Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has a key feature that the cell-center user (CCU) has prior information about the messages of the cell-edge user(CEU) in the same user-pair. It means that CCU can be used for retransmission when the CEU requests retransmission. As ultra-reliability and low-latency communication (URLLC) requires high-reliability constraints (e.g., 99.999%), using CCU for retransmission can be useful to satisfy the reliability constraint. In this study, to ensure the reliability of CEU, cooperative retransmission (CR) scheme for downlink NOMA systems is proposed. And the CR scheme is evaluated with Block error rate (BLER) considering reliability and with packet loss rate (PLR) in terms of reliability and latency constraints. And the evaluation results showed that the proposed CR scheme can satisfy the target BLER for URLLC low SNR compared to the conventional retransmission scheme, and showed the improved PLR compared to the conventional retransmission scheme in low SNRs.

Purpose Multiple input multiple-output (MIMO) has emerged as one among the many noteworthy technologies in recent wireless applications because of its powerful ability to improve bandwidth efficiency and performance, i.e. through developing its unique spatial multiplexing capability and spatial diversity gain. For carrying out an enhanced communication in next-generation networks, the MIMO and orthogonal frequency division multiple systems were combined that facilitate the spatial multiplexing on resource blocks (RBs) based on time-frequency. This paper aims to propose a novel approach for maximizing the throughput of cell-edge users and cell-center users. Design/methodology/approach In this work, the specified multi-objective function is defined as the single objective function, which is solved by the introduction of a new improved algorithm as well. This optimization problem can be resolved by the fine-tuning of certain parameters such as assigned power for RB, cell-center user, cell-edge user and RB allocation. The fine-tuning of parameters is attained by a new improved Lion algorithm (LA), termed as Lion with new cub generation (LA-NCG) model. Finally, the betterment of the presented approach is validated over the existing models in terms of signal to interference plus noise ratio, throughput and so on. Findings On examining the outputs, the adopted LA-NCG model for 4BS was 66.67%, 66.67% and 20% superior to existing joint processing coordinated multiple point-based dual decomposition method (JC-DDM), fractional programming (FP) and LA models. In addition, the throughput of conventional JC-DDM, FP and LA models lie at a range of 10, 45 and 35, respectively, at the 100th iteration. However, the presented LA-NCG scheme accomplishes a higher throughput of 58. Similarly, the throughput of the adopted scheme observed for 8BS was 59.68%, 44.19% and 9.68% superior to existing JC-DDM, FP and LA models. Thus, the enhancement of the adopted LA-NCG model has been validated effectively from the attained outcomes. Originality/value This paper adopts the latest optimization algorithm called LA-NCG to establish a novel approach for maximizing the throughput of cell-edge users and cell-center users. This is the first that work uses LA-NCG-based optimization that assists in fine-tuning certain parameters such as assigned power for RB, cell-center user, cell-edge user and RB allocation.

This paper studies the cell-edge user’s performance of a secure multiple-input single-output non-orthogonal multiple-access (MISO-NOMA) system under the Rayleigh fading channel in the presence of an eavesdropper. We suppose a worst-case scenario that an eavesdropper has ideal user detection ability. In particular, we suggest an optimization-based beamforming scheme with MISO-NOMA to improve the security and outage probability of a cell-edge user while maintaining the quality of service of the near-user and degrading the performance of the eavesdropper. To this end, power allocation coefficients are adjusted with the help of target data rates of both the users by utilizing a simultaneous wireless information and power transfer with time switching/power splitting protocol, where the near-user is used to forward the information to cell-edge user. The analytical results demonstrate that our beamformer analysis can achieve reduced outage probability of cell-edge user in the presence of the eavesdropper. Moreover, the provided simulation results validate our theoretical analysis and show that our approach improves the overall performance of a two-user cooperative MISO-NOMA system.

Abstract In this paper, we investigate a scenario of D2D-relay communications where one D2D user may help cell-edge user to exchange information for improving its quality of service (QoS). We formulate a resource allocation problem, which aims at maximizing the data rate of the cell-edge user. In particular, we propose an iterative power allocation algorithm and derive the optimal closed-form power allocation expressions by Lagrangian dual method. Simulation results verify the theoretical solution and show that our D2D-relay scheme achieves higher spectrum efficiency than the traditional cellular-relay communication scheme.

In this paper, a multiple-cluster downlink multiple-input single-output (MISO) nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system is considered. In each cluster, there are one central user and one cell-edge user. The central user has a data buffer with finite storage units, which will decode the cell-edge user’s message and store it at the data buffer. To enhance the performance of the cell-edge user, the central user operates as a relay and helps forward the message to the cell-edge user. Our objective is to maximize the long-term average sum rates for the cell-edge users by designing the beamforming vectors and online power control, under the constraints of the data buffer causality, required information rates for central users, and transmit power at the base station and central users. Based on the current buffer state and the channel state information, we propose a low-complexity online Lyapunov optimization algorithm combined with a constrained concave-convex procedure (CCCP) to solve the causal and nonconvex problem. Furthermore, we verify the asymptotic optimality of the proposed online Lyapunov optimization algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme performs better than the greedy algorithm and the orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme.

The interference of a two-cell two-hop multi-input–multi-output (MIMO) heterogeneous network where the cell-center user (CCU) coexists with the cell-edge user (CEU) is complex to characterize and costly to suppress. In downlink, the CEU is assumed to be served by a half-duplex relay with amplify-and-forward mode. To suppress the intra-cell and inter-cell interference, a cross time slot partial interference alignment (TPIA) scheme, which aligns the interference terms generated in different sub-time slots to the same subspace, is proposed in this paper. Furthermore, the feasibility condition of antenna configuration is analyzed. Simulation results indicate that the TPIA scheme outperforms other existing conventional techniques in achievable sum degrees of freedom and sum-rate performance.
