An efficient method for the synthesis of 3-arylidenechroman-4-ones has been developed under solvent free conditions using grinding technique. Grinding of variously substituted chroman-4-ones with aromatic aldehydes in presence of anhydrous barium hydroxide at room temperature give 3-arylidenechroman-4-ones in high yield (75-92%). Products are obtained by just acidification of the reaction mixture in ice cold water. Reaction in solid state, with enhanced rate, high selectivity and manipulative simplicity are the attractive features of this environmentally benign protocol. The chroman-4-one derivatives required for the reaction have been obtained by polyphosphoric acid (PPA) catalysed cyclisation of phenoxypropanoic acids under microwave irradiations.

A library of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones/thiones derivatives were synthesized via Biginelli condensation reaction of β-keto esters, aryl aldehydes and urea/thiourea under solvent-free conditions utilizing nickel nanoparticles under microwave irradiation (CEM Discover). The structures of the all compounds were elucidated with the aid of elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR and Mass spectral data. Nickel nanoparticles can be recovered and reused five times without loss of their efficiency. Short reaction time, high yield of products and simple workup procedure, solvent-free conditions and reusability of the catalyst are the superior features of this protocol.

Microwave-assisted three-component reaction has been established for the synthesis of aryl alkyl ethers. The reaction was carried out under solvent free conditions in the presence of N-methylimidazole and dialkylacetylenedicarboxylate to furnish a novel approach to O-alkylation of phenol derivatives in high yield

A solventless synthesis can reduce environmental contamination and can be more convenient than solvent-based synthesis. A series of Schiff bases were synthesized in high yield > 90% under solvent free conditions with negligible waste. All the synthesized products were characterized on the basis of spectral, elemental analysis and melting points and were compared with the data of the prouducts obtained from classical method

The study is carried out to test the catalytic efficiency of Cu-ZSM-5 zeolite catalyst on the reaction of Aza Michael under solvent-free conditions, at room temperature this reaction is most exploited in organic chemistry, b-amino -esters, ketones, nitriles are useful for the preparation of several natural bioactive products, antibiotics, and chiral auxiliaries, through the use of the porous material catalyst (zeolite Cu-ZSM-5), and the reaction of Aza Michael addition a series of amines on α, β-unsaturated methyl acrylate, we have synthesized new cc or c-heteroatom products, these compounds is an attractive area of researchers in synthetic organic chemistry, and we have developed new synthesis methodologies for the preparation of these products. The reaction was carried out with favourable conditions: ambient temperature, and without solvent, that the products, which are synthesized, gave us a high yield, and excellent chemoselectivity.

Silica-supported magnesium hydrogen sulfate has been used as a recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of some linear and cyclic aromatic acetals under solvent-free conditions. This environmentally friendly method has advantages, such as high yield of products, simple work-up procedure, and avoidance of the organic solvents, which will contribute in serving as a green process greatly.
