This research is based on the result of science learning of grade VI students of SD Negeri 018 Kubang JayaKecamatan Siak Hulu Kabupaten Kampar which is still very low. This study aims to improve science learningoutcomes. From the data analysis, there was an increase of both teacher activity, student activity, and studentlearning result. The teacher activity at the 1st cycle meeting percentage was 70% (good) and at the 2nd meetingincreased 5% to 75% (good). In the second cycle of the meeting 3 teacher activities increased 10% from 75%(good) to 85% (very good) and at meeting 4 increased 10% from 85% (very good) to 95% (very good). Judgingfrom the student activity also increased from the 1st meeting of cycle I was 65% (enough) and at meeting 2increased 15% to 80% (good). In the second cycle of meeting 3 it increases 5% from 80% (good) to 85% (verygood) and at meeting 4 increases 10% from 85% (very good) to 95% (very good). Judging from the results of thestudents also experienced preningkat, from the average score of students on a basic score of 62.78. after the firstcycle the student's average score increased to 79.44 with an increase of 16.66 points from the baseline score. Inthe second cycle student learning outcomes also increased as much as 11.67 points from cycle I with averagestudent's grade 91.11. From the data analysis there is an increase both from teacher activity, student activity,and student learning outcomes. It can be concluded that the advancement of contextual learning can improve thelearning outcomes of science students of grade 6 of SD Negeri 018 Kubang Jaya Kecamatan Siak HuluKabupaten Kampar.

The ultimate reward of a degree program is the graduation. Class of the degree is also an aspect associated with the graduation. Both graduation and class of degree are the indicators of academic performances of a graduate. Academic achievement of a graduate is affected by many factors. Hence, graduation and class of degree of a graduate also may be dependent on the same factors. A belief is among academic community that obtaining a degree in some streams are rather difficult compared with some other. That is graduation is dependent on stream of study. This study was carried out to see whether graduation in science depends on the streams (biological, physical) of science studies in Eastern University, Sri Lanka. Further, effect of streams on class of degree also was aimed to investigate. This study was carried out by using all students in a batch, of size of 109 that recently completed studies from Faculty of Science, Eastern University, Sri Lanka. The analysis was based on number of students who qualified for the graduation and the class of degree. Statistical techniques such as proportion test, chi square test, odds ratio, relative risk, logistic regression and ANOVA test were used for the analysis. Study reveals that graduation and class of degree is dependent on streams of science studies. Proportions of physical science students who qualified for graduation and the lowest class of degree are less than the corresponding proportions of biological science stream students. Stream for higher education should be selected carefully and action should be taken accordingly to promote the stream/subjects that students omit. Further, factors behind this variation also might be investigated.

This study aimed to describe the effectiveness of collaborative learning using open-ended approach and open-ended approach in terms of problem solving skillss students. This study is a quasi-experimental research with the entire population of ten graduate science students of SMA Negeri 2 Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta which consists of four classes. The research samples were randomly selected from the four existing classes, in order to obtain class X MIPA 3 to be given collaborative learning model using open-ended approach and class X MIPA 1 to be given open-ended approach. Data analysis technique consists of one sample t-test used to investigate the effectiveness of collaborative learning model using open-ended approach and open-ended approach. The results show that collaborative learning model using open-ended approach is effective in terms of student’s problem solving skillss of SMA Negeri 2 Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta. But, open-ended approach isn’t effective in terms of student’s problem solving skillss of SMA Negeri 2 Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta.
