The conversion of the electrical energy into the mechanical is usually realized by a motor, power electronics and cascade control. The relative stability (Θ-stability), i.e., the displacement of its eigenvalues of this system is analyzed for a drive with a BLDC motor. The influence of changing the basic parameters of the motor and power supply system on the drive operation is considered. 4th order closed-loop transfer-function of the cascade control is presented, where boundaries of the transfer-function coefficients are used. The cascade system which uncertainty of the resistance, inductance, flux and gain parameters is analyzed. Theoretical calculations for the cascade control, simulations and laboratory tests are included in the article.

In a cascade hydroponic system, the used nutrient solution drained from a primary crop is directed to a secondary crop, enhancing resource-use efficiency while minimizing waste. Nevertheless, the inevitably increased EC of the drainage solution requires salinity-tolerant crops. The present study explored the salinity-tolerance thresholds of basil to evaluate its potential use as a secondary crop in a cascade system. Two distinct but complemented approaches were used; the first experiment examined basil response to increased levels of salinity (5, 10 and 15 dS m−1, compared with 2 dS m−1 of control) to identify the limits, and the second experiment employed a cascade system with cucumber as a primary crop to monitor basil responses to the drainage solution of 3.2 dS m−1. Growth, ascorbate content, nutrient concentration, and total amino acid concentration and profile were determined in both experiments. Various aspects of basil growth and biochemical performance collectively indicated the 5 dS m−1 salinity level as the upper limit/threshold of tolerance to stress. Higher salinity levels considerably suppressed fresh weight production, though the total concentration of amino acids showed a sevenfold increase under 15 dS m−1 and 4.5-fold under 5 and 10 dS m−1 compared to the control. The performance of basil in the cascade system was subject to a compromise between a reduction of fresh produce and an increase of total amino acids and ascorbate content. This outcome indicated that basil performed well under the conditions and the system employed in the present study, and might be a good candidate for use as a secondary crop in cascade-hydroponics systems.

In order to analyze the year-end water level of multi-year regulating reservoir of the cascade hydropower system, this paper studied the joint operation optimization model of cascade reservoirs and its solving method based on multi-dimensional dynamic programming, and analyzed the power generation impact factors of cascade system that contains multi-year regulating reservoir. In particular, taking the seven reservoirs in the middle and lower reaches of Yalong River as an example, the optimal year-end water levels of multi-year regulating reservoir under the multi-year average situation and different inflow frequencies situation were studied. Based on the optimal calculation results of multi-dimensional dynamic programming, the inflow frequency difference considered operation rule of year-end water level of Lianghekou reservoir was extracted using the least square principle. The simulation results showed that, compared with the fixed year-end water level in multi-year, the extracted rule can improve the cascade power generation by more than 400 million kWh in an average year, representing an increase of 0.4%. This result means that the extracted rule can give full play to the regulation performance of multi-year regulating reservoir and improve the conversion efficiency of hydropower resources in cascade system. This is of great significance to the practical operation of cascade reservoirs system that contains multi-year regulating reservoir.

Using Gardiner and Collet’s input-output model and the concept of cascade system, we determine the filtering equation for a quantum system driven by light in some specific nonclassical states. The quantum system and electromagnetic field are described by making use of quantum stochastic unitary evolution. We consider two examples of the nonclassical states of field: a combination of vacuum and single photon states and a mixture of two coherent states. The stochastic evolution conditioned on the results of the photon counting and quadrature measurements is described.
