High-speed rail provides a safe, efficient, and economic transportation system for regions with high population density such as eastern China. To accommodate the rapid development of high-speed rails in China, the bridges with standard spans have been identified as the main infrastructure type. This article provides a state-of-the-art review on the design and construction of the standard simply-supported beam (simple beam) bridges for high-speed rails in China. The structural components discussed include the main girder, deck, and substructure. The live load models, deformation limiting values, and construction methods for the bridges are also discussed. Additionally, the experimental tests were conducted to verify the static and dynamic performances of the structure. The main objective of this paper is to provide the latest design and construction experience of Chinese standard simple beam bridges in high-speed rail and show how a quick and quality engineering has been achieved by utilizing these standardized bridges.

Based on the actual design and construction experience, the application of cement-soil in road and bridge foundation is designed. First of all, the basic parameters of foundation soil are determined through coring; then, the mix proportion of cement-soil is designed; Finally, the structural design is conducted on cement-soil according to different usages. The results show that using the cement-soil to improve the road and bridge subgrade, it can not only effectively improve the subgrade strength and durability, but also be convenient for construction, save a lot of building materials and reduce the project cost, which has a great guiding significance on the design and construction of the bridge.

Currently, the construction of low energy buildings in Europe is promoted. Existing and newly developed design and construction concepts for such buildings are adapted to their national or regional climatic conditions. The European Parliament has assigned the member countries to get ready for the reduction of the energy consumption in buildings. Therefore, Lithuania, like other EU countries, must be examined for the use of the low energy building design and construction experience, the existing concepts of low energy buildings should be adapted or new concepts of low energy building responding to the region's climate should be created. In this article, the most popular European mid‐region passive house concept and the energetic performance of the house, designed and built according to its requirements is analyzed, the main differences of this concept to the normative requirements of Lithuanian building regulations and proposals to improve provisions for the construction of low energy buildings in Lithuania is provided.

AbstractLong-term cyclic variations in the distribution of prominences and intensities of green (530.3 nm) and red (637.4 nm) coronal emission lines over solar cycles 18–23 are presented. Polar prominence branches will reach the poles at different epochs in cycle 23: the north branch at the beginning in 2002 and the south branch a year later (2003), respectively. The local maxima of intensities in the green line show both poleward- and equatorward-migrating branches. The poleward branches will reach the poles around cycle maxima like prominences, while the equatorward branches show a duration of 18 years and will end in cycle minima (2007). The red corona shows mostly equatorward branches. The possibility that these branches begin to develop at high latitudes in the preceding cycles cannot be excluded.

AbstractWe present an analysis of short time-scale intensity variations in the coronal green line as obtained with high time resolution observations. The observed data can be divided into two groups. The first one shows periodic intensity variations with a period of 5 min. the second one does not show any significant intensity variations. We studied the relation between regions of coronal intensity oscillations and the shape of white-light coronal structures. We found that the coronal green-line oscillations occur mainly in regions where open white-light coronal structures are located.
