This chapter discussed the potential usefulness of robot-assisted therapy for motor recovery after a stroke. An overview of the available literature was performed providing up-to-date information about the use of robot-assistive technology in rehabilitation practice. The chapter discussed the rationale for the use and the different machines in terms of basic engineering principles and the related rehabilitation possibilities. Finally, clinical and rehabilitative implications of the findings were critically discussed.

(1) Background: Based on its antiviral activity, anti-inflammatory properties, and functional inhibition effects on the acid sphingomyelinase/ceramide system (FIASMA), we sought to examine the potential usefulness of the H1 antihistamine hydroxyzine in patients hospitalized for COVID-19. (2) Methods: In a multicenter observational study, we included 15,103 adults hospitalized for COVID-19, of which 164 (1.1%) received hydroxyzine within the first 48 h of hospitalization, administered orally at a median daily dose of 25.0 mg (SD = 29.5). We compared mortality rates between patients who received hydroxyzine at hospital admission and those who did not, using a multivariable logistic regression model adjusting for patients’ characteristics, medical conditions, and use of other medications. (3) Results: This analysis showed a significant association between hydroxyzine use and reduced mortality (AOR, 0.51; 95%CI, 0.29–0.88, p = 0.016). This association was similar in multiple sensitivity analyses. (4) Conclusions: In this retrospective observational multicenter study, the use of the FIASMA hydroxyzine was associated with reduced mortality in patients hospitalized for COVID-19. Double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trials of hydroxyzine for COVID-19 are needed to confirm these results, as are studies to examine the potential usefulness of this medication for outpatients and as post-exposure prophylaxis for individuals at high risk for severe COVID-19.

This article discusses Cezary Leżeński’s two fantasy-historical novels for children and teenagers:Bartek, Tatarzy i motorynka (1988) and Bartek, Zuzanna i Kopernik (1999). Their plots arecentred on the theme of time travel. The author draws attention to the educational and entertainmentvalue of both books. He writes about their potential usefulness, examining it from the point of viewof the regional education in Warmia and Mazury as well as that in Toruń. He also focuses on thereadership of the two novels by C. Leżeński.

This chapter discusses the use of theory in the study of Greek and Roman sport. It begins with a brief review of the reasons for the relative paucity of theory in the relevant scholarship, then goes on to examine five different kinds of theory that have been productively applied to the study of sport: functionalism, conflict theory, the ‘discipline’ theory of Michel Foucault, Pierre Bourdieu’s work on corporeal discipline and on the relationship between sport and social inequality, and ritual theory. This is by no means a comprehensive survey of theories that have been used in the study of sport—a task that could occupy a volume of its own. The five theories discussed here were chosen because they have strong potential usefulness in the study of Greek and Roman sport.

This commentary addresses a keynote article by Schwartz and Sprouse, which examines the advantages of wholesale transfer approaches for third (L3) language acquisition research. We acknowledge the value of wholesale transfer as a hypothesis that makes strong and clear predictions about the properties of the early L3 grammar. But we raise two concerns about its empirical support. These concerns relate to the interpretation of null effects and to underlying assumptions about the relationship between linguistic behavior and grammatical knowledge, which impact the potential usefulness of differentiating between the concepts of “transfer” and “crosslinguistic influence”.

This article responds to Crosscurrent articles (Treré et al., 2020) published in this journal by positing the potential usefulness of Disconnection for Protection (D4P) for calming unrest and managing volatile times. We first use a vignette from Ambon, Indonesia, to illuminate the need for D4P to throttle the spread of mis/disinformation during a communal violence and then discuss the existing repertoire of disconnections. Building on this, we propose temporal/spatial context, information flow, externality, and motivation as constitutive elements of D4P. We elaborate on their terms and conditions and suggest research directions at the end.
