Abstract This paper reports the results from a large telephone survey of 1,000 retiring white-collar workers in Sweden. Shortly before the interview, the participants at age 65 had a choice of receiving a life annuity by default or opting for a fixed-term payout, with a minimum payout length of 5 years. Large monetary amounts were at stake in the payout decision of the survey participants; the average monthly pension payment under the life annuity amounted to US $280. Comparing the survey responses with administrative records on actual payout choices, I find that a majority of retiring white-collar workers fail to recall their payout decision. The recollection rate is much lower among annuitants (those who chose the default option); only 40% of the annuitants accurately recalled their payout decision compared to 77% of those who opted for a fixed-term payout. Beyond payout choice, few individual characteristics predict successful recollection.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of New Rural Pension Scheme (NRPS) on the private transfer behavior of the non-co-resident adult children to their elderly parents in rural China, and hence address the income redistribution effectiveness of public program for the elderly in rural China. Design/methodology/approach Pooled data from two waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study and the combination of regression discontinuity design and difference in difference method are used to perform the analysis. Findings No evidence is found that pension payment from NRPS program does significantly crowd out the economic support from the adult children to their elder parents. The heterogeneous effects at different income percentile indicate that pension payment significantly increases the probability of receiving gross transfers and likelihood of the net transfer being positive for those elderly individuals with low income; in particular, the distinctive “family binding” arrangement may dramatically contribute to increasing the probability of receiving private transfers for the pension recipients. Originality/value The empirical findings would have far-reaching implications for the efficacy of public transfer or re-distributive programs such as NRPS; for the rural elderly, in particular, the unique “family binding” mechanism under the NRPS program may have positive welfare effects on the intended beneficiaries. Furthermore, an understanding of the inter-linkage between informal arrangements of elderly support and social re-distributive program provides further insight into the design of social security systems targeted to the vulnerable group in developing countries.

Abstract In the following the role and contribution of vehicle dynamics simulation to the development of race cars at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen is presented. The application of the developed simulation program for the optimization of the car’s technical data, together with the principle and method of optimization, is also described here.

Abstract Today, the state, its organizations and its citizens have become vulnerable to the complexity of complex electronic information systems in the cyberspace of Hungary, without which state operations and the provision and use of different services become unworkable. In addition to the modern economic system, society is not prepared to operate without lost infrastructure, assets or services, so they must clearly be protected especially because the information used and generated in their operation and the data managed represent significant assets.

International taxation of pensions — a model conceptAlong with the changing demographic structure of many countries, especially developed ones, one of the significant social groups are people who receive benefits from old-age security. One aspect of this phenomenon is the issue of taxation of financial benefits received by pensioners in cross-border situations, in particular when during retirement pensions are paid out of afund located in the territory of a different country from the one in which the beneficiary resides tax residence. The taxpayer’s right to tax such pensions is subject to negotiations between states that intend to conclude adouble tax treaty, in which they will allocate tax power in this matter. These agreements are modeled on model conventions developed by the OECD and the UN. The purpose of this article is to analyze the legal, economic and administrative aspects resulting from modeled in the model conventions ways of allocating tax rights between the source of pension payment and the residential country of such a benefit.

One of the most valuable assets of economic and social life is information. Information is a resource for organizations, the basis for efficient operation, an asset, and often also a product that is sold. Information security is rarely thought of as a problem, yet, actions taken to protect information are everywhere in our lives. There are processes that can be a critical problem in the operation of an organization if the operation of the organization is not controlled properly and the organization is not well-prepared to avert a possible disaster. This study summarizes the background of the theoretical planning of an IT security system and shows an example of its possible implementation through a case study.
