Research is a logical and systematic approach to investigate or find solutions to scientific and social problems. The research is primarily carried out to discover new facts, to verify and test important facts, and to analyze an event or process. Research is carried out with the help of study, experiment, observation, analysis, comparison, and reasoning. Research is important both in scientific and nonscientific fields. There are two types of research: basic and applied. Basic research is an investigation on basic principles and reasons for occurrence of a particular event or process or phenomenon. Applied research solves certain problems employing well-known and accepted theories and principles. The research process is carried out through series of steps. Research methods are the various procedures, schemes, and algorithms used in research. The research methodology is a systematic way to solve a problem. It is a science of studying how research is to be carried out.

Research means searching for knowledge by utilizing appropriate scientific and systematic approach. It presumes the status of human voyage for the discovery by exploring ones inquisitive urge to gain knowledge over the unidentified aspects connected to life. Research aim to acquire new knowledge or expansion of existing information through some value additions. Varied forms of research methods are adopted to find appropriate solutions for diversified problems of the society. The decision on the application of Basic and Applied research can be better done on the scrutiny of nature of prevailing problem and its solutions. Knowledge domain would get stagnated unless new practical discoveries are conducted with the help of applied research. Even though all basic research will not lead to create new knowledge, it certainly helps to identify new application for conducting applied research on the existing problems by providing required tools and raw materials for the study intern deliver utilitarian benefits to the society. This study puts light on the implications of basic as well as applied research methodologies by reviewing into its evolution, features, steps, merits and demerits. It also tries to distinguish between basic research and applied research focusing upon its utility aspects.

The proliferation of images and their increased use in academic and everyday information practices has sparked an interest in visual literacy as an area of research and library instruction. Teaching approaches and student learning are examined using a variety of research methods and utilizing images in the research process. This paper provides a review of research methodology adopted in empirical studies of visual literacy that were published in academic journals between 2011 and 2017. The results indicate that one third (33%) of the examined studies adopted a quantitative approach with surveys being the most popular strategy. Qualitative and mixed-methods studies were a minority but represented a greater variety of strategies and data collection techniques. One third (33%) of the studies in the sample did not report any research methodology. Most of the studies (87%) used visual evidence in the research process.

Research is the process of search for unknown knowledge. Research methodology is the general approach a researcher takes during research process. Research methodology is defined as the specific techniques & procedures required to identify, select, process and analyze a research problem. Various tools and tech-niques are required for research. In Ayurveda valid knowledge is termed as Prama and the means or source to acquire knowledge are known as Pramana. These Pramanas are the evidence of the critical sci-entific approach of Ayurveda. Pramanas are the tools of Research in Ayurveda. Pramanas can be of great importance in developing Ayurvedic Research Methodology. Present paper is aimed to explore the scope & importance of Pramanas described in Ayurvedic literature in Ayurvedic Research Methodology.

This chapter presents the methodology of this study and the rationale for using qualitative interviewing as the preferred approach. It discusses the practicalities of the research methodology, including the processes of developing an interview framework, engaging participants and analysing research material using Grounded Theory. This is followed by a discussion of the similarities and differences between the researchers and the researched, which are framed by notions of insider/outsider status. In this regard, we reflect upon how our positionality influenced the research process.

This article focuses on the triangulation of research methods and techniques in the discussion on the evaluation of marketing research. Research traditions in marketing can be referred to the division of research methodologies, according to which the methods of conceptual, theoretical, empirical and formal research is distinguished, based on the use of quantitative methods, mathematical and statistical models. In scientific research on marketing, conceptual methods (i.e. heuristic or creative methods) are used, with a primary focus on the analysis of qualitative aspects of the studied processes, thus making little reference to empirics. The methodology of empirical research in marketing is used to a great extent. It allows developing empirical models, thus making it possible to recognize, e.g. actually implemented models of marketing strategies that may be consistent with or deviate from the theoretical models. However, it should be noted that empirical models do not always have implementation properties, as they most often refer to the present or past reality. Nevertheless, these models may be subject to benchmarking. Moreover, they serve to make conceptual models more probable. For the further development of marketing, it becomes essential to increase the scope of application of formal research methodologies as well. The analysis of the literature indicates the need for an in-depth diagnosis of combined methods in the research process in the broader context of management sciences. The aim of the article is therefore expressed as a research problem in the form of the following question: Is methodological triangulation a prerequisite for research processes in the management sciences? The research results presented in this article are a fragment of complex study on research methodology. Moreover, the conducted empirical research confirms and theoretically proves that methodological triangulation is a necessary condition in research processes. In contrast, verification of developed methods, models or procedures is an essential condition allowing to combine science and management practice, while methodological triangulation supports research processes. Concerning the preceding, the author recommends in the present article to make a scientific effort aimed at elaborating a tool, method or procedure to select proper research methods and techniques for the research process within the scope of management science, with a particular emphasis on factors determining the process quality. Keywords: methods, research techniques, marketing research, triangulation, research methodology

In the discipline of Islamic law research, strong proofing and clear Istinbat method are key pillars in the construction of Islamic law based on the application of the science of usul al-fiqh and maqasid al-shari'ah. However, what happens at the state of Johor’s fatwa institution is the opposite. The fatwa research methods applied by the Fatwa Committee of Johor in resolving current fatwa issues is not based on the right and true discipline of Islamic law research. In fact, current inputs related to fatwa issues are not explicitly stated in the method of determining the law either in the form of reality or scientifically verified. Therefore, this paper will discuss the fatwa procedures undertaken by the Fatwa Committee of Johor based on the methods applied in resolving current issues. The research methodology adopted is library and interview methods. This study shows that fatwa management and production in the state of Johor is placed under the jurisdiction of the Mufti of Johor’s Department. The methods adopted by the Fatwa Committee of Johor covers two methods, namely: internal research methods including literature review through the application of original source and proofs based on syarak. Second: field research method that includes an external review or going to the location of study such as conducting observation, questionnaires and interviews including referrals to specialists of different fields. Maslahah and mafsdah consideration are also implemented by the Fatwa Committee in every fatwa decision based on the standard that meets the interests of maqasid al-shari'ah.
