Competitive activation mechanisms introduce competitive or inhibitory interactions between units through functional mechanisms instead of inhibitory connections. A unit receives input from another unit proportional to its own activation as well as to that of the sending unit and the connection strength between the two. This, plus the finite output from any unit, induces competition among units that receive activation from the same unit. Here we present a backpropagation learning rule for use with competitive activation mechanisms and show empirically how this learning rule successfully trains networks to perform an exclusive-OR task and a diagnosis task. In particular, networks trained by this learning rule are found to outperform standard backpropagation networks with novel patterns in the diagnosis problem. The ability of competitive networks to bring about context-sensitive competition and cooperation among a set of units proved to be crucial in diagnosing multiple disorders.

This study is based on the problems that occur in IPS learning in class VIII-D students of SMPN 5 Bandung that is teacher-centered in the classroom and the ability of students to think high-order are still low. The alternative problem solving chosen is by applying the Means Ends Analysis (MEA) learning model. Based on the background, the formulation of this study problem is how the planning, implementation, implementation results and what are the obstacles of the learning model Means Ends Analysis in attempt to improve the ability of high-order thinking. Reviewing the problems to be studied in relation to the learning process, the author chose Classroom Action Research (PTK) with Kemmis and Taggart cycle model in 3 cycles with 12 actions. Implementation of learning by using learning model Means Ends Analysis in improving the ability of students high-order thinking are said to succeed. The improvement of high-order thinking ability of students can be seen from the development of aspects that becomeindicators of high-order thinking. All aspects of this indicator have evolved from cycle 1 to cycle 3, from which initially the quality is less, it is sufficient to improve. In conclusion, the implementation of learning model Means Ends Analysis can improve the ability of high-order thinking of students in IPS learning. This is supported by the achievement of all indicators in analyzing and evaluating. Both are in good categories and indicators to create are in enough category.

This study was conducted to discover the correlation between family functioning and Subjective Well-Being (SWB) toward mothers who have an intellectual disability child at SLB – C Bandung, total respondent are 52 persons. The tool to measure family functioning is Family Assessment Device (Epstein, Bishop, & Levin 1978), which was translated by Triad English Centre and modified by the researcher. The tool to measure SWB was created by researcher, which was based on theory by Diener (2008). Each total score dimension family functioning being correlated with total score SWB using pearson correlation test on SPSS program for windows. The statistic result shows there are two dimension which have significantly positive correlation with SWB, namely problem solving (r = 0,293), and communication (r = 0,385), whereas roles, affective responsiveness, affective involvement, and behavior control are not significantly related with SWB (each coefficient r = 0,092, r = 0,180, r = 0,105, and r = 0,082). Conclusion from this study are from six dimension of family functioning, there are  two dimension which have a significant positive correlation with SWB, both of them are problem solving and communication. However, four dimension of family functioning are not related with SWB. The researcher suggest a further correlational study on family functioning and SWB with using one SLB - C. Other than that, the researcher suggest to mothers whom have an intellectual disability child at SLB – C Bandung to join a productive activity to increase SWB. Keywords:  Family functioning, Subjective Well-Being (SWB)

Problem-solving of High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) problems Mathematics is a part of the mathematics learning process that requires high-level adversity quotient (AQ) for students. This study aims to analyze the AQ level of students in solving mathematics HOTS problems. This research uses a case study-based qualitative approach. Research participants consisted of 47 students of class XI at an MA in East Lombok, NTB, in the even semester of the 2020-2021 academic year. The research sample was determined by purposive sampling. The instrument used was a diagnostic test consisting of descriptive questions and multiple-choice, AQ questionnaire, and interview guidelines. The results showed that: 1) the AQ level of the students was in the medium category in solving HOTS mathematics questions, 2) there was no relationship between the level of mathematics problem-solving ability and the AQ level of students in solving the HOTS mathematics problems, 3) the students quickly gave up in solving HOTS mathematics questions, and 4) Students have difficulty in the aspects of language, concepts, and strategies in solving HOTS Mathematics problems.

Inti dari pendidikan adalah usaha pendewasaan manusia seutuhnya (lahir dan batin), baik oleh orang lain maupun oleh dirinya sendiri, dalam arti tuntutan agar anak didik memiliki  kemerdekaan berfikir, merasa, berbicara, dan bertindak serta percaya diri dengan penuh rasa tanggung jawab dalam setiap tindakan dan prilaku kehidupannya sehari-hari(Basri, 2007:34). Dalam menghadapi dunia globalisasi siswa dituntut berpikiran Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) atau kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi merupakan kemampuan yang mencakup berpikir kritis, logis, reflektif, dan metacognitive dalam segala bidang terutama dalam bidang IPA. Kemampuan yang aktif ketika seorang peserta didik menghadapi permasalahn yang tidak biasa, ketidaktentuan, pertanyaan atau dilema dalam mehami bidang fluida statis. Fulida statsis ini memeiliki peranan  penting dalam siswa memahami teknik fisika Untuk membantu siswa bisa berpikir HOTS Higher Order Thinking Skill maka penulis membuat manejemen pendidikan di bidang modul IPA yang berbasis HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skill). Perancangan modul ini divalidasi oleh teman sejawat yang berkompeten sehingga menghasilkan modul yang membantu siswa dalam berpikir HOTS dalam bidang fluida statis sehingga siswa memiliki nilai di atas KKM (Kriteria Kelulusan Minimal)
