The study is about the Scientometric analysis of published articles under the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune since 2001 to 2019. Total of 6449 documents were studied. Specialisation Index and the Research Priority Index have been used for analysing the subjects and their sub-subjects Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Engineering. The study provides an overview of research conducted by the University and tries to show the weaker and stronger areas in four major subjects. The study measures and illustrates the research efforts taken by the Savitribai Phule Pune University in comparison with research efforts taken by the Nation and the World in the same subjects. The study found ‘Physics’ as a specialised subject in the University which obtained 1.455 SI Index Value. The study also reveals that ‘Medical Chemistry’ with 333.2 PI Value in Chemistry, ‘Polymer Science’ with 757.87 PI Value in Physics, ‘Microbiology’ with 1090.51 PI Value in Biology, and ‘Biotechnology Applied Microbiology’ with 936.9 PI Value in Engineering have received the highest research priority and corresponds to the Nation’s research productivity efforts in the same Sub-subjects. The study provides different ranking such as author’s productivity, most cited authors, author’s impact (h-index, g-index, m-index), most-cited journals and most contributed journals.

Sesquiterpene lactones (SL) are widely distributed in nature (formed biosynthetically in plants from farnesyl pyrophosphate) and are a structurally diverse class of terpenoids with 15 carbon atoms in the skeleton and, in addition to the lactone cycle, can contain various functional groups. Some of them exhibit biological activity both in a rather wide range and in relation to a specific target. An increase in the number of undescribed natural plant compounds of this class, as well as detection in various plant species, opens up new possibilities for their use for the purposes of medical chemistry, phytochemistry, pharmacognosy, chemotaxonomy, and related fields. Using the example of SL of the eudesmane structural type found in plants of the genus Inula, this review attempts to show the relevance of studies of such compounds that investigate the mechanism of action on various biological models, including the goal of developing new effective antitumor agents.

Chapter 15, ‘The hearths and altars for the vital fire: medical chemistry and disease’ is based on a close reading of De fermentatione, De febribus, De urinis (1659), De scorbuto (1667), and De sanguinis accensione (1670) in explaining Willis’s concept of how living bodies function. His explanation that the nutritive products of digestion are distributed as chyle, interact with an unknown property of air leading to fermentation, with circulation of the heated blood to body parts where it is further altered, recirculation for refreshment in the lungs, and excretion of residues in several body fluids, is described. An account is given of Willis’s focus on the action of five principles (sulphur, spirit, salt, water, and earth), which heat the blood when inflamed. His description of disorders characterized by fever is described. The chapter ends with a summary of Willis’s treatise on the study of urine in detecting healthy and impaired fermentation. {149 words}

9,10-Anthracenediones an important class among quinonic compounds of natural and synthetic origin with many applications. Amino- and diaminosubstituted 9,10-anthracenediones are one of the main classes among 9,10-anthracenedione derivatives. Primarily, they are the key structures for obtaining various dyes. Besides applying their dye properties, aminoanthracenediones became the objects for searching for new biologically active compounds with antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antioxidant, antiviral, immunostimulating, and antiprotozoal activity in medical chemistry. However, amino- and diamino-substituted 9,10-anthracenediones are widely used as analytical reagents, color, and metal indicators. Areas of the practical application of these compounds are constantly expanding. This mini-review dedicates the advantages of amino- and diamino-9,10-anthracenediones derivatives as biologically active compounds and substances with applied application in various fields.

Computer modeling is a method that is widely used in the scientific investigations. Every year it’s getting more and more popular and becomes an integral part of a number of scientific disciplines, including medical chemistry. Thanks to this method, specialists in the field of drug design can predict the biological activity of a compound and its toxicity, based on the structure of the molecule. This work is a systematic review of articles performed in accordance with the recommendations of PRISMA Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and contains information on computer modeling of the interaction of flavonoids with biological targets.
