We examine the relation between public concern about immigration and customer complaints against minority financial advisors in the United States. We find that minority advisors are more likely to receive complaints in periods of high public concern about immigration than in other periods, relative to their white colleagues from the same firm, at the same office location, and at the same point in time. This result holds for both complaints with merit and dismissed complaints and is more pronounced in counties where residents likely hold stronger anti-immigration views. We also find that minority advisors are more likely to face regulatory actions or leave their firms after customer allegations in periods of high public concern about immigration than in other periods. Overall, our study provides descriptive evidence of a positive relation between public concern about immigration and customer dissatisfaction with minority advisors. The updated Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe (2017) requires all GO rail station areas to achieve a minimum density of 150 residents and jobs combined per hectare. Intensification is unlikely to occur without intentional policy and partnerships to encourage development. Mid-rise buildings, the typical residential form needed to meet the intensification target, are often challenging to develop in suburban areas. Similarly, employment intensification can be challenging to achieve without incentives for office location. Policy, politics and market viability all impact intensification. Changes are needed at the provincial, regional and local level to encourage development. Regulatory changes like zoning, partnerships between Metrolinx and developers and/or financial incentives, such as reduced development charges, should be explored to encourage intensification. Suburban GO rail station intensification is an opportunity to achieve multiple policy goals, such as the creation of walkable, affordable communities that increase housing choice. An article on transit station intensification in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, used the keywords: transit oriented development, intensification, Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area

Abstract Objectives This study adds to the geography of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) literature by comparing the spatial-temporal patterns of five types of CAM within 19 cities in light of clustering benefits from localization economies. Methods CAM office location points and nearest neighbour, standard distance, local spatial autocorrelation, and Mann–Whitney analyses are utilized to test potential clustering tendencies of CAM types over time. Results It is shown that ‘within’ (chiropractors near chiropractors, for example) and ‘amongst’ (chiropractors proximate to other CAM types) spatial clustering occurs in 2007 and 2017. This implies the persistent influence of localization economies. Conclusions Continued clustering of CAM within urban locations already replete with CAM offices will widen spatial disparities through time. This has implications for policy-makers concerned with dispersing medical resources over space for better accessibility.

Purpose: This work investigated interest in telehealth services for patients with chronic retinal conditions. Methods: A single-center, multi-office study was conducted of patients with chronic retinal conditions who were seen by 1 of 4 physicians during June 2020. Patients whose next appointment was 6 months or later were telephoned. Patients completed a phone interest survey about their interest in a hybrid telehealth evaluation instead of a complete office evaluation with their provider. Results: Of 2136 patients reviewed, 453 met eligibility to participate in the survey. A total of 159 patients (35.1%) participated, of whom 91 (57.2%) indicated an interest in telehealth at their next follow-up visit. Of the 68 (42.8%) patients without a current interest in telehealth, 13 (19.1%) expressed interest in pursuing telehealth in the future. Age ( P = .19), sex ( P = .22), race ( P = .79), office location ( P = .19), number of prior visits ( P = .58), and median household income by patient’s zip code ( P = .14) were not predictors of telehealth interest. Among diagnoses, dry age-related macular degeneration was associated ( P = .04) with increased interest in telehealth. An increased number of ocular diagnoses were also found to predict a decreased ( P = .04) interest in telehealth. multivariable analysis revealed healthcare provider as the only significant predictor for interest in telehealth ( P = .03). Conclusions: Most patients with chronic retinal conditions may be interested in incorporating telehealth into routine care. Considerations should be made to evaluate interest in telehealth to guide patients to clinical experiences that best suit their needs.

Objective Patients consider many factors when deciding how to receive medical care. This study used best-worst scaling (BWS), a technique novel to otolaryngology, to quantitatively examine preferences among patients choosing a laryngologist. Our objective was to quantify in a pilot cohort the relative importance patients place on a variety of attributes when seeking a laryngologist. Study Design BWS survey. Setting Academic voice clinic. Methods New patients were recruited to take a computerized BWS survey developed using attributes derived from patient input, expert opinion, and literature review. Attributes were grouped into 4 categories: physician reputation, physician qualifications, hospital-related factors, and other nonclinical factors. Responses were analyzed using multinomial logit regression to determine importance scores and associations with other variables. Results Eighty-seven of 93 patients recruited participated (93.5% response rate). Physician qualifications were the most important attributes to patients, with specialty laryngology training receiving the highest importance score (20.8; 95% CI, 20.2 to 21.5; P < .0001). Recommendations from referring physicians (15.6; 95% CI, 14.3 to 16.9) and use of cutting-edge technology (11.9; 95% CI, 10.7 to 13.1) were the second and third most important, respectively. Least important were nonclinical factors, including wait time to get an appointment (4.3; 95% CI, 2.8 to 5.8) and convenience of office location (1.5; 95% CI, 0.9 to 2.1). Just over half of patients (51.2%) reported willingness to wait 4 weeks for an appointment with a laryngologist. Older patients were less concerned with convenience-related factors. Conclusion Nonclinical factors were less important to patients than clinical factors, and laryngology-specific training was paramount. Stated preference methodologies can elucidate underlying preferences and help providers make care more patient centered.

A number of snakes and goannas persist in areas frequented by humans, such as the Elizabeth Macarthur Agricultural Institute in New South Wales, Australia. This institute is used as both an office location and an agricultural demonstration site, which inevitably results in snakes and goannas coming close to institute buildings, prompting concerns for human safety. Reports of snakes and goannas within 100m of institute buildings were collected over a three-year period; an analysis of those data identified a seasonal pattern of incursions by three species between September and March. A short verbal survey revealed that more staff had encountered goannas than snakes. Most were cautious to curious when snakes and goannas were reported, whereas only a minority admitted to being fearful when snakes were reported.

PT. PELNI is a company that provides shipping services using sea transportation. One of the services it has is REDPACK, which is a delivery service with priority to maintain package conditions. This service is still relatively new because it is operating in 2019 and evaluation is needed so that efficiency increases by reducing waste. In this study, the method used is Lean Service because the delivery service is in the service sector. The tools used in this research are Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and DEMATEL. VSM is used to analyze the value flow in the service process. VSM results can indicate a process that is not needed. After that, it is continued by identifying process flow waste and determining critical waste in these services. Determination of critical waste is done using DEMATEL. DEMATEL is a method used to analyze the cause-effect relationship of a complex system. The results showed that the main waste factor in logistics services is customer activity reporting incoming cargo. This waste can be repaired by moving the office location into one room with a new warehouse and activity flow.

PurposeThis study investigates the moderating role of employee office location in the relationship between support-related job resources (i.e. organizational support for development, supervisor support) and work engagement among public sector employees.Design/methodology/approachAn online questionnaire was completed by 2,206 digital services branch of public service employees in Canada. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test office location as a moderator of job resources and work engagement.FindingsThe results indicate that office location moderates the relationship between organizational support for development and work engagement, such that this relationship is stronger for head office employees. Conversely, results show office location moderates the relationship between supervisor support and work engagement, such that this relationship is stronger for regional office employees.Research limitations/implicationsThe questionnaire was self-report in nature and from a single department. Future research should consider multiple sources of reporting and additional departments.Practical implicationsThe current study suggests that to increase work engagement, public sector organizations need to offer head office employees more organizational support for development and regional employees more supervisor support.Originality/valueThe literature on public sector work engagement tends to study job resources as having universal effects on work engagement regardless of employees' place of work. This study suggests that certain resources matter more depending on office location.
