We present a case of a 24-year-old woman who changed her name 3 years after the diagnosis of schizophrenia. She had recurrent thoughts of changing her name for over a year and described her feelings as terrible as if captured in a dark room. She also had obsessional thoughts regarding God talking to her, body image and size. Low self-esteem was a constant feature. The psychopathology of her name changing seemed to be meshed between normal desire, obsessional fixation, overvalued ideas of its benefit, and psychotic thought processes.

Abstract C-doped TiO2 (C-TiO2) was synthesised using a solvothermal method with ethanol/TBT/LDPE medium. Microstructure and elemental composition of C-TiO2 were analysed with TEM and XPS. An anti-bacterial device was utilized for photocatalytic inhibition of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The device to measure bacteriostatic action was placed in a dark room, and the bacterial culture was placed in a holding cup which contained holding box and nanoparticulate C-TiO2. This approach was convenient for addition and removal of C-TiO2. Photocatalytic bacteriostasis by C-TiO2 under visible-light irradiation was quantitively assessed for bacteriostatic properties. Moreover, the qualitative assessment of anti-bacterial activity with C-TiO2 was less significant for gram-positive bacteria in comparison to gram-negative bacteria.

Dzogchen (“Great Perfection”) is a philosophical and yogic tradition largely developed within the Bönpo tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Its first datable sources surface on the religious scene of Tibet sometime around the late 10th to the early 11th century with the discoveries of Treasure text (gter ma) that are supposed to have been hidden during the 8th century and earlier, as well as with the seminal composition of texts and commentaries that are based on these Treasures. Some of its teachings are also presented as having been transmitted orally from archaic, undatable times through an uninterrupted lineage of masters. Groups of lay Bönpo practitioners, later followed by monastics of the same tradition, started to gather around the discoverers and authors of these works, thus creating the first postdynastic religious communities of Bön dispersed throughout Tibet. Deeply enriched by the integration of a vast amount of traditional Buddhist literature, the Bön tradition absorbed teachings from all other Tibetan Buddhist lineages. The core of these teachings is made up of profoundly secret instructions said to enable practitioners to reach the state of total Buddhahood in a single lifetime. The quintessence of these teachings focuses upon yogic techniques centered on the contemplation of light sources, such as the sun, the moon, or a butter lamp. Particular methods are also applied in a completely dark room in which special visualizations are combined with yogic devices that lead to visionary experiences which are unique throughout Buddhist teachings. These practices based on colored visions produce various signs manifesting at the end of the practitioner’s life such as the famed Rainbow Body (‘ja’ lus).

In Sections 7, 8, 27, and 28, I discuss my discovery of black light. |The theoretical discovery of black light (that is, the thought experimental discovery of black light): The black spatial field in, for example, a “dark” room is actually, I argue, black light; and it is emitted from everything in the spatial field of the room (that is, the relatively empty space, and all objects). If, hypothetically, the black light in the above room was removed, we, when we would look into the spatial field of the room, would be blind, despite that we have the capacity to see. |The observational discovery of black light: There is no such thing as a “colorless” visual field for observers: A “colorless” visual field would be a visual field of blindness for observers, despite that they have vision, and that their eyes would be open. The black visual field is not, as is commonly stated, “the absence of photons”, “the absence of visible light”, and the, as such, absence of color: If it were, then it would be “colorless” (that is, not black), and, as such, a visual field of blindness for observers. |The experimental confirmation of black light via neurophysics: In Section 28, I demonstrate that particular EEG experimentation that was done on test-subjects in various conditions provides evidence or proof that the black of the black visual field that strikes our retinas is black light.

Background: Depression affects various brain functions. According to previous studies, escitalopram influences brain functions in depression and crocin reduces memory impairments. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the therapeutic effects of using crocin and escitalopram (separately and in combination) on learning and memory in rats with stress-induced depression. Methods: Fifty-six rats were allocated into seven groups of control, sham, continuous depression, recovery period, daily injections of escitalopram, crocin and escitalopram-crocin during 14 days after inducing depression by stress. Passive avoidance (PA) test was used to assess brain functions. Results: Latency has significant differences in depression group. Also, it significantly increased in depression-crocin, depression-escitalopram and depression-escitalopram-crocin groups compared to the depression group. The dark stay (DS) time was significantly higher in the depression and depression-recovery groups. However, the DS time significantly decreased in the depression-crocin, depression-escitalopram and depression-escitalopram-crocin groups. Furthermore, the number of entrances to the dark room was significantly lower in depression-crocin and depression-escitalopram-crocin groups compared to the depression one. Conclusion: Different depression treatments (i.e. crocin, escitalopram and crocin- escitalopram) reduced depression-induced memory deficits. Crocin and escitalopram-crocin, respectively, improved brain functions and locomotor activity more than escitalopram. Comparatively, in subjects with depression, crocin, which is an effective saffron constituent, partially affected the memory deficits better than escitalopram (as a chemical component).

There is no standard for high-visibility safety clothing for general pedestrians, nor is it widely used. Therefore, this study investigated visibility in order to examine the standards for high-visibility safety clothing for general pedestrians. Methods: Twenty healthy participants (mean age, 22.4 ± 4.4 years) without ocular disease, except for refractive errors, were studied. All participants had healthy visual acuity in corrected vision. This study assumed sunset conditions in Japan. The light source was set up in a dark room, and the illuminance in front of the visual target was set to 300 lx. We investigated the visibility of 142 patterns of black and yellow combination samples with different spatial frequencies, pattern types, angles, and color ratios. Results: The highest visibility was found at 5.0 cycles per degree of the stripe pattern at the spatial frequency, yellow ratio of 75%, and a stripe angle of 165°. Conclusions: Under sunset conditions, the brightness decreased when black was combined with yellow. However, it forms a two-color pattern and becomes more conspicuous. The highest visibility was obtained by arranging black and yellow in a diagonal stripe pattern. We predict that establishing clothing standards based on the results of this study will help design safety clothing with increased visibility.

Introduction: This is the first report on insects associated with rabbit carcasses in indoor environment in Kuching, Sarawak. Methods: This study was conducted on June till August of 2016. Rabbit carcasses (Oryctolagous cuniculus) which were used as the animal model, were placed inside a dark room in a building at Forensic Medicine Department in Sarawak General Hospital. The fly larvae infesting on the carcasses were collected until the decomposition process completed. Throughout the 15 days of experiment, the fly larvae were sampled on the carcasses indoor at 28.9 ± 0.3 °C and 69.6 ± 1.0% humidity. Results: The fly larvae activity was observed during the active decay stage and was identified as Synthesiomyia nudiseta (van der Wulp, 1883) (Diptera: Muscidae) and Sarcophaga spp. (Diptera: Sarcophagidae). Only these two species were found co-existing on the carcasses. Conclusions:  S. nudiseta and Sarcophaga spp. could be used as an entomological evidence involving indoor cases in Kuching, Sarawak because both species were dominant and active carcass decomposers in indoor environment.
