Although Miura origami has excellent planar expansion characteristics and good mechanical properties, its congenital flaws, e.g., open sections leading to weak out-of-plane stiffness and constituting the homogenization of the material, and resulting in limited design freedom, should also be taken seriously. Herein, two identical Miura sheets, made of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite, were bonded to form a tubular structure with closed sections, i.e., an origami tube. Subsequently, the dynamic performances, including the nature frequency and the dynamic displacement response, of the designed origami tubes were extensively investigated through numerical simulations. The outcomes revealed that the natural frequency and corresponding dynamic displacement response of the structure can be adjusted in a larger range by varying the geometric and material parameters, which is realized by combining origami techniques and the composite structures’ characteristics. This work can provide new ideas for the design of light-weight and high-mechanical-performance structures.

Abstract In this paper, the ordered single-open-chain (SOC) method in combination with the principle of virtual work is adopted to model and solve the forward dynamics of a single degree-of-freedom (DOF) parallel mechanism (PM), featuring one translation and two rotations (1T2R), which is applied in spatial vibrating screen (i.e., parallel vibrating screen mechanism, PVSM). Afterwards, the dynamic performances of the PVSM is optimized using differential evolution algorithm. Based on the kinematics of the PM, the forward dynamic model is derived and the dynamic response equation is built, of which the coefficient matrix is determined by means of the generalized velocity equation. Moreover, the Euler method was adopted to solve the numerical solution of the differential equation of motion to characterize the motion law and dynamics of the screen surface of the PVSM, which is verified with ADAMS simulation. With the parametric model, the dynamic optimization of PVSM is carried out to maximize the energy transfer efficiency, subject to the constraints on the link mass. The comparison of the dynamic performances of the PVSM with and without optimization reveals the improvement of the PM.

With the significant technological growth that affected autonomous vehicles in the last decade, several consequences occurred as: human factor exclusion, entry and exit manoeuvres precision from roundabouts, and headway reduction. In this paper, it was carried out a microsimulation approach study that aims to evaluate benefits in terms of safety obtained with flower roundabouts in a scenario where traffic is characterized by conventional vehicles “CVs” and Connected Autonomous Vehicles “CAVs”. This study focused on the evaluation of CAVs and CVs operation with the presence of the so called “weak users” or rather, pedestrians and bikes. Then, simulated scenarios were characterized by the presence of zebra-crossings in main roads, positioned at 20 m from circulatory carriageway edges. Micro simulation choice is due to the absence of survey data collection because the presence of CAVs in ordinary traffic is still minimal. The micro simulation was carried out through VISSIM, so it was operated with a specific methodological path, consisting, in the application, of O–D matrix based on real cases, in order to achieve an assessment of potential conflicts in relation with the increase in CAVs. Simulation results showed that higher safety levels were achieved for special cases of O–D distribution and with CAVs present. Finally, considering crash absence in results related to CAVs presence, safety interventions of such roundabout types have to be thorough. There were 10 O/D matrices analysed through VISSIM considering parameters as: average tail length, maximum tail length, average speed, vehicles, and number of stops quantity. As reported in the conclusion section, O/D matrices that showed minimum conflicts and maximum dynamic performances were identified.

The current accelerated developments within the automotive sector have triggered a series of performance, comfort, safety and design-related issues. Hence, oftentimes manufacturers are challenged to combine various elements so as to achieve an attractive design, without diminishing the vehicle’s dynamic performance. In order to determine the vehicle dynamic performances we carried out an analysis by two methods. In the first part of the paper, we have used the analytical method to establish the dynamic performances of a vehicle. The second part of our study addresses another method to determine the star performances of the vehicle by means of computerized simulations. The first test aimed to determine vehicle starting performances for two vehicle models, with similar technical configuration, but with the same initial data. In the second test, we aimed at determining the start performance for the same car model, with the same initial data, but for different adhesion coefficients

This paper presents a comprehensive and systematic approach in developing a new switching look-up table for direct power control (DPC) strategy applied to the three-phase grid connected three-level neutral-point clamped (3L-NPC) pulse width modulated (PWM) rectifier. The term of PWM rectifier used in this paper is also known as AC-DC converter. The approach provides detailed information regarding the effects of each multilevel converter space vector to the distribution of input active and reactive power in the converter system. Thus, the most optimal converter space vectors are able to be selected by the switching look-up table, allowing smooth control of the active and reactive powers for each sector. In addition, the proposed DPC utilizes an NPC capacitor balanced strategy to enhance the performance of front-end AC-DC converter during load and supply voltage disturbances. The steady state as well as the dynamic performances of the proposed DPC are presented and analyzed by using MATLAB/Simulink software. The results show that the AC-DC converter utilizing the new look-up table is able to produce almost sinusoidal line currents with lower current total harmonic distortion, unity power factor operation, adjustable DC-link output voltage and good dynamic response during load disturbance.

A new type of cable-strut tension structure named Annular Crossed Cable-truss Structure(ACCTS) comprises a series of planar cable-truss frames crossed each other. To investigate the force mechanism of ACCTS, a cable-truss frame model with 2-bar and 6-cable has been developed, and its initial stiffness formula has been derived as well. The model is further simplified to make it is upper and lower vector heights equal, and then the initial stiffness formula and the critical slack load formula are further deduced. Based on ANSYS software and cable-truss frame with a span of 60m, the influences of the number of struts and position of jumped layout on the cable-truss frame are studied. According to the former 60m span cable-truss frame's research results, the jumped layout of ACCTS with a span of 100m is studied. The static and dynamic performances of two schemes, the optimal jumped layout scheme and the original scheme, are systematically studied. It is shown that the number of struts would be about 6~8 for the planar cable-truss frame and the optimal order of jumped layout is strut 6-7→strut 4-5→strut 2-3. The optimal order of jumped layout of ACCTS agrees with that of the cable-truss frame, verifying the feasibility of conclusions. In the condition of no variation in the original structure's static and dynamic performance, the optimal scheme of the jumped layout will lower the steel consumption and enhance the buckling loads. Moreover, it also simplifies structure for easy construction.
