Campus building was a place to accommodate various educational activities, which were both carried out indoors and outdoors. The environment, including the building and its exterior, provided thermal comfort that was influenced by the context, such as the mass of the facility, vegetation, and constructing envelope materials. The microclimate also influenced the environment, such as temperature, wind speed, and humidity. This study aimed to investigate the outdoor thermal comfort of campus building in urban area during summer, while also identifying the influential factors. This research referred to a case study, examining the thermal quality of the educational building environment using ENVI-met software, based on the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) index as an indicator of outdoor thermal comfort, in Universitas Kebangsaan (UK). The results showed that the outdoor environment had low thermal comfort conditions during the day, as it also had different thermal satisfactory situations, due to differences in physical characteristics in each zone. This characteristics included, (1) The SVF determinant as indicators of the shading factor should be supported by the presence of vegetation and the use of pavement material, (2) Although the wind speed factor does not really affect the thermal comfort in the outdoor space, the interconnection between open gaps is likely to make breeze distribution in the area better. This study offered direction for campus planning, in order to maintain the optimal capacity of the natural environment, such as (1) Strategizing to create a better shadowing factor in the outer space, which was supported by controlling the use of pavement materials, (2) Directing the density of buildings by making open spaces more permeable, in order for better wind distribution in the area. From this study, the campus current conditions and future design development potential was also observed.

Within the scope of the study, thermal comfort analysis was performed using the ENVI-met program of the Misak-ı Milli Square in Safranbolu, and it was determined that the thermal comfort perception of the square as slighty warm-warm. For this reason, a new design proposal has been submitted for the square. In the proposal, the green ratio and the number of trees was increased, the type and location of the trees was changed. The flooring materials was replaced with a stone covering with a higher albedo and new functional suggestions were made for the square. As a result of the thermal comfort analysis of the new proposal, the thermal comfort perception in the square was neutral and the thermal dissatisfaction rate was reduced below 14.5%. In result of the study, it was underlined that the ratio of green areas and the tree type, number and location that constitute it and the choice of flooring materials are important parameters in providing the thermal comfort of the square.

Many countries propose indoor temperature set-points of air-conditioned offices to be comfortably sustainable and to reduce energy consumption. Even though there are recommendations for the optimum temperatureset-points, it is questionable how those values could be applied to the actual situation in a tropical region. This study aims to survey thermal performance and estimate thermal comfort in different set-points. In 2019, two air-conditioned office buildings were tested by increasing set-points from the actual value between 23 °C and 25 °C. Data loggers measuring thermal variables were installed in the offices and the questionnaire was distributed to evaluate human response. Considering the ASHRAE psychometric chart, thermal environments of both cases on the day of a normal set-point were low; falling inside in the 1.0 clo zone. Thermal environments gradually moved from the 1.0 clo zone to the 0.5 clo zone, however, some of them were out of both comfort zones due to high absolute humidity. The predicted mean vote (PMV) and the thermal sensation vote (TSV) show that the votes changed from the cold side to the neutral side, and the higher acceptance rate was at warmer temperatures. The comfort temperature calculated from Griffith’s method was found to be 23.6–25.1 °C which was lower than the measured operative temperature. Adaptive clothing behavior is described to confirm a better condition at warmer temperatures. A possibility of increasing cooling set-points at 24–25 °C is applicable to office buildings in the tropics to remain comfortable.

Abstract Regarding the significant impact of visibility, landscape, and thermal comfort on the presence of users’ attendance in urban parks, there is a severe interest in studies on the amount of visibility and the outdoor thermal comfort especially in a district with hot summers. this research, after investigating the shafagh park based on space laws and the relationship between park spaces with each other in terms of accessibility and visibility to achieve the effect of plants, then, based on the obtained data, the role of plants in evaluating thermal comfort conditions in the park space was investigated and finally, their relationship with each other has been examined. results have revealed that, plants have an undeniable role in improving the conditions of thermal comfort and visual visibility and user movement in spaces, so that, the best points in terms of thermal comfort, had a favorable view and perspective, while, areas of the park that did not have good visibility and landscape did not experience favorable conditions in terms of thermal comfort. Therefore, architects, landscape architects, and urban designers who research the problem of thermal comfort and landscape analysis in urban parks can use the findings of this article for effective outcomes, especially in parks with climatic conditions use similar in Tehran.
