Effects of enriching soymilk with pawpaw puree at different ratios (10 – 40%) were evaluated for physicochemical properties, vitamin A and C, mineral contents, and sensory attributes. The results showed increase in total soluble solids (5.5 – 8.5 oBrix), total titratable acidity (0.53 – 0.87 g/kg) and viscosity (19.9 – 26.7 cp), but decreased in pH (7.4 – 6.8). Vitamin A and C contents of the soy-pawpaw beverage increased from 12.4– 20.4 μg/100 ml and 10.9 – 25.8 mg/100 ml, respectively. All the macromineral contents of the enriched soymilk beverages increased significantly except for sodium.Enrichment of soymilk with pawpaw puree improved the sensory attributes of the drink in terms of flavour, taste, mouthfeel and overall acceptance, especially at high supplementation level (40%). Soymilk with pawpaw puree resulted in products with better vitamin A and C and macro-mineral contents than plain soymilk drink, thus, the soy-pawpaw beverage will complement consumers micro and macro-nutrient intake. Sixteen West African Dwarf Goats (8 bucks and 8 does) were balanced for age, sex and weight (average of 5.79±0.60 kg), to evaluate the effect of Tephrosia bracteolata (Tb) on macro mineral utilization. To examine the effect of Tephrosia bracteolata (Tb), different levels of Tb were used (Tb20, Tb40, Tb60 and Tb80). Ca absorbed (gm) ranged from 0.64 (Tb20) to 1.57 (Tb80) and Ca retention was from 0.62 (Tb20) to 1.56 (Tb80) which was partially linear. In both absorption and retention of Ca, Tb20 and Tb80 found the lowest (P<0.05) and the highest (P<0.05) value respectively. Like Ca, P also followed the same trend in case of retention and absorption as well. Concerning Mg, the lowest (0.41, 0.40) and the highest (0.67, 0.65) absorbed and retained value (g/day) was observed in Tb 20 and Tb 80 respectively. Tb80 showed significantly higher Na absorption than Tb20. In case of Na retention, Tb80 showed the highest (P<0.05) retention than other groups. In K absorption (g/day), increasing trends (P<0.05) were observed from Tb20 (0.44) to Tb80 (1.25). In case of retention, Tb80 found the highest (P<0.05) K retention than other groups.  These positive balances of minerals result linearly appreciating with the increase of T. bracteolata in the diets which might be due to leguminous properties in T. bracteolata. T. bracteolata can be used as a roughage source for goats without any remarkable adverse or, side or ill effects which affect the well-being of animals feeding. Bang. J. Anim. The influence of â -mannanase supplementation and feed presentation of palm kernel cake (PKC) based diets were assessed on grower rabbits. Twenty crossbred grower rabbits (757.5 ± 65g) of mixed sex aged between eight to ten weeks old were used during the trial in 2 X 2 factorial design conducted in a completely randomized experimental design giving four treatment interactions with five replicates of one rabbit per replicate. The treatments were; T1- diet in mash form without enzyme; T2- diet in pellet form without enzyme; T3- diet in mash form with â-mannanase (0.5g/kg) and T4- diet in pellet form with mannanase (0.5g/kg). The trial lasted for six weeks. The animals were weighed individually at the beginning of the study and weekly thereafter. At the end of the study period the feacal samples were collected and animals were slaughtered and measurements taken from the carcasses. The carcass yield showed no interaction, though full GIT weights (g) were significantly influenced (T1-23.04, T2-17.67, T3-19.99 and T4- 18.74. Enzyme inclusion and feed form elicited significant effects on carcass characteristics, with varying improvements observed. Enzyme inclusion on the mash diet gave lower organ weights compared to other diets. Feed form and enzyme inclusion influenced lengths of the segments of the GIT, with rabbit on Diet 3 having the longest length. Pelleting influenced ileum lengths positively. Rabbits fed pelleted or mash diets whether supplemented or non-supplemented with â-mannanase digested dry matter, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium in the same level. In conclusion, supplementation of diets with â-mannanase and pelleting of diets improved phosphorus digestibility in palm kernel cake based diets. In addition, rabbits feed mash and pelleted rations with addition of â-mannanase had improved loins as opposed to those fed mash and non-supplemented rabbits while other carcass and visceral organ characteristics were not significantly affected.

Pelargonium quercetorum Agnew is an edible wild species of Pelargonium genus which has a lot of concern in term of ethnobotanical knowledge, nutrition value and phytochemical analysis. Traditionally, it was providing local and rural people medicines and food security. Nowadays, wild edible plants (WEPs) become a central action to preserve the culture that belongs to the natural heritage. Thus, the aim of this research is to investigate ethnobotanical knowledge related to the traditions, phytochemical and nutritional value of P. quercetorum. Semi questionnaire has been used in Deralok town for ethnobotanical knowledge determination. The findings showed the main threats were overgrazing and overharvesting of this WEPs; a quantity of (10kg) took per year as a food and medicines during spring season. The plant was in a high abundance but required bio-conservation alongside it can be taken together with medication with the very rare side effect on the people. Furthermore, the analysis part has been done in the laboratories of college of agricultural engineering science, University of Duhok, Kurdistan region of Iraq. The findings of this research shown interestingly the highest level contents of (fat=3.68g / 100g, carbohydrate=46.78g /100g, dry matter moisture content=10.93g / 100g and fibers=20.56g / 100g), macro mineral (Ca=4512.9mg / 100g and Mg=229.69mg / 100 g), micro minerals (Zn=4.398mg / 100 g, Mn=3.926mg / 100 g and Cu=1.074mg / 100g) were seen in leaves part. But, the highest content of (Energy value 185.44g/100g, Protein 23.38g/100g and Ash 7.63g / 100g), macro mineral (P=928.5mg / 100g, S=4.036mg / 100g, K=1147.9mg/100g and Na= 118.54mg / 100g), micro minerals (Fe=23.779mg / 100g) were seen in root part. Hence, the study evidence shown that this geranium species can enhance nutrition value and food security as well as natural remedies for the local people

AbstractTesting blood and milk parameters as well as analysing the relationships among these markers is very useful for monitoring the internal homeostasis and health in high-yielding dairy cows during various production periods. The aim of the study was to assess the correlations (relationships) among macro-minerals, such as calcium (Ca), inorganic phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), other selected bone profile markers, such as total protein (TP), albumin, activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) measured in serum and selected milk components such as number of somatic cells (SCC), colony-forming units (CFU), milk fat (MF), milk protein (MP), milk lactose (ML), dry matter (DM), non-fat dry matter (FDM) and milk production in late-lactation cows. Both blood and milk samples were collected from 11 clinically healthy milking cows during the late-lactation period. The cows were examined once a day for 3 consecutive days resulting in 33 sets of blood and milk samples for laboratory and statistical analysis. Significant correlations were observed between: Mg and MP, Mg and FDM, ALP and SCC, TP and SCC, TP and MP, TP and FDM, albumin and MP, albumin and FDM, P and Mg, Mg and albumin, and between TP and albumin. When monitoring macro-mineral homeostasis and mammary gland health, especially in intensively fed high-yielding dairy cows correlations between these markers should be considered. The revealed correlations can allow for deeper comparative laboratory diagnostics of homeostasis and can be especially useful for laboratory monitoring of the potential risk of subclinical macro-mineral deficiency in high-yielding dairy cows.
