With the constant increasing of traffic flow and axle load, the early failure of semi-rigid base asphalt pavement is increasingly serious in China. The bad durability and short service life of pavement have become main obstacles in road construction development. Based on the experience of successful application, the early failure of semi-rigid base asphalt pavement is solved, and the service life of pavement is increased by using of the composite asphalt pavement. To solve the design problem of the composite asphalt pavement , its mechanical properties influence results of are obtained by the factors, such as shear strain, shear stress, compression strain on top of subgrade, etc, by a lot of calculation using Shell pavement design software. These provide theoretical basis for durable asphalt pavement design based on rut-resistance property.

The purpose of this study is to point out the dominant factor of heat and mass distribution in single cell of polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC). The numerical simulation by simple 3D model of PEFC has been investigated to clarify the influence of cell components structure on heat and mass transfer phenomena in PEFC. In addition, the power generation experiment and the measurement of in-plane temperature distribution by thermograph were carried out. From the simulation results, the gas channel pitch of separator was the key factor to unify in-plane distribution of temperature and gas concentration on the reaction surface. The compression of gas diffusion layer (GDL) by cell binding caused wider distribution of mass concentration in GDL. According to the experimental results, the power generation performance was promoted with the decrease in gas channel pitch irrespective of relative humidity of supply gas. In addition, the temperature range in observation area was lower with the decrease in gas channel pitch.

Abstract The water injection system of an FPSO active in the Gulf of Guinea is to increase injection capacity to levels that are threatening from a flow-induced vibration perspective, such that hydrocarbon recovery can be accelerated. A three-tier method based on the internal guidelines of the system operator has been employed to assess the level of FIV threat expected from the increase in flow rate. A high-level screening analysis is followed by a more detailed approach, modified in this case by introducing knowledge obtained from field data gathered during a comprehensive measurement campaign aboard the FPSO. In particular, the data has been used to calibrate the finite element model of the mechanical layout of the pipework and associated supporting by making use of an optimization technique. The PSD of the flow excitation has been calibrated to match the measured response of the system, with descriptions of the turbulent excitation introduced in elbows by means of PSD functions available in the open literature. The PSDs, once calibrated, are further scaled to the future flow-rates so that they can be used as input to the mechanical response analysis. Though the high-level screening analysis delivers the conclusion that flow rates should be limited, the detailed analysis proves that the expected vibrations will be acceptable.

Cellular association of nanoparticles (NPs) and their resultant cytotoxicity are heterogeneous in nature and can be influenced by the variances in NPs’ properties, cell types, and status. However, conventional in vitro assays typically consider the administered NP dose and the averaged cellular responses based on the assumption of a uniform distribution of monodisperse NPs in homogeneous cells, which might be insufficient to describe the complex nature of cell–NP interactions. Here, using flow cytometry, we report observations of the heterogeneity in the cellular association of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in A549 cells, which resulted in distinct dose-response relationships and cytotoxicity. Type I and Type II cells were moderately associated with AgNPs but as the cellular AgNP dose increased, Type I cells remained viable while Type II cells became less viable. Type III cells did not have high affinity with AgNPs but were, however, the least viable. Transmission electron microscopic images revealed that the biodistribution and the released Ag+ ions contributed to the distinct toxic effects of AgNPs in different populations. This single-cell dose-response analysis approach enabled the examination of how differently individual cells responded to different cellular NP doses and provided insights into nanotoxicity pathways at a single-cell level.
