Abstract Batatasin I was shown to occur in the fresh rhizomes of poisonous yam (Dioscorea dumetorum Pax.,). It was isolated by column chromatography and identified by chromatographic and spectral evidence. Two other unknown phenanthrenes were shown to occur by thin-layer chromatography.

The metabolism of a single dose of 3H-DL-α-tocopherol was studied in 16 sheep fed a dystrophy-producing hay alone or supplemented with cod liver oil. During the experimental period, which lasted for 5 days after the radioisotope dosing, radioactivity was higher in the rumen liquor of cod liver oil fed sheep than in those which received only hay. Significantly lower levels of radioactivity were found in the non-saponifiable material of various tissues of cod liver oil fed sheep than in the corresponding tissues of the unsupplemented animals. By means of column chromatography, thin layer chromatography, and radioautography the bulk of liver radioactivity was identified as unchanged α-tocopherol. Possible reasons for the difference in tissue radioactivity levels between cod liver oil fed and unsupplemented sheep are discussed.

Carotenoids are pigments with a range of red, orange and yellow colors. In carotenoid and chlorophyll plants are located in chloroplasts which undergo photosynthesis as well as photosynthetic bacteria and fungi. Carotenoid compounds have antioxidant activity, anticancer, as precursors of vitamin A and can enhance immunity. Crustaceans like crabs Grapsus sp. have carotenoid pigments, visible red, orange, and yellow are scattered in the carapace. Pigments found in crustaceans as well as crabs of Grapsus sp. generally sourced from food eaten by the crab. To determine the process of carotenoid pigment metabolism, each crab organ of Grapsus sp. isolated using thin layer chromatography separation method and column chromatography to determine the type of pigment contained therein. Pigment types identified in the crabs of Grapsus sp. males using the TLC method: β-carotene, Astasen type, Cantasantin, Astasantin, and Adonirubin. Pigment types identified in the crabs of Grapsus sp. males using the CC method: β-carotene, Astasen, β-cryptosanthine, Zeaxantine, and Cryptosanthine. Keywords : Grapsus sp., Thin Layer Chromatography, Column Chromatography, Carotenoids Pigments.             Karotenoid merupakan pigmen dengan kisaran warna merah, orange dan kuning. Pada tumbuhan karotenoid dan klorofil terletak pada kloroplas yang mengalami proses fotosintesis seperti juga pada bakteri fotosintetik dan fungi. Senyawa karotenoid memiliki aktivitas antioksidan, antikanker, sebagai prekursor vitamin A dan dapat meningkatkan imunitas. Krustasea seperti kepiting Grapsus sp. mempunyai pigmen karotenoid, terlihat warna merah, jingga, dan kuning yang tersebar pada karapas. Pigmen yang terdapat pada krustasea demikian juga pada kepiting Grapsus sp. umumnya bersumber dari makanan yang dimakan oleh kepiting tersebut. Untuk mengetahui proses metabolisme pigmen karotenoid maka masing-masing organ kepiting Grapsus sp. diisolasi dengan menggunakan metode pemisahan kromatografi lapis tipis dan kromatografi kolom untuk mengetahui jenis pigmen yang terkandung didalamnya. Jenis pigmen yang teridentifikasi pada kepiting Grapsus sp. jantan dengan metode KLT yaitu : β- karoten, Tipe Astasen, Kantasantin, Astasantin, dan Adonirubin. Jenis pigmen yang teridentifikasi pada kepiting Grapsus sp. jantan dengan metode KK  yaitu : β- karoten, Astasen, β-kriptosantin, Zeaxantin, dan Kriptosantin. Kata Kunci : Grapsus sp., Kromatografi Lapis Tipis, Kromatografi Kolom, Pigmen Karotenoid.

The Two-Dimensional Thin Layer Chromatography method has been used for the separation and identification of phenolic acids from six taxons of <em>Pohygonum</em> L. genus. The following acids were found: caffeic, p-coumaric, ferulic, p-hydroxybenzoic, m-hydroxybenzoic, vanillic, syringic, p-hydroxyphenylacetic, o-hydroxyphenylacetic, synapic, melillotic, salicylic, gentisic, elagic, gallic, chlorogenic, protocatechuic and homoprotocatechuic. Gallic, ferulic, vanillic, p-coumaric and p-hydroxybenzoic acids were isolated from herb <em>Polygonum convolvulus</em> L. using column chromatography.

Antioksidan adalah suatu senyawa yang dapat menangkap radikal bebas. Salah satu sumber anti oksidan alami adalah dari tumbuh-tumbuhan. Dalam usaha pencarian antioksidan baru, telah dilakukan identifikasi senyawa antioksidan dari ekstrak n-heksana kulit batang Garcinia bancana Miq dengan metode 1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil (DPPH). Metode isolasi dilakukan dengan cara  kombinasi kromatografi (Kromatografi kolom vacum, kromatografi kolom gravitasi, kromatografi lapis tipis  sentrifugal dan kromatografi lempeng tipis)  Penentuan struktur molekul berdasarkan analisis data spektroskopi UV-VIS, IR, LC-MS, NMR proton dan karbon. Dari  hasil isolasi didapatkan suatu senyawa isoprenil bezofenon dengan bobot molekul 466,22 dan  rumus molekul C28H34O6 dengan nama IUPAC 3-(3,4-dihidroksibenzoil)-4-hidroksi-8-8-dimetil-1,7-bis(3-metilbut-2enil) bisiklo (3.3.1) non-3-ene-2,9-dione atau disebut bacanone yang diduga senyawa baru. Dari proses isolasi juga ditemukan senyawa atsiri b- caryophyllene, α-humulene dan b-cadinene serta stigmasterol. Hasil uji aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak n-heksana dan hasil isolat murni menunjukkan IC50 berturut-turut 17,78 ppm dan 12,79 ppm dimana pembanding kuersetin adalah 9,90 ppm.Kata kunci:  Garcinia bancana, antioksidan, DPPH, 3-(3,4-dihidroksibenzoil)-4-hidroksi-8-8-dimetil-1,7-bis(3-metilbut-2enil)bisiklo(3.3.1)no-3-ene-2,9-dione, bacanone. Antioxidants are compounds that can capture free radicals. One source of natural antioxidant is from plants. On searching  for new antioxidant, identification of antioxidant compound of the n-hexane extract of the stem bark of Garciniabancana Miq was done by  1.1-diphenyl-2-pikrilhidrazil (DPPH) method. Isolation active compound were done by combination of chromatographic methods (Flash column chromatography, gravitation column chromatography, cetrifugal thin layer chromatography and thin layer chromatography) .Determination of molecular structure by analysis spectroscopic data of UV-VIS, IR, LC-MS, NMR proton and carbon.Isolation results were      isophrenyl bezophenon with molecular weight 466.22 and the molecular formula is C28H34O6 IUPAC name 3 - (3,4-dihydroxybenzoil)-4-hydroxy-8-8-dimethyl-1,7-bis (3-methylbut-2enyl) bicyclo (3.3.1) non-3-ene-2,9-dione or named bacanone wich is suspected as a new compound. From the isolation were also found of known volatile compounds b - caryophyllene, α-humulene and b-cadinene and stigmasterol. The test results of antioxidant activity of  n-hexane extract and pure compound  showed IC50 respectively 17.78 ppm and 12.79 ppm which comparison with  quercetin is 9.90 ppm.
