Abstract We re-processed spectroscopic echelle data on 1999 S4 (LINIER), a catastrophically disintegrated comet, and 2001 Q4 (NEAT) obtained at not quite favorable circumstances. Photometric conditions at the observations were good but measurements of the spectra for the first one were performed at a large zenith distance and the second - with a relatively low spectral resolution. Nevertheless, we succeeded in detection and identification of fluorescent emission lines of 9 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and simpler molecules in the spectra of both comets. Our results are in accordance with those of other authors and substantiate present notions about origin of the comets.

Thirty-one radio sources have been investigated for the presence of OH-line radiation in their directions. Absorption and anomalous emission lines were observed. The equipment and methods of observation have been described by Gardner, McGee and Robinson (1967). An aerial beamwidth of 12’.5 arc was combined with a 48-channel line receiver of bandwidths 37 and 10 kHz.

In 1980, You & Cheng (1980) suggested that in a dense gas medium, relativistic electrons will produce Čerenkov atomic or molecular emission lines of widths Δλ ≈ 1 – 10Å. The Čerenkov line is broader than a normal emission line and has small redshift (ΔZc ≡ Δλp/λlu ≈ 10–3), so the apparent velocity is about a few hundred km s−1. We refer to this as the ‘Čerenkov redshift’. In 1986, You & Cheng gave simplified formulae for Čerenkov line emission and the mechanism was confirmed by a series of elegant experiments (Xu et al. 1988, 1989). Recent progress in studies of AGNs, both in theory and observation, provide support for the Čerenkov line-emission model of the BLR of AGNs. In this paper, we prove that for a dense gas, if there are enough relativistic electrons, the Čerenkov line emission is strong enough to compare with the observations, and the Čerenkov line emission dominates over the spontaneous emission lines in the optically thick case.

AbstractA solar coronal loop system has been photographed in soft X-rays using a normal incidence telescope based on multilayer mirror technology. The telescope consisted of a spherical objective mirror of 4 cm aperture and 1 m focal length, a film cassette, and a focal plane shutter. A metallized thin plastic film filter was used to exclude visible light. The objective mirror was covered with a multilayer coating consisting of alternating layers of tungsten and carbon whose combined thicknesses satisfied the Bragg diffraction condition for 44 Å radiation. The image was recorded during a rocket flight on 1985 October 25, and was dominated by emission lines arising from the Si XII spectrum. The rocket also carried a high resolution soft X-ray spectrograph that confirmed the presence of Si XII line radiation in the source. This image represents the first successful use of multilayer technology for astrophysical observations.

The observations of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) emission lines of Feix through Fe XVI made by OSO-I have been applied to a study of the solar corona above active regions. Ultraviolet and radio emission are determined for several levels of activity classified according to the type of sunspot group associated with the active region. Both radio emission and line radiation from Fe XVI, the highest stage of ionization of Fe observed, are observed to increase rapidly with the onset of activity and are most intense over an E spot group early in the lifetime of the active region. As activity diminishes, radiation from Fe XV and Fe XIV becomes relatively more prominent. Preliminary X-ray data from OSO-III obtained during a flare are introduced. These indicate that radiation from the highest stage of iron thus far observed, Fe XXV, reaches a maximum first in an X-ray burst and that maxima in lower stages of ionization follow, with delays from 2 to 15 min.

AbstractLong-term cyclic variations in the distribution of prominences and intensities of green (530.3 nm) and red (637.4 nm) coronal emission lines over solar cycles 18–23 are presented. Polar prominence branches will reach the poles at different epochs in cycle 23: the north branch at the beginning in 2002 and the south branch a year later (2003), respectively. The local maxima of intensities in the green line show both poleward- and equatorward-migrating branches. The poleward branches will reach the poles around cycle maxima like prominences, while the equatorward branches show a duration of 18 years and will end in cycle minima (2007). The red corona shows mostly equatorward branches. The possibility that these branches begin to develop at high latitudes in the preceding cycles cannot be excluded.

In the history of American popular religion, the Latter-day Saints, or Mormons, have undergone a series of paradigmatic shifts in order to join the Christian mainstream, abandoning such controversial core doctrines and institutions as polygamy and the political kingdom of God. Mormon historians have played an important role in this metamorphosis, employing a version (if not perversion) of the Church-Sect Dichotomy to change the past in order to control the future, arguing, in effect, that founder Joseph Smith Jr’s erstwhile magical beliefs and practices gave way to a more “mature” and bible-based self-understanding which is then said to best describe the religion that he founded in 1830. However, an “esoteric approach” as Faivre and Hanegraaff understand the term has much to offer the study of Mormonism as an old, new religion and the basis for a more even methodological playing field and new interpretation of Mormonism as equally magical (Masonic) and biblical (Evangelical) despite appearances. This article will focus on early Mormonism’s fascination with and employment of ciphers, or “the coded word,” essential to such foundation texts as the Book of Mormon and “Book of Abraham,” as well as the somewhat contradictory, albeit colonial understanding of African character and destiny in these two hermetic works of divine inspiration and social commentary in the Latter-day Saint canonical tradition.

BKR selanjutnya melahirkan pembentukan TKR (Tentara Keamanan Rakyat), TKR (Tentara Keselamatan Rakyat), TRI (Tentara Republik Indonesia) dan TNI (Tentara Nasional Indonesia). Kedua, jika PETA dianggap sebagai cikal bakal TNI, maka KNIL dan beberapa satuan keprajuritan diabaikan. Padahal, beberapa bekas perwira KNIL memiliki peran penting di tubuh BKR hingga TNI.Kata kunci: BKR, Tentara, TNIAbstractThe main subject this study is BKR – Indonesian civil defense corps – as origin of Indonesian Military. This study is new interpretation about the origin of TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) now. Many opinion refer to PETA as civil defense corps in Japanese occupation era. Study emlpoys a Historical Method, which consists of four stage: Heuristic, Critic, Interpretation, Historiography. The study utilize some sources such as newspaper, magazine, and book. Main finding of this study is PETA had dispersed as legality and formally and BKR was formed as the firts corps after Independence of Indonesia. Futhermore, BKR changed to TKR (Tentara Keamanan Rakyat), TKR (Tentara Keselamatan Rakyat), TRI (Tentara Republik Indonesia) until TNI (Tentara Nasional Indonesia). If PETA is considered as origins of Indonesian Military, then it ignore KNIL – a colonial armed forces – and the other defence corps. Even though the eks KNIL’s officer have important role in military managenment of BKR until TNI.Keywords: BKR, Military, TNI
