The real-time monitoring of electric capacitance (impedance spectroscopy) allowed obtaining evidence that structures which look like intestinal villi can be formed during the cultivation under static conditions as well as during the cultivation in microfluidic chips. It was shown in this work via transcriptome analysis that the Hh signaling pathway is involved in the formation of villus-like structures in vitro, which was previously shown for their formation in vivo. impedance spectroscopy, intestine, villi, electric capacitance, Hh The study was funded by the Russian Science Foundation (Project 16-19-10597).

AbstractDirect real-time observations of electromigration (EM) in submicron Al interconnects were made using a special sample-stage which allowed TEM observations to be recorded while simultaneously heating and passing current through the sample. The samples consisted of 4000 Å thick Al(0.5wt%Cu) patterned over a TEM-transparent window into five runners in parallel, with linewidths 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, and 1.0 μm. Both passivated and unpassivated samples were examined. A current density of 2 x 106A/cm2 was used with temperatures ranging from 200 - 350°C. The experiments were done using constant voltage testing, and we used a special sample design which dramatically minimized Joule-heating. Our approach has allowed us to directly observe voids form, grow, migrate, pin, fail a runner, and heal, all with respect to the detailed local microstructure of the runners.

Sensor nodes have been assigned a lot of tasks in a connected environment that is growing rapidly. The power supply remains a challenge that is not answered convincingly. Energy harvesting is an emerging solution that is being studied to integrate in low power applications such as internet of things (IoT) and wireless sensor networks (WSN). In this work an interface circuit for a novel fluttering wind energy harvester is presented. The system consists of a switching converter controlled by a low power microcontroller. Optimization techniques on the hardware and software level have been implemented, and a prototype is developed for testing. Experiments have been done with generated input signals resulting in up to 67% efficiency for a constant voltage input. Other experiments were conducted in a wind tunnel that showed a transient output that is compatible with the target applications.
