (3). Their supramolecular structures are governed by O—H•••O and O—H•••N hydrogen bonds. The compounds were characterized in terms of absorption (UV-Vis and IR) and thermal properties. The relationships between structural features and properties were discussed in detail. Owing to discrepancies in the coordination mode of a dmp ligand, bidentate chelating in 1, and bidentate bridging in 2 and 3, there is a noticeable change in the position of the bands corresponding to the stretching vibrations of the carboxylate group in the IR spectra. The differences in the structures of the compounds are also reflected in the nature and position of the UV-Vis absorption maxima, which are located at lower wavelengths for 1.

The synthesis and structural characterization of six dicyanamido-cadmium(II) complexes are reported: catena-[Cd(μ1,3-dca)(μ1,5-dca)(3-ampy)] (1), catena-[Cd3(μ1,3,5-dca)2(μ1,5-dca)4(pyNO)2(H2O)2] (2), catena-{Cd(H2O)2(μ1,5-dca)2](2,6-lut-NO)} (3), catena-[Cd(Me2en)(μ1,5-dca)2] (4), catena-[Cd(Me4en)(μ1,5-dca)2] (5), and [Cd(1,8-damnp)2(dca)2] (6), where dca = dicyanamide anion, 3-ampy = 3-aminopyridine, pyNO = pyridine-N-oxide, 2,6-lut-NO = 2,6-lutidine-N-oxide, Me2en = N,N-dimethyl-ethylenediamine, Me4en = N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyl-ethylenediamine, and 1,8-damnp = 1,8-diaminonaphthaline. The coordination polymers have different dimensionalities: 1 and 5 form 3D networks structures; 3 and 4 form polymeric 1D chains and 1DD double chains, respectively. Ribbons of three fused polymeric chains are observed in 2. In 6, the mononuclear complex units form a hydrogen-bonded supramolecular 3D network. In the coordination polymer compounds, the dca linkers display three bonding modes: the most common μ1,5-dca and the least popular μ1,3- and μ1,3,5-dca bonding. The luminescence emission and thermal properties of the complexes were investigated.
