In my job as program specialist for elementary mathematics for Orange County Public Schools in Orlando. Florida, the opportunities to network with colleagues, representatives of business and industry, members of the mathematics community, and community personnel are plentiful. One such networking episode enabled my dream for a parent project to come true.

We present the results of a mixed methods study focusing on the implementation of a pilot elementary mathematics specialist (EMS) endorsement program implemented in partnership with the several educational organizations to provide teachers in high needs rural areas an opportunity to earn the EMS endorsement through coursework and instructional leadership experiences. The data presented draw from social cognitive theory and andragogy to describe the experiences of the EMS candidates throughout their endorsement program and to provide recommendations for programmatic improvements. We sought to explore ways in which the EMS candidates’ experiences within the program and school-based internship impacted their levels of self-efficacy and perceived success within the program. We also sought to determine the opportunities and barriers that exist with the EMS candidates’ respective learning environments as they implemented professional learning plans with a core set of teachers they collaborated with to improve mathematics instruction. The results of this study indicate that both EMS candidates and the teachers they worked with increased their levels of mathematics content knowledge. EMS candidates also improved their levels of self-efficacy regarding mathematics teaching and leadership skills. Furthermore, both EMS candidates and their core set of teachers improved in time spent focused on ongoing professional learning activities. Recommendations include a need to support teachers as they expand their role into instruction as well as equip school leaders to ensure they can support teacher leadership candidates in their professional growth.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of special education practitioners (i.e., speech-language pathologists, special educators, para-educators, and other related service providers) on their role as communication partners after participation in the Social Communication and Engagement Triad (Buckley et al., 2015 ) yearlong professional learning program. Method A qualitative approach using interviews and purposeful sampling was used. A total of 22 participants who completed participation in either Year 1 or Year 2 of the program were interviewed. Participants were speech-language pathologists, special educators, para-educators, and other related service providers. Using a grounded theory approach (Glaser & Strauss, 1967 ) to data analysis, open, axial, and selective coding procedures were followed. Results Three themes emerged from the data analysis and included engagement as the goal, role as a communication partner, and importance of collaboration. Conclusions Findings supported the notion that educators see the value of an integrative approach to service delivery, supporting students' social communication and engagement across the school day but also recognizing the challenges they face in making this a reality.

In 2003, I began a longitudinal study into the purpose of education. The process of my investigation included getting involved in new innovations as they were introduced to our school board. As I looked deeper into the purpose of schooling I discovered some startling things about how and why systems of education, through the apparatus of schooling, influence who and what, professionally, people become. I also discovered patterns related to the act of becoming that exist in school reforms. This study analyzes three reforms introduced between 2003 and 2017: Professional Learning Community, Differentiation of Instruction, and Social-Emotional Learning.

This research is motivated by the lack of interest of teachers in the use of props in the process of learning mathematics in elementary school. In accordance with the demands of the curriculum in 2013 and supported by the developed learning theory, learning mathematics is abstract object of study, students need an intermediary that props math-ematics, so that students can more easily understand the concepts that will be pre-sented, and in the end it can deliver students to solve mathematical problems, not only that proposed by the teacher but also the problems in life. The purpose of this study was to determine the interest of prospective elementary teachers on the use of props mathematics after getting lectures media and elementary mathematics learning model. By knowing the interest of prospective elementary teachers will be developed further realization of the state of the subject being studied. The method used is descriptive research, then the instruments used were questionnaires and interviews. The results of this study stated that the interest of prospective elementary teachers on the use of props after attending lectures media and elementary mathematics learning model is high over-all with a percentage of 76.70%.Keywords : Interest, Props Mathematics
