Purpose This paper aims to present an empirical test to analyze a structural process model based on constructs of organizational innovativeness types considering sustainability aspects. It explores interdependency among constructs of organizational innovativeness identified as product, process, behavioral, market, strategic and risk innovativeness. It integrates a dynamic capability perspective to strengthen the existing literature. Design/methodology/approach Sample for data analysis covers 389 managers of firms demonstrating some traits of sustainability orientation and operating in a developing economy like India. Structural equation modeling is applied to test the causal model. Findings Study reveals that risk innovativeness along with strategic innovativeness leads to behavioral innovativeness which further causes product innovativeness and business process innovativeness. Business process innovativeness supports product innovativeness leading to market innovativeness of a firm. Characteristics of organizational innovativeness linked with the risk-taking ability of top management can be a critical differentiating factor between conventional and sustainability-oriented firms. Research limitations/implications The factor of risk innovativeness was applied as per the existing measurement scale and has a scope for further exploration. It also offers an opportunity to reassess organizational innovativeness processes considering sustainability aspects. Practical implications The study may help organizations to develop a systemic approach to evolve and develop business processes linked to organizational innovativeness considering sustainability challenges and uncertain market conditions. Social implications Development of organizational innovativeness considering sustainability aspects may lead to innovative and disruptive products/services leading to mitigate climate change issues, thus helping global societies in long run. Originality/value The study offers common ground linked to the bodies of research related to dynamic capabilities, micro-foundations of dynamic capabilities, innovative capability and sustainability.

Currently, researchers tend to suggest a socially based approach to address the challenge of innovation rather than an economic approach which often fails to address the challenge. This study examines the relationship between emotional dynamics as an independent variable, organizational innovativeness as the dependent variable, and dialogue as a mediator in Indonesian private television broadcasting institutions. Data is collected from 132 respondents who are creative workers at Indonesian private tv stations. Prior to hypotheses testing, this study conducted a factor analysis to check the construct validity of all variables under study. This study used multiple regression analysis to examine direct relationships and two-step hierarchical regression to examine mediating effect. The results show that emotional dynamics have a significant effect on organizational innovativeness and dialogue. The results also show that dialogue partially mediates the relationship between emotional dynamics and organizational innovativeness. This study found that organizational innovativeness can be achieved by those who apply: an open culture, a climate of discussion about new ideas, and a climate of mutual respect. The study also reveals that dialogue is a very important tool that mediates the relationship between open culture and organizational innovativeness. This study proposes that organizational age and the influence of national culture need to be considered for further research on social-based innovation. Keywords: emotional dynamics, dialogue, organizational innovativeness, Indonesian private tv stations

PurposeThe purpose of the research was to examine the effect of strategic orientation on organizational innovativeness of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Moreover, in order to highlight the constructive role of strategic orientation, the study also observes the intervening role of strategic alignment and moderating role of strategic flexibility.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 209 owner/managers of SMEs through self-administered questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, correlation and hierarchical regression were used for testing the study hypotheses.FindingsResults revealed that strategic orientation is positively related to SMEs innovativeness. Strategic alignment mediates between the strategic orientation and innovativeness link. Furthermore, the findings also established that the association between strategic orientation and strategic alignment is stronger when SMEs are strategically flexible.Originality/valueOrganizational innovativeness is of vital importance for SMEs strength, especially in the context of developing economies. Although researchers have acknowledged several antecedents of SMEs innovativeness, however, it is still unclear how strategic orientation influences organizational innovativeness. Moreover, the study focuses on another important element of strategic alignment through the integration of goals and strategies to achieve innovativeness.

The COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented need for innovations in churches around the world. Organizational innovativeness, a precursor of successful innovations in organizational contexts, is rarely studied in churches. This study of American church attenders (N = 244) found that perceived innovativeness of churches (conceived of as the elements of a church’s culture which promote innovation, specifically, creativity, organizational openness, future orientation, risk-taking, and proactiveness) was a very strong predictor of church commitment (conceived of as intentions to stay in the church, r = .60, p < .001). Of the moderators examined in this study (membership tenure, age of participant, church size, and gender), only gender moderated this relationship; the relationship between perceived innovativeness and church commitment was stronger for females than for males. This suggests that innovations that facilitated relationship development and relationship maintenance had the greatest impact on church commitment during the pandemic.

PurposeBeing innovative is important for non-profit sport organizations in order to meet the ever-changing and increasing societal needs. Understanding why and to what extent organizational innovativeness differs between non-profit sport organizations is, therefore, important to assess and increase their chances of survival. The purpose of this study is to compare the structural characteristics and attitudes of innovation attributes between three groups of sport federations (SFs).Design/methodology/approachAn online self-assessment survey was sent to all recognized regional Belgian SFs (N = 156). Simultaneously, an observational desk research (i.e. media analysis) was carried out. Results from both data collection methods were combined to develop a composite organizational innovativeness-index, based on which the federations were then clustered in three distinct adopter groups.FindingsComparative statistics show that structural background characteristics generally are poor indicators for adopter categorization. In contrast, the attitudes about compatibility (i.e. the consistency of innovations with existing values) and complexity (i.e. the extent to which innovations are difficult to apprehend) seem the most important distinctive determinants for the different groups of SFs.Originality/valueThe study's contribution is twofold. First, it offers a methodological contribution with the development of an index, which enables the categorization of non-profit sport organizations according to their organizational innovativeness; thus, it provides a critical counter-argument to the importance of organizational structural background characteristics from previous studies. Second, the study's results may support non-profit sport organizations in improving their innovativeness, for instance by improving the perception of compatibility with innovation or by guiding policymakers in creating a more supportive environment for these organizations to do so.

This study aims to examines the direct relationship between government support, organizational structure, organizational culture and organizational innovativeness. The study also examines the mediating role of organizational structure and culture on the relationship between government support and organizational innovativeness among the Malaysian housing developers. This research used an experimental research design, quantitative research method and stratified simple random sampling to conduct a field study using questionnaire distributed to 504 public-listed housing developers in the eleven states of peninsular Malaysia. A total of 183 valid questionnaires were return, yielding 36.3 response rate. PLS-SEM Structural equation modelling Version 3 was used to test the hypothesis on the direct and mediating relationships among the variables. Keywords: Organizational culture, Government support, organizational Structure, Innovativeness
