PurposeThis study explored in-service educators' experience of using the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative (WATI) for assistive technology (AT) decision-making within Singapore schools.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted a qualitative design. Eight educators across both mainstream and special education schools were introduced to the WATI framework which they subsequently employed as a trial experience for a student under their care. Written feedback gathered from participants was analysed to identify common issues and themes regarding the use of the WATI framework for AT decision-making.FindingsThe comprehensive consideration of a broad scope of different factors, provision of a structured process for AT decision-making, as well as a common language for use by different stakeholders emerged as key benefits of implementing the WATI. Challenges encountered include administrative struggles in gathering different stakeholders together, time and resource constraints and difficulties in loaning AT devices for trial use.Practical implicationsBased on educators' feedback, recommendations to facilitate the adoption of the WATI for AT decision-making within Singapore schools are discussed and considered. This study also highlights the need for greater AT instruction within both preservice and in-service teacher preparation programmes in Singapore.Originality/valueSchools in Singapore currently rarely adopt any frameworks in place to guide educators through a systematic process of AT consideration. The lottery funding for technology in the state of Georgia has reshaped the directions of K-12 schools and redefined education at all levels. The use of technology has improved information access and provided new means for information retrieval.The impact of technology integration on teaching and learning is evident in many of Georgia’s schools. The discrepancies in the allocation of state funding across school levels and among regions, however, have widened the gap between the “information rich” and the “information poor.” This paper describes the impact of Georgia’s Technology Initiative on information access, teaching, and learning. It will address key issues for creating a technology-rich environment and provides recommendations for technology implementation.

Organizational scholars are increasingly interested in understanding how ideas travel across an organizational field. While most studies focus on how travelling ideas translate into organizational practices, we lack insights into the broader issue of how ideas translate as they move among heterogeneous actors across the field. To explore this multidirectional travelling of ideas, we build on the notion of translation ecology to capture the ongoing interactions among field members as they are involved in translation work within and outside adopting organizations. To develop our argument, we draw from a longitudinal, 20-year case study of a public sector digital transformation programme in Denmark through which ideas about mobile technology use for caregivers spread across the entire homecare field. By following the mobile technology initiative over time, we show how ideas travelled in multiple directions as adopting organizations and other influential field actors participated in and contributed to diverse practices across organizations. Based on our analyses, we identify three distinct forms of multidirectional idea travelling – reinforcing, complementing and polarizing – and describe how they together shape the morphing of ideas as they move among heterogeneous actors in a translation ecology. As a result, we advance knowledge about multidirectional idea travelling as an under-theorized and important perspective in the translation literature.

In recent decades, the global processes of technological development of industry, due to innovative modernization, have become comprehensive, affecting both manufacturing and raw materials industries. One of the components of global technological modernization is technological convergence – the combination of technologies from different industries, resulting in a inter-industry genesis of new production methods. Despite the fact that technological convergence is transforming, first of all, the industries associated with the deep processing of raw materials and highly intelligent intangible production, mining industry is in the greatest need for modernization. This is due to turbulent demand and volatile prices for mineral resources in the global market, with the widespread introduction of energy and resource saving technologies. Therefore, the mining sector of the Russian economy is looking for a "fulcrum" in initiating the diffusion of convergent technologies in mining and management processes of industrial enterprises. This "fulcrum" is intended to be the National Technology Initiative, the key target markets of which are fully consistent with the technological requirements of the Russian mining complex.

The article indicates the draft model of an NTI specialist, built on the basis of the generalized opinion of experts. Education as an integrated process is focused on the intellectual, spiritual and moral, creative, physical and/or professional development of a person. Based on the analysis of personality theories, the main criteria of the personality model of an NTI specialist are determined. An algorithm for group expert assessment of the personality model of an NTI specialist is presented. Methods for registering indicators of the formation of personality substructures of NTI specialists are pedagogical and psychological diagnostics and expert assessment. The tendencies of positive changes in the personality development of NTI specialists are revealed.

At present, it is important for national economies to adapt to the emerging conditions of volatility. One of the main trends in the modern world is the transition to a new technological order. Therefore, it is important to build the economic system of any state on the basis of current trends. Taking into account the potential of the fuel and energy complex of the Russian Federation as a whole, and of its individual regions in particular, it is advisable to renew such sub-industries as the extractive industry. Modernization based on the use of new technologies in such a large sector of the economy has significant prospects in the context of the implementation of the National Technology Initiative. One of the tools contributing to innovative development is the formation of technology platforms. Regions can show different rates of involvement in the process of technological renewal due to the different level of the formed scientific and technical base and resource potential. Nevertheless, the centralized concentration of innovations, scientific resources and modern infrastructure are designed to have a positive impact on the subjects, regardless of the degree of influence of internal factors.
