Research is a logical and systematic approach to investigate or find solutions to scientific and social problems. The research is primarily carried out to discover new facts, to verify and test important facts, and to analyze an event or process. Research is carried out with the help of study, experiment, observation, analysis, comparison, and reasoning. Research is important both in scientific and nonscientific fields. There are two types of research: basic and applied. Basic research is an investigation on basic principles and reasons for occurrence of a particular event or process or phenomenon. Applied research solves certain problems employing well-known and accepted theories and principles. The research process is carried out through series of steps. Research methods are the various procedures, schemes, and algorithms used in research. The research methodology is a systematic way to solve a problem. It is a science of studying how research is to be carried out.

Universities have begun to officially recognize advancing sustainability as an institutional goal. This paper reports on research on students’ awareness, attitudes, and behaviors at the University of Vermont as a means of understanding cultural acceptance of sustainability. We report on the results of a survey administered by an applied research methods class working in partnership with the University’s Office of Sustainability. Survey respondents report strong understanding of sustainability and believe it is important. They perceive the University’s performance as strongest along environmental efforts and weakest along economic lines. Respondents were most likely to engage in sustainability behaviors, like waste and energy reduction, and least likely to attend campus events regarding sustainability. Responses to open-ended questions suggest skepticism of the University’s commitment to sustainability, seeing it as more of a marketing effort, and express a desire for more concrete initiatives to foster sustainable behaviors and culture on campus. Our implications focus on ways to promote a more holistic and nuanced understanding of sustainability.

Abstract Skid resistance properties of airfield pavements substantially affect the safety of the conducted aircraft operations. The evaluation of these properties is not limited to the measurements of friction coefficient defining the friction state of pavement, but also includes the measurements of texture depth of pavement (micro- and macro-texture). The authors focused on the currently applied research methods used to assess the skid resistance properties of airfield pavements. In addition, the requirements in this field and the assessment criteria of the obtained results were also addressed. Example results of field tests and their short analysis were also presented. Besides, it was stressed the direction of further works conducted by the authors, which concerns the development of the research method used to assess the skid resistance properties of airfield pavements, precisely in the field of the measurement of texture depth of pavements.

Article deploys the application of Cooperative Principle in analyzing the dialogues in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. The applied research methods were qualitative and quantitative methods. The dialogue of the play were transferred in the form of excerpts to the computer manually. Then the pplication of The Non-observance of the Conversational Maxims was analyzed and its occurences are counted. It is found that The Non-observance of the Conversational Maxims are applied in the play. The categories of The Non-observance of the Conversational Maxims that are applied are flouting the maxims, violating the maxims, and opting out a maxim. The most frequent category of The Non-observance of the Conversational Maxims is flouting quality by using metaphor while the least frequent one is flouting quantity.

Background: The increase in the competitiveness on the sports market forces elaboration of the proper organization structure in sports clubs. In 2011 Lech Poznan Club found itself in a situation which was inadequate to its ambition. The aim of this work is to present the influence of the implemented organization structure changes on the process of club management. Material and methods: The subject of the research was the Lech Poznan club and its organization structure between 2011 and 2014. The applied research methods were the interview and the survey questionnaire. Results: The introduction and the strategy realization, as well as the clear distribution of tasks were visible in the process of the changes in the organization structures. The success of those actions may be verified on the basis of the results of the end of season 2014/15. Conclusions: The conducted research shows that the Lech Poznan football club experienced transformation between 2011 and 2014. This transformation was adequate to the current trends of the sports club management, and it has permitted the club to win the Polish football championship.

The aim of this applied research, conducted for Alaska’s Department of Fish and Game, is to examine how residents, both Native and non-Native, of an “urban” Alaskan community harvest and use wild foods. At the time, most research on “subsistence” (or household provisioning) was conducted in small villages with majority Native populations. The goal is to provide baseline data that will be used by the ADF&G and other government bodies to manage Alaska’s wild resources. The chapter discusses designing and administering a random household survey and the synergy that can exist between quantitative and qualitative research methods.

It is evident that traditional research methods are going to change. The research should be based on the possibility of quick access to information, interactivity and interaction of participants in search for information, elimination of temporal and spatial obstacles. Everything mentioned above requires the use of new research technologies, including blockchain technology. This technology allows solving the problems of collection and systematization of scientific data, access to it within the framework of project operation and implementation at any organization, and joint efforts of various structures. Data saved in blocks and stored on different servers can be accessed by different users. It reduces the cost of coordinating the actions of different users who want to obtain certain information. This article explores how blockchain technology is changing traditional methods of applied research in bioinformatics.
