Since its introduction in the early 1950s, the Delphi technique has experienced ever-increasing utilization, variants, praise, and criticism. The purpose of this article is to propose an evolutionary variant called Imen-Delphi for futures research. This article suggests that an Imen-Delphi procedure may be appropriate as a research technique to improve the efficiency of a group of panelists to invent change. This article describes the Imen-Delphi's design and procedure, alongside details of a real world example of its use in engaging a group of participants to redefine a relevant future-mission for their educational institute.

In Canada, graduates of internal medicine training programs should be proficient in ambulatory medicine and practice. Before determining how to improve education in ambulatory care, a list of desired learning outcomes must be identified and used as the foundation for the design, implementation and evaluation of instructional events. The Delphi technique is a qualitative-research method that uses a series of questionnaires sent to a group of experts with controlled feedback provided by the researchers after each round of questions. A modified Delphi technique was used to determine the competencies required for an ambulatory care curriculum based on the CanMEDS roles. Four groups deemed to be critical stakeholders in residency education were invited to take part in this study: 1. Medical educators and planners, 2. Members of the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine (CSIM), 3. Recent Royal College certificants in internal medicine, 4. Residents currently in core internal medicine residency programs. Panelists were sent questionnaires asking them to rate learning outcomes based on their importance to residency training in ambulatory care. Four hundred and nineteen participants completed the round 1 questionnaire that was comprised of 75 topics identified through a literature search. Using predefined criteria for degree of importance and consensus, 19 items were included in the compendium and 9 were excluded after one round. Forty-two items for which the panel that did not reach consensus, as well as 3 new items suggested by the panel were included in the questionnaire for round 2. Two hundred and forty participants completed the round 2 questionnaire; consensus was reached for each of the 45 items. After two rounds, 21 items were included in the final compendium as very high priority topics (“must be able to”). An additional 26 items were identified as high priority topics (“should be able to”). The overall ratings by each of the four groups were similar and there were no differences between groups that affected the selection of items for the final compendium. To our knowledge this is the first time a Delphi-process has been used to determine the content of an ambulatory care curriculum in internal medicine in Canada. Abstract OBJECTIVE To identify the perception of the coordinators of the Specialization Courses in Cardiovascular Nursing about inserting content from Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and analyze them in relation to the technological competencies and regarding its applicability, relevance and importance in assisting, teaching and management. METHOD Descriptive study with 10 coordinators of the Specialization course in Cardiologic Nursing, who replied to the questionnaire for the development of technological competency adapted from the Technology Initiative Guidelines Education Reforms (TIGER), and analyzed using the Delphi technique for obtaining consensus and scored according to the relevance, pertinence and applicability using Likert scale according to degree of agreement. RESULTS Six courses developed ICT content. The contents of the TIGER were considered relevant, pertinent and applicable. CONCLUSION The coordinators recognize the need for technological competencies of the Cardiovascular Nurse for healthcare applicability.

ObjectiveTo delineate a comprehensive curriculum for fellowship training in neuroinfectious diseases, we conducted a modified Delphi approach to reach consensus among 11 experts in the field.MethodsThe authors invited a diverse range of experts from the American Academy of Neurology Neuro-Infectious Diseases (AAN Neuro-ID) Section to participate in a consensus process using a modified Delphi technique.ResultsA comprehensive list of topics was generated with 101 initial items. Through 3 rounds of voting and discussion, a curriculum with 83 items reached consensus.ConclusionsThe modified Delphi technique provides an efficient and rigorous means to reach consensus on topics requiring expert opinion. The AAN Neuro-ID section provided the pool of diverse experts, the infrastructure, and the community through which to accomplish the consensus project successfully. This process could be applied to other subspecialties and sections at the AAN.

Up to 50% of cancer patients and up to 90% of those in terminal stages experience pain associated with disease progression, poor quality of life, and social impact on caregivers. This study aimed to establish standards for the accreditation of oncological pain management in healthcare organizations. A mixed methods approach was used. First, a pragmatic literature review was conducted. Second, consensus between professionals and patients was reached using the Nominal Group and Delphi technique in a step that involved anesthesiologists, oncologists, family physicians, nurses, psychologists, patient representatives, and caregivers. Third, eight hospitals participated in a pilot assessment of the level of fulfillment of each standard. A total of 37 standards were extracted. The Nominal Group produced additional standards, of which 60 were included in Questionnaire 0 that was used in the Delphi Technique. Two Delphi voting rounds were performed to reach a high level of consensus, and involved 64 and 62 participants with response rates of 90% and 87%, respectively. Finally, 39 standards for the management of cancer pain were agreed upon. In the self-evaluation, the average range of compliance was between 56.4% and 100%. The consensus standards of the ACDON Project might improve the monitoring of cancer pain management. These standards satisfied the demands of professionals and patients and could be used for the accreditation of approaches in cancer pain management.
