Abstract Background Millions of people pass through U.S. jails annually. Conducting research about these public institutions is critical to understanding on-the-ground policies and practices, especially health care services, affecting millions of people. However, there is no existing database of the number, location, or contact information of jails. We created the National Jails Compendium to address this gap. In this paper, we detail our comprehensive methodology for identifying jail locations and contact information. We then describe the first research project to use the Compendium, a survey assessing jails’ treatment practices for incarcerated pregnant people with opioid use disorder. Results This study sent surveys electronically or in paper form to all 2986 jails in the Compendium, with 1139 surveys returned. We outline the process for using the Compendium, highlighting challenges in reaching contacts through case examples, cataloging responses and non-responses, and defining what counts as a jail. Conclusion We aim to provide tools for future researchers to use the Compendium as well as a pathway for keeping it current. The Compendium provides transparency that aids in understanding jail policies and practices. Such information may help devise interventions to ensure humane, evidence-based treatment of incarcerated people.

Abstract Background Assisted partner notification services (APNS) may increase HIV testing, early diagnosis, and treatment, but they are not formally implemented in Mexico, where the HIV epidemic is concentrated in men who have sex with men (MSM) and transwomen (TW). This study aimed to explore the awareness of and need for HIV partner notification, as well as to outline potential strategies for APNS based on identified barriers and facilitators. Methods We conducted semi-structured interviews to explore partner notification with MSM, TW, and counselors. Afterwards, brainstorm sessions were carried out to produce strategies for implementing APNS. Results Most participants reported experiences with informal partner notification and serostatus disclosure, but not with APNS. Only one counselor indicated assisting notification systematically. The main barriers for notifying or disclosing mentioned by both MSM and TW included fear of (violent) reactions, discrimination and lacking contact information of casual partners. Participants thought it was easier to inform a formal partner, conditional of being well informed about HIV. Given current stigma and lack of awareness, it was suggested that APNS should be preceded by HIV awareness efforts, and be provided by counselors or peers to mitigate potential rejection or violent reactions. Conclusions While APNS are not formally implemented in Mexico, all participants supported the service, indicating that APNS could potentially enhance early HIV diagnosis in Mexico. Strategies to implement such services need to be flexible addressing the individual needs of participants, guaranteeing the safety of more vulnerable participants.

Abstract Objective The content of websites for fellowship programs is an important source of information for residents applying to breast imaging fellowship programs (BIFPs). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the comprehensiveness of online content of BIFPs. Methods A list of BIFPs was obtained from the Society of Breast Imaging website. Each program’s website was evaluated for the presence of 19 training-relevant content variables. Impact of program characteristics on comprehensiveness scores was determined. For statistical analysis, Kruskal–Wallis tests were used to assess differences in comprehensiveness scores based upon region, and two-tailed t-tests were used to compare based upon program size. Results A total of 79 BIFP websites were analyzed. The mean comprehensiveness score of BIFP websites based on meeting the 19 criteria was 44.1% (8.4 ± 2.7/19). Program coordinator contact information (72/79, 91.1%), application requirements (71/79, 89.9%), and faculty information (56/79, 70.9%) appeared on >70% of websites. The majority of fellowships had a dedicated webpage for their program (71/79, 89.9%). Information regarding 12 of the 19 criteria appeared on fewer than 50% of websites. Program region (P = 0.32) and size (P = 0.16) were not associated with any differences in mean comprehensiveness score. Additionally, there was no significant difference in scores associated with filling all available positions for the 2020 match cycle (P = 0.77). Conclusion There is a paucity of information commonly sought out by applicants on the websites of most BIFPs. Both programs and applicants may mutually benefit from increasing comprehensive online content.

The training of future doctors should be continuous and organized at a high level, because medicine is one of the priority spheres of society. With the introduction of quarantine in the context of a pandemic, the question of changing the format of classes has become especially acute, which is associated with the need to exclude massive concentrations of medical students. In our academy, in the first days of quarantine, communication was organized by groups in the Viber and Telegram messengers. In the following days, training was carried out on the use of the Zоm service platform for video conferencing, online meetings and distance learning, and trainings were organized. The department’s website contained the contact information of all teachers, the schedule of classes, the thematic plan of lectures and practical classes, a list of basic and additional literature for students of each course. In the materials for downloading, students had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with multimedia presentations of lectures, teaching aids developed by the staff of the department, methodological recommendations on all topics of practical exercises according to the thematic plan. It should be noted that new educational technologies contribute to the improvement of information competence, allow students to independently master the educational material, but training a doctor in practical skills requires the student’s traditional face-to-face contact with teachers and patients.
