Abstract The present study investigated the extent to which 18 dyads in 5th and 6th grade, who experienced low levels of social challenge, differed from 12 dyads who experience high levels of social challenge in terms of the quality of their written assignment, as well as the frequency and sequential pattern of their cognitive, metacognitive, relational, and off-task activities during a collaborative hypermedia assignment. Sequential analyses were performed by means of process mining with a fuzzy miner algorithm. Results showed that assignment quality was higher for low social challenge dyads. In addition, these more successful dyads showed more cognitive processing activities, more high-cognition, and fewer off-task activities. In terms of their process models, low and high challenge dyads showed marked differences. More specifically, high social challenge dyads showed a vicious cycle of social challenges and off-task behaviors, whereas low social challenge dyads engaged in high-cognition. In addition, for low challenge dyads, but not high challenge dyads, the various metacognitive activities were closely connected to each other. These findings indicate that social challenges not only affect assignment quality, but also fundamentally affect the overall learning process.

Effective and accurate use of routinely collected health data to produce Key Performance Indicator reporting is dependent on the underlying data quality. In this research, Process Mining methodology and tools were leveraged to assess the data quality of time-based Emergency Department data sourced from electronic health records. This research was done working closely with the domain experts to validate the process models. The hospital patient journey model was used to assess flow abnormalities which resulted from incorrect timestamp data used in time-based performance metrics. The research demonstrated process mining as a feasible methodology to assess data quality of time-based hospital performance metrics. The insight gained from this research enabled appropriate corrective actions to be put in place to address the data quality issues.

Process mining is automated acquisition of process models from event logs. Although many process mining techniques have been developed, most of them are based on control flow. Meanwhile, the existing role-oriented process mining methods focus on correctness and integrity of roles while ignoring role complexity of the process model, which directly impacts understandability and quality of the model. To address these problems, we propose a genetic programming approach to mine the simplified process model. Using a new metric of process complexity in terms of roles as the fitness function, we can find simpler process models. The new role complexity metric of process models is designed from role cohesion and coupling, and applied to discover roles in process models. Moreover, the higher fitness derived from role complexity metric also provides a guideline for redesigning process models. Finally, we conduct case study and experiments to show that the proposed method is more effective for streamlining the process by comparing with related studies.

Learning is a process to acquire new knowledge. Ideally, this process is the result of an active interaction of key cognitive processes, such as perception, imagery, organization, and elaboration. Quality learning has emphasized on designing a course curriculum or learning process, which can elicit the cognitive processing of learners. However, most e-learning systems nowadays are resources-oriented instead of process-oriented. These systems were designed without adequate support of pedagogical principles to guide the learning process. They have not explained the sequence of how the knowledge was acquired, which, in fact, is extremely important to the quality of learning. This study aims to develop an e-learning environment that enables students to get engaged in their learning process by guiding and customizing their learning process in an adaptive way. The expected performance of the Agent-based e-learning Process model is also evaluated by comparing with traditional e-learning models.

<em></em></p><p> </p><p><em><strong>Abstract</strong></em></p><p><em><em>Computer-based Learning Management Systems (LMS) are commonly used in educational institutions, including universities. An LMS records and manages user access logs in an event log. Data in an event log can be analysed to understand patterns in the LMS usage to support recommendations for improvements. One promising method is process mining, which is a process-based data analytics working on event logs. Process mining aims to discover process models as recorded in the LMS, conformance checking of process execution to the defined procedure, and suggest improvements. This paper explores the feasibility of Telkom University LMS usage data to be analysed using process mining. To the best of our knowledge, there was no previous research doing process-based data analytics on this LMS. This paper contributes to explore opportunities to analyse learning processes and enhance LMS-based learning methods. The feasibility study is based on a data component checklist for process mining. This paper is written following the main stages on the Process Mining Project Methodology (PM2). We explore a case study of the learning process of a course in a semester, based on an event log extracted from the LMS. The results show that data analytics on this LMS can be used to analyse learning process performance in Telkom University, based on different user roles. This feasibility study is concluded with a discussion on the feasibility of the LMS to be analysed using process mining, an evaluation by the representative of the LMS expert team, and a recommendation for improvements.</em></em></p>

This chapter represents as a practical follow-up or implementation of the main components of the SPMaAF described in Chapter 5. In the experimental setup, the chapter demonstrates by using the case study of the learning process: the development and application of the semantic-based process mining. Essentially, the chapter looks at how the proposed semantic-based process mining and analysis framework (SPMaAF) is applied to answer real-time questions about any given process domain, as well as the classification of the individual process instances or elements that constitutes process models. This includes the semantic representations and modelling of the learning process in order to allow for an abstraction analysis of the resultant models. The chapter finalizes with a conceptual description of the resultant semantic fuzzy mining approach which is discussed in detail in the next chapter.

The learning process in madrasas (Islamic-based elementary schools) is seen as being able to contribute to instilling values and norms in students following Islamic teachings. The issue of organizational culture and teacher performance also becomes a determining factor in creating a quality learning process. In this research, the aim is to determine: 1) the effect of organizational culture on the quality of the learn-ing process; 2) the effect of teacher performance on the quality of the learning process; and 3) the influ-ence of organizational culture on teacher performance. Respondents in this study were all class teachers from three madrasas as a sample representing all public madrasas in the city of Bandar Lampung, Indo-nesia. The results obtained indicate that the variables of organizational culture and the quality of the learning process have an influence, with R squared of 0.67 or 67%, which is classified as moderate. This shows that madrassas have implemented predetermined work culture values, namely: a) integrity, the harmony between correct thoughts, words, and deeds; b) professionalism, working in a disciplined, competent, and timely manner with the best results; c) innovation, perfecting existing and creating new and improved techniques and ideas; d) responsibility, working thoroughly and with thought for the con-sequences; and e) being exemplary, setting a good example for others.
