The skeletal, muscular and nervous systems in human body works together to enable specific movement or posture. Abnormalities in any of these systems may cause this functionality to degrade. Some examples of such diseases are spinal muscular atrophy and celebral palsy. Patients who suffer from these diseases may require assistive devices designed specifically to their anatomy for supporting their posture and mobility. Bioteknik Design in Bandung, is a small local company focusing in the development of assistive device for helping such patients. A collaboration between SGU and Bioteknik was made to help Bioteknik in designing some of their supportive devices. A student internship was assigned in Bioteknik Design to conduct various tasks related to developing assistive devices based on the need of the patient. These tasks include patient anatomy measurement, design and production of the assistive devices suitable for the patient. These tasks are directed towards giving the patient the mobility and the posture needed, so that the opportunity for the patient to move, explore, and connect to their surroundings could be improved. In this project, several assistive devices, e.g. electrical wheelchair (Go-Roll), specific wheel chair with footrest, and feet-controlled wheelchair, have been measured, design and implemented at various stages.

The main objective of this study is to develop a functional and responsive entrepreneurial internship model for the Philippine Hospitality Management Education program. Mixed methods research design was employed using a combination of the following: a survey that contained an assessment of compliance to a checklist from the Philippines’ Commission on Higher Education [CHED] Student Internship Program in the Philippines [SIPP] Requirements, a survey questionnaire containing proposed requirements for the quantitative portion of the study, and a semi-structured interview with key informants was utilized for the qualitative side. The study showed that there were no significant differences in the level of compliance to CHED’s SIPP between autonomous and non-autonomous HEIs. Moreover, the elements of an entrepreneurial internship program namely entrepreneurial objectives, internship trainer/facilitator, pre-entrepreneurial internship stage, entrepreneurial internship stage, and post-entrepreneurial internship stage were perceived to be important but non-existent in most hospitality management internship programs.

Abstract Ongoing efforts to support Age Friendly University (AFU) principles must be campus-wide and include commitment from upper administration, faculty, staff, and students. This presentation will describe the leveraging of a new community-based collective partnership to develop a student internship model at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) that could be used across campus to create a deeper investment in the AFU initiative. We will discuss the valuable collaboration with the Connecticut Healthy Living Collective, an emerging hub of state, regional and local agencies and organizations dedicated to healthy aging in communities throughout our state. The presenters will describe the process of establishing the Matter of Balance internship in psychological science with the support of our dean, knowing that it would eventually serve the broader AFU mission. We will highlight the value this intentional effort offers at multiple levels and how it might be replicated on other AFU campuses.
