Workplace skills are essential skills needed by graduates today to fulfill the demands of employers. Employers in the hospitality industry are looking for well-prepared Culinary Arts graduates that possess adequate training and are equipped with workplace skills to fill up positions in the job market. Apart from skills, teacher competency impacts the acquisition of knowledge and workplace skills among Culinary Arts students and contributes to the issue of unemployment. This study aims to differentiate workplace skills and teacher competency based on gender, socio-economic status, as well as academic and vocational achievements of Culinary Arts students. Furthermore, the relationship between workplace skills and teacher competency is assessed. This correlational study was conducted at Malaysian vocational colleges offering 2-year Culinary Arts programs involving 198 final year students. A 5-point Likert-scale questionnaire was used for data collection. The findings demonstrated that the students’ workplace skills and perception of teacher competency were at a moderate level. No significant differences were noted based on gender, socioeconomic status, as well as academic and vocational achievements. Teacher competency and workplace skills were correlated moderately and positively. This study provides a basis and serves as a reference to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training practitioners to design a curriculum for vocational college students in improving the acquisition of students’ workplace skills. Teachers are recommended to play an active role in efficiently integrating workplace skills in the learning process to enhance their competencies.

Recently the demand on teacher’s profesionalism is one of the most important agenda in our National Education System. Based on the regulation mode by government about the National Standard of Education, it forces every parties involved in educational system to accelerate the improvement the quality of learning and education the aims are done through preparing and improving the teachers’ skill professionally and also by managing the educational supporting elements. In improving the Elementary School teacher professionalism, the Departement of Education has done this by preparing Elementary School teacher competency based as the guideline. It is also used for measuring the competency level the teacher has. Morever it can be used as guidance and improvement of the teacher’s profesionalism. THE STRATEGY OF SMK TEACHER COMPETENCY IMPROVEMENT IN THE CONTEXT OF INDUSTRIAL STANDARDS FULFILLMENT. The aim of this research are: to find out the strategic effort in increasing SMK teacher’s competency of SMK, in order to produce SMK graduated base on Industry Standard. We used three theory; 1) Hard and soft skill theory; 2) SMK Teacher`s Competency; 3) Strategic Planning, management and thinking; Qualitative descriptive is more compatible we are used in this research, to explore some information, especially some hidden information; The result of this research are: honesty, attitude, leadership, positive thinking, hard worker, team building, etc.; 2) The teacher`s competency are needed to produce SMK graduated while high competency, included: a) Competency to accomodir what the industry are needed; b) How to translate it to curriculum, syllabus and RPP; How to redesign education`s system base on industry`s system, in order to produce SMK graduated based on industry; 3) There are some strategic to increase SMK teacher competency, included: a) Give more reward; b) Redesign effort in increasing teacher competency, base on financial perspective, customer perspective, internal organization perspective and growth perspective; c) Involved the teacher in discussing prose`s with all company in redesign curriculum and education process; d) Redesign environment that give the teacher`s opportunity to increase their competency; e) Redesign evaluation system; f) Redesign clear criteria for SMK teacher evaluation; g) Headmaster must to develop humanism leadership and give more attention to SMK to increase teacher attitude; h) Conducted discussion process with all teacher in the education institution to increase their competency based on industry needed.

Tuntutan profesionalisme guru adalah salah satu agenda terpenting dalam Sistem Pendidikan Nasional kita. Berdasarkan modus peraturan pemerintah tentang Standar Nasional Pendidikan, memaksa setiap pihak yang terlibat dalam sistem pendidikan untuk mempercepat peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran dan pendidikan tujuan dilakukan melalui mempersiapkan dan meningkatkan keterampilan guru profesional dan juga dengan mengelola unsur pendukung pendidikan. Dalam meningkatkan profesionalisme guru Sekolah Dasar, yang Departemen Pendidikan telah melakukan ini dengan mempersiapkan kompetensi guru Sekolah Dasar berdasarkan sebagai pedoman. This research aims to determine the efforts made in improving the competence of Arabic teacher through multiple intelligence-based classroom management at SD Plus Al-Kautsar Malang. It used a qualitative approach with a case study research design. The data collection included observation, interviews, and documentation, while analysis techniques relied on Miles and Hubermen’ steps as follow; data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results showed that the efforts to increase the competency of Arabic teachers through multiple intelligence-based classroom management at SD Plus Al-Kautsar Malang, including the improvement of pedagogic and professional competences. The effort to increase pedagogic competence was giving the training to educators related to the design of a lesson plan, while the effort to increase professional competence is training in applying multiple intelligence during the learning process, such as Multiple Intelligence System (MIS) and Multiple Intelligence Research (MIR) training.

The paper discusses the problems of the readiness of teachers to carry out distance educational activities. The main attention is paid to the structure of the concept. A model of teacher competency is proposed, reflecting technical, subject and methodological competencies in the technical, theoretical, practical and personal aspects. The system of competency descriptors is given. Specificity is revealed, goals and objectives are formulated, forms and methods of preparing a teacher for distance work are proposed. The necessity and relevance of remote pedagogical work, especially in conditions of forced isolation of students in 2020, is substantiated. The measures of state support for distance learning during the period of restrictive measures, some IT tools for organizing and supporting the educational process are described. The paper also analyzes some difficulties of teachers in the implementation of an indirect form of educational activity. It is proposed to use the electronic educational resource as a set of methodological tools providing all stages of the educational process as the main didactic tool for remote work. The development of the components of the resource, methods of its use in the educational process, ways of organizing the process and communication of participants are referred to the competence of the teacher. It is concluded that it is advisable to develop the competencies of teachers in organizing remote pedagogical work, and the subsequent development of the topic in scientific pedagogical research.
