A key element of exploitation processes constitutes maintenance operations and tasks. While being conducted in the proper way, they have a crucial effect on achieving the assumed by aircraft designer and operator goals. Properly conducted maintenance operations allow to meet all the technical objects readiness requirements as well as to achieve desired acceptable risk level. Maintenance system effectiveness might be generally a crucial task for company or entity responsible for the maintenance. In this context, particularly relevant become technical object maintenance procedures and tasks developed by their manufacturers. Experience of the article authors quite early shows the need of the mainte-nance programmes modification. Aircraft manufacturers usually are not so eager to develop and implement mainte-nance programme modifications. Presented situation is very much the case in aviation transport. This was the reason why authors of this article decided to prepare and develop this elaboration which might constitute the assistance and supports complex technical objects users in maintenance decision. The main purpose of this article is to present maintenance decisions’ supporting method for the aircraft operators. This article provides guidelines which include a description of risk in the context of aviation maintenance and introduction of some methodologies, tools and criteria that support identification, analysis and evaluation of risk. Authors included idea, how the aircraft preventive maintenance could be used to mitigate aircraft failure risk during flight operations. It also shows how to adopt and develop effective maintenance program using tools for adequate risk analysis, optimal interval assignments, and selection of the most effective maintenance task. Authors presented methodology and de-scribed steps of the logic diagram analysis for the aircraft systems and their components, in order to manage and adopt aircraft maintenance program to fulfil aircraft airworthiness requirements and operational availability. The whole methodology was described on the basis of the F 16 aircraft maintenance system and with reference to the maintenance data. This article might also constitute an introduction to the aircraft maintenance programme development method.

Quick-and-accurate decision is a primary requirement for achieving a mission’s successfulness in many organizations whether they are militaries or civilians.  The larger and more complex the scope of a mission the longer the time will be needed to perform decision-making. A complex mission such as retaining a sustainable mission of aircrafts deployed in certain remote bases will require a 24-hour of standby on-site or off-site maintenance teams. The most common problem arisen from humans in such situations is the fatigue that can occur anytime to any of them during a continuing mission and of course, it can affect the continuity of the mission and delay or disappoint the mission achievement. In this paper we address the concept of the utilization of Multiagent Collaborative Computation (MCC) paradigm in supporting the decision-making process in aircrafts maintenance during a sustainable mission in remote bases. The ultimate goal of the MCC-based aircraft maintenance system is comprehensive information regarding the maintenance procedures in order to keep the aircrafts serviceable during the mission implementation. In this paper we also present the technique to obtain the comprehensive information as the basis for decision-making called A3S (Arwin-Adang-Aciek-Sembiring) information-inferencing fusion method

The development of the aviation transport system is characterized by sophistication of interacting objects, the multi-criteria nature of the tasks to be solved and difficulties in making management decisions. For example, modern medium haul aircraft are fitted with up to 25,000 sensors to monitor the performance capabilities of functional systems components. Numerous ground-based instrumental methods and means of diagnosing the technical condition are used. This requires the development of methods and algorithms for determining and monitoring the criteria of limiting state of the monitored components and functional systems of aeronautical equipment. In this regard, analytical models of predictive estimate for the technical condition of aeronautical equipment, determination of aircraft maintenance modes and provision of spare parts and materials become essential. The paper proposes a scheme of the aircraft fleet maintenance system modeling algorithm and deducing the mathematical model of the optimal number of aircraft states in order to exclude secondary and subjective factors. The method of statistical modeling based on Markov processes with discrete states and continuous time is the basis of the proposed analytical model. The proposed method is reduced to the synthesis of some modeling algorithm of the investigated process that simulates the complex system components behavior and interaction as well as random perturbing factors. A distinctive feature of the presented algorithm is determination of the predominant estimated dependences of transition probabilities and intensities taking into account the requirements of the modern regulatory framework in terms of reliability of equipment and diagnosing the technical condition. The analysis of the predominant estimated dependencies study results in the conditions of operation of the aircraft maintenance system confirmed a high degree of correlation of the time duration effect on the particular states in order to diagnose the technical condition depending on the diagnostic concept. The proposed simulation model can be used for the aircraft technical condition predictive estimate, aircraft gas turbine engines and functional systems.

In recent times, spare parts inventory systems have been extensively researched, but most inventory models were not fully adequate due to the stochastic nature of inventory environment. This paper proposes an approach that supports decision making process in planning and controlling of spare parts in aircraft maintenance systems. Reliability characteristics of aircraft consumable parts were analyzed in order to substantiate this approach. Moreover, the proposed reliability model was used to evaluate characteristics of subassemblies and/or assemblies these parts belong to. Finally, an innovative approach for determining the total amount of parts required in inventory and underage costs, based on observing the total unit time as a stochastic process, is presented herein.

The features of the triangle of mutual influence of the basic diagnostic principles are analyzed depending on the known strategies of maintenance and repair, taking into account modern in-formation technologies. Two options for the interaction of the diagnostic support of the object with its maintenance system are investigated. Various aspects of the relationship between the degradation representation of the diagnostic object and the existing maintenance and repair strategies are considered. The functional capabilities of two information platforms for organiz-ing maintenance systems ("Galaxy EAM" and "1C: RCM Reliability Management") are evalu-ated in relation to diagnostic tasks.

The equipment reliability plays a critical role in business success because degradation in equipment condition negatively impacts plants’ output. When Toyota Motor Corporation operates overseas plants, equipment reliability management is one of the most important hurdles for global production which has to be overcome. It is important to develop an equipment reliability management program to minimize support from Japan to let overseas plants become self-reliant.This article explains how the Advanced TPS can be applied specifically to the equipment reliability process with equipment owner Total Production Maintenance (TPM). This business process focuses on managing equipment reliability to meet the business goals of Toyota Manufacturing USA.

As part of a continual search for potential pathogens of insects for use in biological control or on an integrated pest management program, two bacilliform virus-like particles (VLP) of similar morphology have been found in the Mexican bean beetle Epilachna varivestis Mulsant and the house cricket, Acheta domesticus (L. ).Tissues of diseased larvae and adults of E. varivestis and all developmental stages of A. domesticus were fixed according to procedures previously described. While the bean beetles displayed no external symptoms, the diseased crickets displayed a twitching and shaking of the metathoracic legs and a lowered rate of activity.Examinations of larvae and adult Mexican bean beetles collected in the field in 1976 and 1977 in Maryland and field collected specimens brought into the lab in the fall and reared through several generations revealed that specimens from each collection contained vesicles in the cytoplasm of the midgut filled with hundreds of these VLP's which were enveloped and measured approximately 16-25 nm x 55-110 nm, the shorter VLP's generally having the greater width (Fig. 1).
