Abstract Oil and gas companies’ future production profile is shaped by their exploration strategy and resource base development. Gazprom Neft's production profile will include 40% of current exploration projects by 2030. Geological exploration, on the other hand, is a high-risk business because it involves a lot of uncertainty due to the geological complexity of the targets being explored, as well as a lot of risky capital. Taking these factors into account, the Company will need to expand its exploration function as well as its approaches to managing exploration projects in order to meet its lofty aims. To determine the key areas of growth and a strategy for the exploration function development in the coming years, it was decided to first analyze the geological exploration activity in the Company in 2010 – 2020 period. The knowledge of achievements, success stories, and development areas is the fulcrum for future victories. Therefore, retrospective analysis is an important tool for the development of any system of activity - individual, organization, or state.

Russia is the largest country in the world and occupies one of the leading places on the planet in terms of natural resources, but the bulk of deposits were explored to some extent more than a quarter of a century ago, back in the Soviet era. Due to the changes in the sources of financing for the reproduction of mineral resources and geological exploration of the subsurface, qualitative and quantitative indicators are reduced by an order of magnitude, which leads to greater risks in the development of mineral deposits. Even despite the large number of scientific papers, the economic situation forces us to search for more modern and multi-parametric methods for evaluating the efficiency of mining. The article considers the main economic methods for evaluating the efficiency of mining, determines their essence and application features. On the basis of conducted analysis, disadvantages and advantages of using the studied methods were identified, and the author's interpretation of the economic assessment of efficiency of mining resources was given.

The article discusses the issues of evaluating the effectiveness of organizing exploration drilling based on a separate service. A methodological approach is presented and an assessment of the efficiency of using a separate service is given in comparison with various methods of organizing exploration drilling, including those based on the principles of outsourcing. The results obtained can be applied in the development of organizational and management solutions to optimize the system for attracting service organizations at oil and gas enterprises.

The features of the deep structure of the eastern part of the Caspian depression, the patterns of placement of large carbonate complexes, which are associated with the main accumulations of oil and gas, are considered. The discovery of industrial accumulation of oil in the Lower Permian terrigenous sediments on the Akzhar Eastern area showed the possibility of carbonaceous carbonate deposits of carbon to be the object of prospecting and exploration. Oil deposits in the supersalt complex of sediments on the structures of Karatube South and Saigak are assumed to be formed due to the vertical flow from subsalt clay-carbonate sediments, which also allows us to count on the expansion of prospecting works and to focus on the east of the Caspian depression a new direction geological exploration (DGE).

Secondary changes in reservoir rocks in the territory of Western Siberia have a regional distribution pattern, and the amount of oil and gas resources, that are in these zones, reaches 30 % of their total number. Part of the objects where the secondary changes are most clearly manifested, has not yet been introduced into the development, what requires a more detailed approach to planning and conducting geological exploration work in perspective areas, where pore space is modified by secondary processes. In this work the main factors that control the distribution of the main types of secondary changes in reservoir rocks were identified: lithofacies, chemical and tectonic.

Changed marketing and economy-ambiental conditions of planning, realization and evaluation of the geological exploration, order quantitative different approach in which are integral implied geology important elements of the deposit of mineral row materials, based the genetic characteristics and marketing necessary question of economy payfull. The conditions and the way of origin the deposit, respectively genetic characteristics, directly across the geological specific of the deposits reflect on the conception and methodology of their geological exploration. On the other side, the changed market conditions, after made community political changes in Serbia, together with the transition problems, in the first plan propound the profitability of the geological work and the results of the geological explorations. In such economy-economic defined conditions of the valorization of mineral resources of Serbia, especially important role has the connected genetic and geological–economic modelling of the deposits of the mineral row materials.
