A number of studies have considered the evaluation of efficiency in higher education institutions. In this paper, we focus on the issue of revenue efficiency, in particular ascertaining the extent to which, given output prices, producers choose the revenue maximising vector of outputs. We then relax the price taking assumption to consider the case in which the market for some outputs is characterised by monopolistic competition. We evaluate efficiencies for English institutions of higher education for the academic year 2012–13 and find considerable variation across institutions in revenue efficiency. The relaxation of the price-taking assumption leads to relatively small changes, in either direction, to the estimated revenue efficiency scores. A number of issues surrounding the modelling process are raised and discussed, including the determination of the demand function for each type of output and the selection of inputs and outputs to be used in the model.

Aim/Purpose: This paper found some factors which influence research supervisees’ selection of their research supervisors. Background: Research on supervisor-supervisee relationship is mostly conducted when research students have already initiated their studies. Research on how a supervisor is selected before the research begins is researched less. How do supervisees select their supervisors? Which factors do they consider important? These questions were not clearly answered in the literature so far. Methodology: A scale was developed to measure factors which influence the selection of research supervisors. Using an online survey, data was collected from 315 research students in Malaysia between August and October 2018. Psychometric properties of the scale were assessed using exploratory factor analysis followed by confirmatory factor analysis. Construct reliability, convergent validity, and discriminant validity of the scale were assessed using composite reliability, maximal reliability, average variance extracted, and maximum shared variance. Contribution: How research supervisees select their supervisors is an understudied area. Most of the research on supervisor selection is done after the research journey has begun. This research focuses on the thought processes before supervisor selection. Findings: Demographics, expertise, and physical appearance emerge as important constructs that influence the thought process of a research supervisee. Each of these constructs is composed of several dimensions, each with its own weight and importance. Recommendations for Practitioners: Research supervision is an integral part of contemporary teaching profession. To develop this important dimension of an academic’s career, this research holds high significance. The emerging factors will help researcher supervisors enhance their profiles and become more visible. This has practical implications for higher education institutions as well. Recommendation for Researchers: Further studies in this area can explore these factors across different cultures, distinction between undergraduate and postgraduate students, public and private higher education institutions, and scholarship or self-funded students. Impact on Society: Attracting better and relevant research students will result in a better match between researcher’s capability and supervisor’s expertise leading to high impact research. Future Research: This research was done on only 315 respondents. More respondents from diverse population might influence the outcome.

Afslutningsvist diskuteres almendidaktikkens modellers potentiale i universitetsundervisning.Teachers continuously make decisions on content. However, theory about teaching and learning in higher education deals only sporadic with criteria for selection of content. This study examines 116 assignments concerning selection of content using categories from general didactics. The analysis shows that teachers have a considerable autonomy in selection of content. Significant criteria for selection is that content is regarded to present fundamental concepts and problems, its relation to research, that it gives a broad presentation of the topic, and the text book. Students’ actual knowledge, value for their future life, and the curriculum are less often emphasized as criteria for selection of content. The final section discusses potentials and limitations in application of general didactics to higher education.

The paper aims to investigate the influencing factors for the choice of accounting specialization by students at ten public higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). In addition to the above, the paper also explores the gender structure of the students, the type of secondary education, the time of making the decision to choose the field of accounting, and planned future training in accounting. The research sample consisted of 253 respondents, and data collection was performed by electronic survey through distance learning platforms. To identify the key factors in choosing to study accounting, we used the multivariate method of factor analysis of major components. The results of the research point to the existence of four key influencing factors in the selection of accounting specialization: achievement, job fulfillment, the influence of authorities in the field of science and profession, and the influence of parents and friends. Over 77 percent of the students are women, and the students have mostly completed general high schools (gymnasiums) or high schools of economics (92 percent). More than 98 percent of the students plan to continue their training in the field of accounting. The results of the research have practical use in terms of preparation and presentation of accounting policies at public higher education institutions in BiH, given that the reduced number of students has resulted in rival positions among different study areas. The results of the research can also be useful to professional groups in the field of accounting in terms of achieving their strategic goals.

The authors of this article point to the need to update the content of language education of foreign non-philological students of the Ukrainian higher education institutions. Updating the content component of the Ukrainian language teaching system as a foreign language foregrounds the following factors: the demands of a contemporary information society for the tasks and results of foreign language teaching, modern standards of language education, conditions for the teaching process organization of language disciplines to foreign students of the Ukrainian higher education institutions, and communicative needs of foreign students with a new mindset. An act of communication is considered to be the basic unit of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language, which linguistic incarnations are discourse sentence expressions and discourse texts. An effective updating enabler of a language education content of foreign non-philological students is to identify most suitable general methodological principles for the selection of teaching materials. Techniques of educational technologies in the empirical spectrum of methodology are developed precisely in terms of linguodidactic principles. The present research theoretically substantiates the distinction of the selection principles for the content components of a language education system of foreign non-philological students. It describes the array of experimental tools for the expert assessment of practitioners as well as highlights statistical indicators of the survey results. The article also analyzes the discussion of the principles proposed by the authors for the selection of language materials for teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language to non-philological students. This article also exemplifies the results of a holistic assessment by experts of a probable application of the principles suggested in questionnaires on the selection of learning materials for textbooks / manuals that are used in the actual learning process. Statistical indicators of the imparted expert evaluation have verified the relevance to improve existing textbooks / manuals and bring them closer to communicative needs of modern foreign students with mosaic thinking, the requirements of up-to-date educational language standards, and conditions for the teaching process organization of language disciplines to foreign students of the Ukrainian higher education institutions.
