Abstract Two new 2H-pyran-2-one glucosides, cuscutarosides A (1) and B (2), and one new steroidal glucoside, 7β-methoxy-β-sitosterol 3-O-β-glucopyranoside (3), together with 12 known compounds (4–15) were isolated from the whole plant of Cuscuta reflexa (Convolvulaceae) collected from Myanmar. The chemical structures of these new compounds were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analysis. The antiobesity activity of these isolates was evaluated using porcine pancreatic lipase (PPL), and the antiplatelet aggregation activity was screened using rabbit platelets induced by thrombin, platelet-activating factor (PAF), arachidonate (AA), or collagen. 7β-Methoxy-β-sitosterol 3-O-β-glucopyranoside (3) showed weak PPL inhibitory activity. Cuscutaroside A (1), its acetylated derivative (1a), and scrophenoside B (8) showed weak inhibitory activity against rabbit platelet aggregation induced by collagen. Compound 1a also showed inhibitory activity against rabbit platelet aggregation induced by AA. Graphic Abstract

Ginkgolides are the major active component of Ginkgo biloba for inhibition of platelet activating factor receptor. An azide-alkyne Huisgen cycloaddition reaction was used to introduce a triazole nucleus into the target ginkgolide molecules. A series of ginkgolide-1,2,3-triazole conjugates with varied functional groups including benzyl, phenyl and heterocycle moieties was thus synthesized. Many of the designed derivatives showed potent antiplatelet aggregation activities with IC50 values of 5~21 nM.

From the aqueous extract (Pc) of Petroselinum crispum (Mill) flat leaves specimens were isolated and identified the flavonoids apigenin (1), apigenin-7- O-glucoside or cosmosiin (2), apigenin-7- O-apiosyl-(1→2)- O-glucoside or apiin (3) and the coumarin 2″,3″-dihydroxy-furanocoumarin or oxypeucedanin hydrate (4). The inhibitory activity toward clotting formation and platelet aggregation was assessed for Pc flavonoids (1) and (2), and the coumarin (4). Pc showed no inhibition on clotting activity when compared with the control. On the other hand, a strong antiplatelet aggregation activity was observed for Pc (IC50 = 1.81 mg/mL), apigenin (IC50 = 0.036 mg/mL) and cosmosiin (IC50 = 0.18 mg/mL). In all cases ADP was used as inductor of platelet aggregation. Our results showed that Pc, apigenin and cosmosiin interfere on haemostasis inhibiting platelet aggregation. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report for the cosmosiin antiplatelet aggregation in vitro activity.

Taxotrophis ilicifolius, called "Gai quít" in Vietnam, belonged to the family of Moraceae. The stems of T. ilicifolius are used in traditional medicine to cure pimples, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial... By column chromatography method together with thin layer chromatography on the ethyl acetate extract of its stems, six compounds were isolated including wogonin (1), 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (2), vanillic acid (3), vanillin (4), syringic acid (5), and syringaldehyde (6). Their chemical structures were elucidated by extensive NMR spectroscopic analysis and comparison with the literature data. The isolated compounds were tested fora-glucosidase inhibitory activity. All compounds showed more potent inhibitory activity with IC50 values 42–142 mM, than that of a positive control acarbose (IC50, 214.5 mM). Among all isolates, compounds 2, 4 and 6 exhibited significant a-glucosidase inhibitory activity with the IC50 values of 49.7, 42.6 and 55.9 mM, respectively. From the present investigation, all these compounds were isolated for the first time as well as their a-glucosidase inhibitoryactivity of T. ilicifolius. These results suggested that the traditional use of T. ilicifolius for the treatment of diabetes disease in Vietnam may be due to thea-glucosidase inhibitory activity of its phenolic constituents.

Aim: This study aims to find out the components responsible for the antithrombotic activity of Nelumbo nucifera. Material and Methods: Petroleum ether, chloroform and hydroalcoholic extracts of whole plant of Nelumbo nucifera (Lotus) were prepared and assessed for its thrombolytic, anti-platelet aggregation activity and bleeding time. The extracts were further analyzed through HPTLC and GC-MS. Statistical analysis was conducted through ANOVA trailed by Tukey’s multiple comparison test test. Results: Hydroalcoholic extract showed the highest activity at the concentration of 400µg/ml in thrombolytic assay (42.03 ± 5.76), anti-platelet aggregation assay (57.93 ± 1.68) and bleeding time (70.17 ± 2.16) in comparison to clopodigrel (33.76 ± 3.43), aspirin (66.55 ± 1.86) and aspirin (93.85 ± 2.75) at the concentration of 100 µg/ml respectively. 25 peaks were identified through GC-MS, out of which, ferulic acid (14.2µ/g) and quercetin (5.4 µ/g) are active chemical compounds. HPTLC showed different chromatograms in hydroalcoholic extracts like (1) chlorogenic, (2) quercetin, (3) benzoic acid, (4) caffeic acid, (5) ferulic acid, (6) kaempferol, and (7) gallic acid. Conclusion: Based on these findings, flavonoids present in hydroalcoholic extract may be developed into a drug for clinical application for the treatment of thrombosis in patients.

AbstractTwo new triterpenes and five new triterpene saponins, named ilexpusons A–G (1–7), as well as eight known compounds were isolated from Ilex pubescens. The structures of the new compounds were established by a combination of chemical and spectroscopic methods, including HRESIMS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, 1H-1H COSY, HSQC, HMBC, and NOESY. Additionally, the biological activity of compounds 1 – 15 against adenosine diphosphate-induced platelet aggregation in rabbit plasma was determined. Among the tested compounds, 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 13, 14, and 15 exhibited significant inhibition of platelet aggregation in vitro.

Solanum procumbens L. is a medicinal plant belonging to the Solanaceae family. In Vietnam, it is known as "Ca gai leo", and it cultivated in some tropical countries in China, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. From the stem of the ethyl acetate extract of Solanum procumbens, we had isolated one anthraquinone (1), four polyphenols (2-5), and one indole (6). By spectroscopic methods as well as comparing with data in the literature, their chemical structures were elucidated as ziganein (1), benzoic acid (2), salicylic acid (3), 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde (4), vanillic acid (5), and indole-3-carbaldehyde (6). These compounds were isolated for the first time from the genus Solanum.

From the whole plant of Isodon ternifolius collected in Vietnam, four triterpens including ursaldehyde (1), ursolic acid (2), b-sitosterol (3) and b-sitosteryl ferulate (4) were purified. Their chemical structures were determined by interpretation of NMR and MS data and comparison with the literatures. Compounds 1-4 were evaluated for their inhibitory activity against PTP1B enzyme activity using in vitro assay. Compounds 1 and 2 displayed potential activities with IC50 values of 16.92 ± 0.12 and 3.42 ± 0.45 μM, respectively. This is the first time that compounds 1 and 4 have been isolated from the Isodon genus and I. ternifolius has been evaluated for the PTP1B inhibitory activity.
