The use of drugs that affect the cell cycle represents one of the common strategies for the control of some unrelated pathologies, such as chronic viral HIV infections or cancer. The authors report the case of a patient followed for a hormone receptor-positive (HR+)/HER2 negative (HER2-) advanced breast cancer, treated with hormone therapy and CDK 4/6 inhibitors, and a concomitant HIV infection under antiretroviral treatment. The authors consider the function of the sterile alpha motif and HD domain-containing protein-1 (SAMHD1) enzyme, its implications in the control of viral replication and the correlation between its activity and the mechanism of action of the CDK 4/6 inhibitor palbociclib.

Objectives: to calculate the frequency of malaria and HIV co-infections, to describe the socio-demographic characteristics, to describe the clinical signs and to plan treatment. Methodology: This was a retrospective descriptive study lasting 09 months from August 01, 2019 to April 31, 2020, conducted at CMC Minière (2nd level reference structure in Guinea). We carried out an exhaustive inventory of cases according to the inclusion and non-inclusion criteria. After applying the selection procedure (inclusion and non-inclusion criteria), we obtained a sample of size N = 68 cases. Results: we recorded 68 seropositive malaria patients out of a total of 1232, i.e. a frequency of 5.52%. The epidemiological profile was that of a person in the age group of 30-34 years (26.47%), Unemployed (47.06%), out of school (54.41%) and single (75%). The reasons for consultation are dominated by fever (69.11%) and physical asthenia (50%). Patients were from their homes (92.65%). The type of malaria was severe associated with HIV1 infection (55.88%). The majority of patients had an average parasite density (10,000-50000) or 54.41% and 22.06% had a CD4 count between 200-499 cells / mm3. The antimalarial and antiretroviral treatment consisted respectively of the administration of quinine 65% and AZT + 3TC + EFV or 54.41%. N.B: AZT = Zidovudine; 3TC = Lamivudine; EFV = Efavirenz; d4T = Stavudine Conclusion: Malaria contributes to an increase in the viral load in adults with positive retroviral serology, due to the lymphopenia caused during febrile attacks. This finding suggests an emphasis on malaria in people infected with HIV.

ABSTRACTWe report herein a set of 3’-azido-3’-deoxythymidine (AZT) derivatives based on triazoles and triazolium salts for HIV1 infection. Compounds were tested with □using HIV1 pre-exposure prophylaxis experimental model. All compounds were able to decrease infection and two of them were able to clear almost all the infection, suggesting that these drugs could play an important role in pre-exposure prophylaxis therapies.

A 32-year-old female, was diagnosed in 2004 with a C1 HIV1 infection, using zidovudine/lamivudine 300/150 mg BID and lopinavir/ritonavir 400/100 mg BID, in addition to prophylaxis with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole 800/160 mg QD, but no prophylaxis with macrolide antibiotics. The patient presented with a severe headache and was prescribed two capsules of the anti-migraine drug Ormigrein™, which contained ergotamine tartrate 1 mg, caffeine 100 mg, paracetamol 220 mg, hyoscyamine sulfate 87.5 mcg, and atropine sulfate 12.5 mcg. Afterwards she was prescribed one capsule of Ormigrein every 30 minutes for a total of six capsules a day. The patient took the medication as prescribed but developed a pain in her left ankle three days later, which evolved to the need for amputation.
