Abstract. The article discusses the possibility of obtaining biodegradable films based on polyolefins and beet pulp by the extrusion method. Biodegradable composites of two mixes with 15% and 25% beet pulp content have been obtained. Compounding was carried out on a twin-screw extruder, and then samples of biodegradable films were obtained by cast film extrusion. The influence of the vegetable filler particles’ orientation on the composites mechanical properties has been studied. It has been shown that composites mechanical properties significantly increase in the direction of polymer melt stretching.

Two kinds of organic phosphate nucleating agent (NA-11 and NA-21) were used in PP with different molecular weights through the melt extrusion method. The dispersibility of the nucleating agents in PP, and the effect of the nucleating agents on the molecular weight, rheological behavior and crystallization behavior of PP were investigated. SEM and TEM analysis showed that the average radius of the dispersed particles (nucleating agents) was larger in LPP than that in HPP. The good dispersion of NA-21 also created more nucleation embryos for the adsorption of polypropylene molecules than the agglomerated NA-11. The gel permeation chromatography (GPC) analysis showed that the average molecular weight of HPP and LPP both decreased with the addition of a nucleating agent. The rotational rheometer and capillary rheometer analysis showed that the effect of NA-21 on reducing intermolecular entanglement was more significant, whether in HPP or LPP. The addition of NA-21 had less elastic energy storage and better flow stability, and could be processed at a higher speed. Simultaneously, the relaxation time in the blends with LPP was shorter than that with HPP. It was found that the crystallinity and nucleation efficiency of HPP/nucleating agent blends increased remarkably, while there was a barely perceptible increase in LPP/nucleating agent blends.

In this study, full-scale fire tests and finite element (FE) analyses are conducted to investigate the fire resistance performance of hollow-core slabs (HCSs) manufactured using the extrusion method. The deflection of the HCS specimens and the temperature distribution in the section according to the fire exposure time are measured and analyzed comprehensively, and the test results are compared with the FE analysis results. In addition, parametric analyses are conducted on 21 cases with the HCS depth, span length, hollow ratio in a section, cover thickness of concrete, and load ratio (i.e., the ratio of the external load to the ultimate load) as variables, based on which the fire resistance performance of the HCS according to each variable is investigated. The analysis results show that the load ratio is a key factor governing the fire resistance behavior of HCSs, whereas the effects of the cover thickness of concrete and the hollow ratio in a section are relatively slight within the range of variables examined in this study.

Abstract This paper presents the interaction comparison of poly(vinyl) alcohol (PVA) with hydroxyapatite derived from Spanish Mackerel (SM) and Whitefin Wolf Herring (WWH) bones, in different processing method. PVA filament and solution casting method illustrated higher crystallinity in the FTIR graph as compared to the PVA pellet and filament extrusion method. Besides, minimal interactions between PVA with glycerol and HAp was observed as well. PVA pellet and solution casting method portrait higher interaction as compared to the PVA filament and extrusion method. As for the HAp of SM and WWH, WWH had higher crystallinity and better cell adhesion with a higher Ca/P ratio while SM had relatively better mechanical strength with Ca/P ratio near to stoichiometric value. The loading of HAp (0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20, 30%) does not affect interactions of PVA/HAp composite in FTIR, and thermal properties in TGA. However, it caused an increase in crystallinity at low HAp loading and decreased at higher loading of HAp above 10%. Upon addition of HAp, tensile strength increased and elongation at break decreased. As the loading of HAp increased, both mechanical properties decreased. Scaffold with WWH composite possessed lower tensile strength and higher elongation at break than SM composite. The result of mechanical properties corresponded to the SEM result. ANOVA analysis justified the effect of HAp variations and loading on the mechanical properties of the composite was prominent.

Abstract This paper presents a numerical analysis of a new cold forming process for a hollow part with an external flange. The following techniques were used: forward extrusion, an unconventional method of extrusion with a moving sleeve, and upsetting in a tapered die cavity. The billet (42CrMo4 steel tube) was formed at ambient temperature. The study aimed to investigate the proposed method in terms of forged part accuracy. The following are examined and discussed: material flow, process force parameters in relation to tool strength, energy consumption of individual operations, as well as the distributions of strains, stresses, temperature and Cockcroft-Latham integrals in the produced part. The study has confirmed that hollow forged parts with external flanges of relatively large diameters and heights can be cold formed in several operations using different techniques.

A new cermet material based on titanium carbide with a complex bond consisting of nichrome and nickel, additionally hardened with chromium carbide and a solid solution of chromium in titanium carbide, has been obtained. The influence of the technological parameters of the SHS-extrusion method (the delay time before the application of pressure, the pressing pressure, the speed of the press plunger movement) on the length of the extruded rod is studied, the optimal parameters are found. The microstructure and phase composition of the obtained material was investigated, the physical and mechanical characteristics were measured, and a comparison with analogs was given. It is shown that the microstructure, phase composition, and crystal lattice parameters of the phases do not change depending on the diameter of the extruded rod.

Compact ceramic materials based on the Ti‒B system modified with 5 wt. % of nanosized Si3N4 particles. The results of studies of the structure, phase composition, and physical and mechanical characteristics of the materials obtained are presented. It is shown that the addition of Si3N4 promotes the formation of new phases, in particular, titanium diboride and nitride in the final product. It was found that the introduction of modifying nanosized Si3N4 particles into the initial charge leads to an increase in hardness and microhardness by 15‒20 %, as well as to an increase in crack resistance by 1,5 times in comparison with unmodified samples.
