The results of an experimental study conducted in a full-scale high rate pond system treating piggery wastewater at Jianfengshan Piggery, Panyu City, Guandong Province, are presented. The system consists of two advanced anaerobic ponds (AAP) in parallel, followed by an anaerobic transformation pond (ATP) and a five-cell algae-bacterial pond (ABP). The mechanism of the AAP is described and the hydraulic flow pattern analyzed. Fermentation pits (FP) built on the bottom performed very efficiently, operating like UASB in principle. A new concept of ATP is advanced, based on its ability to transform poorly degradable materials to more easily degradable ones. It was found in the study that the HRP system was more efficient, more reliable and saved 40% land area compared with a conventional pond system. Economic analyses of both the energy consumption and the benefit to the pond system of fish farming are also included in the paper.

In the context of a world energy crisis, the only solution to control the situation is in the management of energy. One of the most important management keys is the optimization of electrical components. This article presents a complete numerical and experimental study aiming for the optimization of electrical water heaters for household use. The optimization conceives the minimization of energy consumption simultaneously with the minimization of time to heat water. Firstly, a thermal model well adapted for the case of heaters is constructed and validated experimentally and then a parametric study is conducted covering all the input power, the volume and the external area of the heater. Results are promising, showing significant energy savings are possible with an optimum setting of these parameters, thus presenting a firm tool for the optimization of heaters.

The lighting performance of top lighting solar light pipe in the meeting room in winter in Beijing has been measured under sunny and cloudy conditions to analyze whether the top solar light pipe can satisfy the general jobs lighting or not. The results showed that the indoor maximum and minimum illuminance were 163.2 lux and 115.4 lux respectively and the average illuminance was 147.8 lux in one day. The simulated average illuminance is 113lx in the same experimental time. It can satisfy the design criteria requirements and generally meet the basic for the meeting rooms. The light pipe can be the accessorial illuminance equipment to substitute partial or total artificial light sources in daily life to decrease the energy consumption of lighting.

In this article, through changing the parameters of the slenderness ratio lambda and axial compression ratio of n, the eight experimental study of steel tube concrete bending members with circular cross section. To explore different slenderness ratio of lambda concrete-filled steel tube under low cycle loading, the damage form of artifacts, deflection change, the relationship between the load and strain, load (P) and displacement (Δ) curve, the axial deformation and stiffness degradation curve, displacement ductility coefficient and the change of parameters such as energy consumption, thus further elastic-plastic seismic response analysis of concrete filled steel tubular structures. Got by test data of load P - displacement Δ relation curve and stiffness degradation curve, the displacement ductility coefficient, the total energy consumption. To get round steel tube reinforced concrete member seismic performance is good, the ductility damage.

A platform for sliding vane pump and centrifugal pump tests is installed to study the series operation of them under different characteristics of pipeline. Firstly, the sliding vane pump and the centrifugal pump work independently, and the performance is recorded. Then, the two types of pumps are combined together, with the sliding vane pump acting as the feeding pump. Comparison is made between the performance of the independently working pump and the performance of series operation pump. Results show that the system flow rate is determined by the sliding vane pump. In order to ensure the stability of the series operation pumping system, the energy consumption required by the pipeline under the system flow should be greater than the pressure energy centrifugal pump can generate. Otherwise, the centrifugal pump can not operate stably, with reflux, swirl, gas-liquid two-phase flow in the runner and strong vibration and noise. The sliding vane pump can be in serial operation with the centrifugal pump under limited conditions.
