Business competency emerges in flexibility and reliability of services that an enterprise provides. To reach that, executing business processes on a context-aware business process management suite which is equipped with monitoring, modeling and adaptation mechanisms and smart enough to react properly using adaptation strategies at runtime, are a major requisite. In this paper, a context-aware architecture is described to bring adaptation to common business process execution software. The architecture comes with the how-to-apply methodology and is established based on process standards like business process modeling notation (BPMN), business process execution language (BPEL), etc. It follows MAPE-K adaptation cycle in which the knowledge, specifically contextual information and their related semantic rules — as the input of adaptation unit — is modeled in our innovative context ontology, which is also extensible for domain-specific purposes. Furthermore, to support separation of concerns, we took apart event-driven adaptation requirements from process instances; these requirements are triggered based on ontology reasoning. Also, the architecture supports fuzzy-based planning and extensible adaptation realization mechanisms to face new or changing situations adequately. We characterized our work in comparison with related studies based on five key adaptation metrics and also evaluated it using an online learning management system case study.

AbstractThis paper proposes a general approach for using conversational interfaces such as chatbots to offer adaptive learning of business processes in an environment involving different actors. Adaptivity concerns both the content being proposed, the sequence of learning items, and the way the conversation is conducted. The original approach allows the development of sustainable chatbots and empowers various non-technical actors (authors, teachers, publishers, and learners) to control the chatbot features directly. The aCHAT-WF framework (adaptive CHATbot for WorkFlows), proposed in this paper for managing conversational interfaces, conceptually represents all the aspects related to a conversation about business processes, with different facets for the user, the conversation flow, and the conversation contents, combining them to obtain a flexible interaction with the user. The paper focuses on the different preparation phases for instructional material based on Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) models, separating the different roles involved in the construction of a chatbot for teaching business processes and with the possibility of defining different styles for the interaction with the users. The proposed method is configuration-driven, to facilitate the separation of the different aspects of the control of the interaction and the delivery of contents.

The business process of the J20 production department is currently experiencing obstacles in terms of information delivery, production report, maintenance report, and problem information that causes decision making is often irrelevant. This is due to the use of paper media with a long bureaucratic flow so that the cycle time becomes inefficient. This study used business process reengineering, modeling business process in business process modeling notation (BPMN), and supporting research problem analysis used fishbone diagram. The result showed changes in a process flow, job desk, unit elimination, and proposed design of information systems in the form of application software as a solution to the problems studied, so that it is expected to obtain process time efficiency of 65.1% and cycle time of 99.2% of the previous total time.

The rapid growth of container movements deriving from the advent of globalization has caused a relevant pressure on ports. In this context, the port efficiency performances requested by the market have been met by an increased adoption of railway transport. Despite its environmental and economic sustainability, this intermodal transport solution is characterized by a high degree of complexity given by the execution of different activities and the involvement of several stakeholders. As such, the need of deeply analyzing logistics business processes has led to the embracement of modeling techniques, which allow practitioners to identify possible criticalities along the chain. In this regard, the selection of the appropriate modeling method and notation definitely influences the results of the process examination. In the present paper, the train departure process in the Port of Trieste, Italy, has been investigated in terms of information flows: to that end, the Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) standard has been used. On one hand, this task has enabled to clarify the documentary procedure occurring in diverse operational scenarios and, on the other hand, it has allowed also to recognize the process bottlenecks which hinder an increase in the railway traffic volume. Furthermore, a quantitative analysis concerning the terminal and gateway capacity, before and after the implementation of a technological intervention, has demonstrated the possible growth of train flows by modifying the process only at the organizational level. These accomplishments have proved to port managers the usefulness of applying a theoretical graphical representation to a practical transport process.

Business process modeling attracts great importance in enterprises due to the need for a graphically simplified and less verbal way to manage their operations. Nevertheless, the existence of various process modeling standards across the different departments of the same enterprise, such as Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) diagrams, classic flowcharts, Gantt charts and Petri nets, urges their notation alignment. After the business process model nota-tion alignment, complex constraints and relationships among the enterprise's department processes can be automated and simplified. In the light of the digital transformation of today's enterprises, the main objective of this paper is the proposal of a straightforward and simplified business educational equivalence table so that a direct conversion among BPMN diagrams, flowcharts, Gantt Charts and Petri Nets can be locally fulfilled by non-specialized personnel in each enterprise's department. The methodology of this paper can be generalized in every enterprise where the aforementioned process modeling standards across its different departments coexist.

Abstract— In an organizational environment, there are various business process models with the same procedures. If an organization builds a system with the same procedure repeatedly, it will undoubtedly incur a lot of effort and money. Therefore, it is necessary to extract common fragments to save effort. This research uses four scenarios of business process models: sequence, branching, nested branching, and looping. This study uses Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) notation so that the process model consists of activities, connectors, and gateways. Structural similarity is measured using the Jaccard similarity formula by comparing the process model. The similarity of behavior is measured using the Transition Adjacency Relations (TARs) method to obtain common fragments. The results show that the sequence process model will produce a common fragment that tends to be sequential too. The branching will produce a common fragment that tends to branch, and nested branching will produce a common fragment that tends to be branched and nested, as well as looping will produce a common fragment contains looping too. The experimental results show that the proposed method can extract common fragments based on the available business process models. Keywords—BPMN; common fragment; behavioral similarity; TARs Abstrak— Dalam lingkungan organisasi, terdapat berbagai model proses bisnis dengan prosedur yang sama. Keywords—BPMN; common fragment; kemiripan perilaku; TARs
