Purpose The purpose of this paper is to focus on the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on dividend policy in the French context. In addition, the authors seek to determine if the individual components of CSR influence dividend policy. Design/methodology/approach This study uses panel data methodology for a sample of French non-financial firms between 2008 and 2018. Generalized least squares method is used to estimate the models. Findings Using panel data methodology for a sample of 825 observations for the period 2008–2018, this study finds a positive impact of CSR practices on dividend policy. The authors also find that individual components of CSR positively influence dividend policy. To check the robustness of the results, this study further runs a sensitivity tests, including an alternative measure of dividend policy, all of which confirm the findings. Practical implications This study has examined the impact of CSR on dividend policy in France and may have implications for regulatory, investors, analysts and academics. First, the involvement in CSR best practices encourages companies to pay more dividends to investors. Therefore, investors are more motivated to invest in socially responsible firms than socially irresponsible firms. Second, given the association of CSR with the quality of accounting information and financial markets, regulators should step up recommendations relating to the different societal dimensions of CSR. Originality/value While little previous work has focused on the causal link between CSR and dividend policy, this research is the first, to the authors’ knowledge, to have looked at the impact of CSR on dividend policy in France.

This research examines the effect of the crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic on dividend policy in Indonesia. The purposive sampling method was used to collect data from corporates listed on the IDX from 2014 to 2020 and analyzed using static and dynamic panel data approaches. The fixed-effect models (FEM) were selected for the static panel data regression. Meanwhile, the first difference-generalized method of moments (FD-GMM) and system-generalized method of moments (SYS-GMM) were used for determine the robustness of the estimated dynamic panel data. The results showed that the crisis due to the pandemic led to higher dividend distribution on SYS-GMM. Furthermore, companies maintained the dividend level as a positive signal for investors which lifted the sluggish trade condition in the capital market. Profitability and previous year dividends positively affect dividend policy robustly. Furthermore, the results showed that age affects dividend policy on FD-GMM. Financial leverage has a robust effect, and firm size has an effect on FD-GMM in different directions, while investment opportunity does not affect dividend policy. Statistically, the FEM selected that violates the best linear unbiased estimation was proven to form parameters that were not much different from the estimates produced by the dynamic model, both from the coefficient of influence direction and significance, and the omitted variable bias occurs as evidenced in the robust test with dynamic model was solved. This research is also used as a reference for considering investors’ investment decisions in the new normal condition. Therefore, dividend policy can be considered as a positive signal to investors with the ability to stock trading activities in the capital market.

This study aims to empirically examine the effect of leverage, profitability, liquidity, the CGPI index in moderating, and the CGPI index in moderating dividend policy. This study uses quantitative methods with sample criteria are companies that do not consistently follow the CGPI ranking and companies that do not consistently distribute dividends. The object of research is a company registered in CGPI with data sources obtained at IDX and IICG. The results of this study, firstly, the effect of leverage on dividend policy has a significant positive effect, the high debt of the company causes the holding of the company's dividends. Second, the effect of profitability on dividend policy does not have a significant effect, because profitability is used for business expansion. Third, the effect of liquidity on dividend policy has an insignificant effect, because liquidity is used to pay off term debt with a period of less than one year. Fourth, the CGPI index as a moderating variable, the effect of leverage on dividend policy, cannot be moderated by the CGPI index, because good or bad reputation is not a guarantee if the company will give dividends to investors, because the company's main priority is paying off debt. Fifth, the CGPI index as a moderating variable, the influence of profitability on dividend policy, cannot be moderated by the CGPI index, because it is not always bad news for investors even if the company has a good reputation. Sixth, the CGPI index as a moderating variable, the influence of liquidity on dividend policy, cannot be moderated by the CGPI index, because high liquidity is not able to guarantee the amount of dividends distributed is getting bigger even if the company has a good reputation.

Purpose Ownership structure deals with internal corporate governance mechanism, which plays important role in minimizing conflict of interests between shareholders and management Ownership structure is an important mechanism that influences the value of firm, financing and dividend decisions. This paper aims to examine the impact of the ownership structures, i.e. managerial ownership, institutional ownership on financing and dividend policy. Design/methodology/approach The authors use panel data of manufacturing firms from both developed and developing countries, and the generalized method of moments (GMM) is applied to analyze the results. The authors collect the data from DataStream for the period of 2010 to 2019. Findings The authors find that managerial ownership and ownership concentration have significant and positive effects on debt financing, but they have significant and negative effects on dividend policy. Institutional ownership shows a positive impact on financing decisions and dividend policy for sample firms. Originality/value This study fills the gap by proving the policy implications for both firms and investors, as managers prefer debt financing, but at the same time try to ignore dividend payment. Therefore, investors may not invest in firms with a higher proportion of managerial ownership and may choose to invest more in institutional ownership, which lowers the agency cost.

When it comes to determining a dividend policy that would maximize shareholder value, focusing merely on how much of the firm’s profit is necessary for dividend distribution and reinvestment is insufficient. It is critical to analyze the impact of their dividend choice on the stock price. The purpose of this study is to scrutinize the impact of dividend policy on stock price volatility. The report investigated the relationship between the dividend policy and stock price volatility taking 8 articles between 2010 to 2020. Likewise, following a systematic literature review method, the study critically analyzed the selected articles based on their strengths and weaknesses. The findings suggest that, in most of the cases demonstrated by authors, dividend policy has a significant negative relationship with the stock price volatility. The stock’s price volatility often decreases after the declaration of dividend payout ratio and dividend yield. Based on the results of this study, it can be implied that, managers of manufacturing companies and banks, those listed in the stock exchange, may be able to reduce the price volatility of their stock by increasing dividend payout and dividend yield. Since the study is limited to 4 databases, further studies could include some more articles from top-rated databases that signify dividend policy in diverse sectors to derive even more accurate results.
