AbstractThis paper explores the intersection between affect, emotion, social imaginaries, and institutions through the lens of epistemic power in the academy. It argues that attending to this intersection is critical for a fuller understanding of how affective and emotional dynamics can assist to entrench, but also disrupt, asymmetries of epistemic privilege that cut across lines of race, sex, and other markers of social difference. As part of this discussion the paper reflects on the possibility of intervening in dominant social imaginaries that become sedimented in the routine operations of the modern university, and which produce affective ecologies that sustain epistemic exclusions within academic institutions.

Currently, researchers tend to suggest a socially based approach to address the challenge of innovation rather than an economic approach which often fails to address the challenge. This study examines the relationship between emotional dynamics as an independent variable, organizational innovativeness as the dependent variable, and dialogue as a mediator in Indonesian private television broadcasting institutions. Data is collected from 132 respondents who are creative workers at Indonesian private tv stations. Prior to hypotheses testing, this study conducted a factor analysis to check the construct validity of all variables under study. This study used multiple regression analysis to examine direct relationships and two-step hierarchical regression to examine mediating effect. The results show that emotional dynamics have a significant effect on organizational innovativeness and dialogue. The results also show that dialogue partially mediates the relationship between emotional dynamics and organizational innovativeness. This study found that organizational innovativeness can be achieved by those who apply: an open culture, a climate of discussion about new ideas, and a climate of mutual respect. The study also reveals that dialogue is a very important tool that mediates the relationship between open culture and organizational innovativeness. This study proposes that organizational age and the influence of national culture need to be considered for further research on social-based innovation. Keywords: emotional dynamics, dialogue, organizational innovativeness, Indonesian private tv stations

From conveying intimacy (“I like you”) to irritation (“stop messaging me!”) and dissatisfaction (“I don’t think we’ll work out”), language use plays a fundamental yet often overlooked role in the initiation of relationships. In online dating, daters exchange messages to determine how interested they are in a partner and whether they would like to go on a first date with them. In two studies, we examined whether linguistic features present in online dating messages can predict whether a first date took place. In Study 1, we identified five interpersonal processes related to first date outcomes: investment, interdependence, emotional dynamics, decision-making, and coordination. In Study 2, we tested our hypotheses generated from Study 1 on a new dataset. Our results suggest that certain linguistic features within online dating messages can be used to predict above chance the likelihood of going on a first date.

Abstract Evidence indicates that daily emotional dynamics are associated with mental and physical health. However, these processes have not been examined among custodial grandmothers taking care of adolescent grandchildren. This daily diary study examined correlations between grandmothers and adolescents’ mean levels and variability in negative (NA) and positive affect (PA). Custodial dyads (M = 214) across the nation completed two weeks of daily surveys. For both grandmothers and adolescents, their own PA means were negatively correlated with NA means, PA variability, and NA variability; NA means were positively correlated with variability in PA and NA (ps <.01). Across dyads, grandmothers’ PA means were positively correlated with adolescents’ PA means and negatively correlated with adolescents’ NA means, PA variability and NA variability. Grandmothers’ NA means were positively correlated with adolescents’ variability in PA and NA (ps <.01). Our findings demonstrate how daily emotional dynamics are correlated within and between family members.

This study aims to examine the flow of emotional dynamics in adolescents who have mothers with authoritarian parenting. This is qualitative research. Participants consisted of 3 teenagers, 2 females and 1 male who had a mother with authoritarian parenting. Data were collected by providing authoritarian parenting screening which is then followed by a semistructured interview. The interviews were done using online communication media, such as Whatsapp. The data triangulation techniques were used as the credibility in this study. From the results of the research, it can be concluded that the triggers of emotional dynamics were due to the authoritarian parenting of their mothers, such as the existence of restrictions, punishment and demands. The emotional dynamics experienced by the three participants were their unstable feeling, marked by feelings of anger, fear, boredom, and sadness when they disagreed with their mothers. The outlet of each participant is different. In the process of quelling emotions, each participant prefers to cover up the story or write and end up asleep. Each participant will calm down so that they are not deep far into negative emotions.
