Abstract Testing the Weak Equivalence Principle (WEP) to a precision of 10-15 requires a quantity of data that give enough confidence on the final result: ideally, the longer the measurement the better the rejection of the statistical noise. The science sessions had a duration of 120 orbits maximum and were regularly repeated and spaced out to accommodate operational constraints but also in order to repeat the experiment in different conditions and to allow time to calibrate the instrument. Several science sessions were performed over the 2.5 year duration of the experiment. This paper aims to describe how the data have been produced on the basis of a mission scenario and a data flow process, driven by a tradeoff between the science objectives and the operational constraints. The mission was led by the Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) which provided the satellite, the launch and the ground operations. The ground segment was distributed between CNES and Office National d’Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales (ONERA). CNES provided the raw data through the Centre d’Expertise de Compensation de Trainee (CECT: Drag-free expertise centre). The science was led by the Observatoire de la Coote d’Azur (OCA) and ONERA was in charge of the data process. The latter also provided the instrument and the Science Mission Centre of MICROSCOPE (CMSM).

As an emerging electrotechnology, induced electric field has attracted extensive attention in the development of innovative heat treatment equipment. In this study, a resistance heating unit based on induced electric field was built for inner heating of aqueous electrolyte solutions as well as liquid foods, such as vinegar. NaCl solutions and liquid foods with different conductivity were used to investigate the thermal effect and temperature rise of samples. Saline gel composed of 3% agar powder and 20% NaCl acted as a coil of conductor for inducing high-level output voltage. The utilization of the saline gel coil significantly improved the power conversion efficiency of the heating unit as well as the heating rate. The results revealed that duty cycle and applied frequency had immediate impact on the efficiency of inner heating. Additionally, the rate of temperature rise was proportional to the conductivity of the sample. The temperature of 200 mL NaCl solution (0.6%) increased from 25 °C to 100 °C in 3 min at 40% duty cycle and 60 kHz of applied frequency, and it was a circulating-flow process. The maximum temperature rise of black vinegar was 39.6 °C in 15 s at 60 kHz and 60% duty cycle, while that of white vinegar was 32.2 °C in 30 s under same conditions, whereas it was a continuous-flow process. This novel heating system has realized the inner heating of liquid samples.

Abstract An inclined flow channel instrument that can be developed to be a structurally simple and easy-to-use rheometer was applied to control the thickness, specifically the viscosity and elasticity, of liquids thickened to support swallowing in nursing-care practice. Aqueous solutions containing salt or acid, which might be used as ingredients in drinks, were thickened with a commercial thickener. The thickener efficacy decreased because of the salt or acid in liquid phase. Analysis of the flows in the instrument by experimentation yielded a dimensionless relation representing changes of the Deborah number in the flow process, as indicated by the relative flow length, considering the shear rate in oral processing. One unique methodology to evaluate the viscoelasticities of thickened liquids during the swallowing process was presented utilizing the measurements such as elapsed time and velocity in the instrument.

Crowd merging is a complex process, and any sudden external or internal disturbance will destroy the stability of the crowd. The occurrence of abnormal behavior will affect the crowd flow process and inevitably affect the stability of the crowd flow system. The position information of the joint points is obtained through the OpenPose algorithm, and the kinematics characteristics of each node are studied. It is judged whether the number of pedestrians in the crowd and the scale of the building scene are greater than the empirical setting value based on engineering statistical data and expert experience. When the number of pedestrians is more than 2,000 and the total area of the passage is more than 2,000 square meters, the appropriate macro-dynamic model is selected. The Aw-Rascle (AR) fluid dynamics model is selected in this study. The joint point information obtained through the OpenPose is combined with the macroscopic fluid dynamics model to construct a macroscopic crowd flow dynamics model based on the pedestrian's abnormal posture.

Different parameters of the circular-arc, trapezoidal and equal cross-section-shaped flow channels were analyzed, and the core volume goodness factor was used for the comparison of the three different types of flow channels. During the experiment, the Reynolds number (Re) on the air side ranged from 1200 to 5100. The results showed that the overall heat transfer performance of the three channels in this paper are circular-arc, trapezoidal and equal cross-section in order from good to bad. The overall heat transfer enhancement performance of the circular-arc flow channel is the best, which is 9–26.2% and 3.6–11.8% higher than that of the equal and trapezoidal cross-section flow channels, respectively. This showed that although the divergent flow channel structure reduces the fluid velocity in the flow process, it weakens the convective heat transfer performance in the flow channel. However, this gradually decreasing cross-sectional area improves the downstream heat transfer area and reduces the pressure drop in the flow process, thus promoting the overall heat transfer performance. With the increase in the circular radius (R), both the j and f factors increase, and the highest overall heat transfer performance is obtained at R = 300 mm. The convective heat transfer coefficient increases with the decrease in the inlet height.

It is of great significance to study the seepage characteristics of heavy oil reservoirs, which are conducive to the efficient development of resources. Boundary layer effect (BLE) exists in the pore-scale flow process of macromolecular fluid media, which is different from the flow law of conventional fluid in the pore, yet the influence of BLE is ignored in the previous pore-scale simulation. Conventional porous media simulations have difficulty analyzing the mass transfer law of small-scale models under the influence of microfractures. Based on the CT scanning data and thin section data of the real core in the target area, the rock skeleton and flow space were extracted according to the maximum ball algorithm, and the pore network model representing the complex structure was constructed. The microscale effect of macromolecules in the flow process in the pores was characterized by modifying the effective flow. The effects of the BLE on the effective connectivity, displacement process, and oil distribution law were analyzed. The seepage characteristics of different wettability conditions and different water cut stages were compared. The results show that BLE reduces the effective flow space and leads to deviations in the relative permeability curve and capillary curve. For fractured porous media, the irregular shape of porous media was characterized by the morphological method, and the mass transfer process was analyzed by the equivalent flux method. The influence of the porous media shape on the macromass transfer process was compared. This study provides a solution to the problem of BLE in pore-scale simulation.

Abstract Vibro-impact processing refers to finishing processing methods, which largely determine the operational part properties. It is shown that the parameter optimization of the vibro-impact processing is a very promising area of improving the part quality and reducing their manufacturing cost. One of the most important technological system elements is the process fluid. As a result of the priory information analysis, factors that determine the parameters of the vibro-impact processing were identified.Because of theoretical studies, the process fluid parameters and flushing mode influence degree on the process parameters and treated part quality indicators was determined. The process fluid is presented as a set of unit volumes that form an elastically deformable matrix. The necessary list of initial data for determining the maximum allowable process fluid amount in the mass load volume has been identified. The dependence for determining the minimum required process fluid volume is presented. A complex parameter that characterizes the change in the load mass volume in one oscillations cycle, together with the working chamber oscillation frequency and the process fluid fluidity, which determine both the fluid flow process nature (turbulent) and the flow rate inside the load mass is proposed. Based on the complex parameter, the load mass flushing speed is determined. It is shown that at this stage, the numerical value of the parameter can only be determined experimentally. Its theoretical definition is a promising area of further research.
