Social health and mental health needs change throughout life, and this chapter highlights those particularly relevant for adolescents and elderly people. As a general rule, people with intellectual disabilities have the same needs as other members of the community, but they may also have additional needs for which they are entitled to extra support.

The only way for going to rehabilitation and social participation expansion in elderly people is the identification of their special needs in a scientific and accurate way. This study conducted in order to identify the special needs in elderly people. This article is a part of a qualitative research with grounded theory method. 15 elderly of Tehran city that were selected through a purposeful sampling participated in study. The main method for collecting data was semi-structured interview that continued until theoretical saturation of information. Data was analyzed with Strauss & Corbin coding manner or continued comparison and the assessor’s viewpoints method is used for validity promotion of data. Totally, most important domains of special needs in aging group were: family and relatives, education, movement and transportation, building and places (houses and public places), social participation and occupation, amusement, health and treatment services, and people’s attitude toward their problems. Those elderly people's special needs that are disabling are often caused by their characteristics and obstacles which are created by society. Therefore, resolving these man-made barriers such as non efficient systems and services, discriminatory policies, prejudice attitudes, etc will help them in the field of rehabilitation and individual independence enhancement.

There can be a lot of individuals out there who need constant help – may it be our elderly people, family members, the ones who have special needs. These people apparently need the kind of care which most busy family members cannot provide. Some people may forget to take the medicines at the correct time and can forget the medicines which they have to take. So in order to help them with this liability we have developed this project. The people are provided a smart med box on which there will be a display which notifies the people about the medicine. Along with this we can alert them with an alarm and light indications. So that even if the person is sleeping or busy with some work the alarm helps in alerting him. to confirm that the person has taken that medicine or not we can put one button at the opening end of the pill box. so when the person tries to open the box the button is pressed and the alarm will be off only if the buzzer is pressed by this data we can tell that the person has taken medicine. It comes with one more feature that when the person is feeling uneasy or in case of some emergency he can notify the people by pressing the button on the device. There are different buttons, one is used to notify the doctor and the other one is used to notify family members about the emergency.

ABSTRACTThe literature on caring and carers has tended to emphasise the care of aged parents by middle-aged daughters. A recent government survey, however, has drawn attention to the fact that a substantial proportion of all carers are themselves elderly. This paper focuses on elderly carers. It shows that at least a third of elderly people can expect to become carers during retirement. Elderly carers differ from younger carers in that they: care for shorter periods; are more likely to provide intimate personal care and heavy nursing tasks associated with terminal care; and to be caring for their most significant other, usually a spouse. It is suggested that elderly carers represent a sub-group of carers with special needs not necessarily met by present service provision. Some more appropriate interventions are suggested.

A speech-language pathology master's program that grew out of a partnership between the University of Zambia and a U.S.-based charitable organization, Connective Link Among Special needs Programs (CLASP) International, has just been completed in Zambia. The review of this program is outlined according to the suggested principles for community-based partnerships, a framework which may help evaluate cultural relevance and sustainability in long-term volunteer efforts (Israel, Schulz, Parker, & Becker, 1998).
