Anticipating the learning consequences of actions is crucial to plan efficient information-seeking. Such a capacity is needed for learners to determine which actions are most likely to result in learning. Here, we tested the early ontogeny of the human capacity to anticipate the amount of learning gained from seeing. In Study 1, we tested infants’ capacity to anticipate the availability of sight. Fourteen-month-old infants (N = 72) were invited to search for a toy hidden inside a container. The participants were faster to attempt at opening a shutter when this action allowed them to see inside the container. Moreover, this effect was specifically observed when seeing inside the container was potentially useful to the participants’ goals. Thus, infants anticipated the availability of sight, and they calibrated their information-seeking behaviors accordingly. In Studies 2-3, we tested toddlers’ capacity to anticipate whether data would be cognitively useful for their goals. Two-and-a-half-year-olds (N = 72) had to locate a target character hidden among distractors. The participants flipped the characters more often, and were comparatively faster to initiate this action when it yielded access to visual data allowing them to locate the target. Thus, toddlers planned their information-seeking behaviors by anticipating the cognitive utility of sight. In contrast, toddlers did not calibrate their behaviors to the cognitive usefulness of auditory data. These results suggest that cognitive models of learning guide toddlers’ search for information. The early developmental onset of the capacity to anticipate future learning gains is crucial for active learning.

This paper explores the use of social media among Malaysians during the Covid-19 pandemic. Questionnaires were distributed to 424 people in Malaysia who were directly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. The research findings revealed that the main reasons that drove people to use social media were cognitive aspects, escapism, affective factors, and social integration. The data also shows that Malaysians frequently employed social media to search for information, for diversion purposes, and due to habit. Meanwhile, the highest levels of gratifications were derived from factors of convenience, surveillance, and interpersonal discussion. This study concludes that social media plays a crucial role for Malaysians while confronting the Covid-19 pandemic, alongside other media components. It cannot be denied that technology also influenced uses and gratifications among the audiences. The uniqueness of social media, coupled with the smartphone, gives it a distinct advantage over other media forms. The audiences had at their disposal a multitude of information that could bring numerous usages and forms of gratifications.

Social media are transforming relationships with customers for all sectors, including tourism. Since the search for information is a critical aspect of tourist purchase decision process, the importance of social media for tourism is evident. However, the presence of tourism brands in social media is not enough to have an impact on tourist purchase decisions: it is necessary to generate engagement. This chapter aims to conceptualize tourist engagement on social media and identify tourist engagement indicators. Tourist engagement was conceptualized through a literature review that identified four dimensions of engagement: popularity, commitment, virality, and post engagement. A set of indicators is proposed to measure tourist engagement in each of these dimensions. The proposed TSM engagement framework was validated through a mixed-method approach, using secondary data and interviews carried out with Brazilian tourist destinations.

AbstractWhereas the search for information when starting to plan a trip is generally perceived as enjoyable, families with a disabled child may associate this step with anxiety and stress. This is due to a lack of information and poor consideration of disabled children’s needs in most tourist websites, making it difficult for such families to find answers to their questions. In this context, the present research attempts to understand the online travel planning process of families with a child with a disability in order to propose solutions adapted to these families’ needs.

Introduction. The health of schoolchildren is the foundation for the educational process and the key to success in future work activities. The current level of development of technology and information technology allows you to bring health monitoring to a new, higher quality level. Purpose of the study: on the basis of a comparison of various historically established approaches to assessing the health of schoolchildren, to identify the main development trends and promising technologies suitable for determining the integral indicator of the health of schoolchildren. Research methodology and techniques. The research is theoretical. To search for information about innovative technologies, we analyzed scientific articles in Russian and English, taken from scientometric databases. As a result, we selected 14 technologies that were more consistent with the requirements of minimum time consumption, distance and invasiveness. Results. Technologies used in biomechanics, medicine, forensic science, navigation together can make it possible to comprehensively assess the psychological, neurodynamic, motor and energy components of schoolchildren's health. The most promising systems for assessing the health of schoolchildren are the following systems: an image processing system (technology for detecting and recognizing faces, technology for recognizing facial expressions and gestures), an optoelectronic measuring system (motion capture technology), an internal thermometry system (acoustothermometry), a navigation system, an electromagnetic measuring system, system of content analysis of Internet traffic, strain-dynamometric system, as well as neurotechnological system. The proposed approach requires significant information resources for the accumulation and automated processing of large amounts of information in a single analytical centre. The use of artificial intelligence algorithms will allow detecting hidden relationships of health indicators, assessing risks and giving personalized recommendations. On the basis of the information collected, it is planned to create an electronic passport of schoolchildren's health with further integration of this module into the domestic educational complex of an electronic student's diary.

The purpose of the article. Investigate the determination of the image of the pelican in Ukrainian culture and art as an original manifestation of national symbolics. Methodology. The research methodology is based on the application of a systems approach in combination with historical-genetic, comparative, and art methods, with the involvement of analysis of sources from the field of Ukrainian symbolism. The scientific novelty lies in the actualization of the study of the symbolic image of the pelican as a nationally specific component of Ukrainian culture. Conclusions. The representatives of the Ukrainian avifauna acquired in the popular imagination the forms of established symbolic images, that entered the space of national folklore through mythological thinking. The penetration of the pelican symbol into the arsenal of fine arts of Ukrainian culture did not pass through the mythological element but was borrowed from Christian cult publications and images of European countries. The oldest known images of the pelican in Ukraine belong to the artistic decoration of the book, and since the XVIII century, they are found in Baroque iconography and all kinds of plastic art. In Ukrainian art, as in the art of other countries, the image of the pelican acquires a symbolic meaning in three hypostases: a symbol of Christ's self-sacrifice, paternal self-denial, and human mercy. Priority in the study of the role and place of the symbol of the pelican in the national culture belongs to an art critic, poet, political activist Natalia Kotsyubynska. Further search for information on the role of ornithological symbols in the system of Ukrainian culture opens the prospect of a deeper understanding of the national mentality of our people. Keywords: symbolic image, pelican, art, Ukrainian culture, Natalia Kotsyubynska.

How to analyze urban areas in the contemporary modern city upon the plurality of forms of appropriation of public spaces? This paper seeks to contribute to qualitative studies on urban perception through the method of cartography. Thus, this writing does not deal with the search for information or data collection, but with the immersion in the ongoing process present in the territory of the old railway bed in the city of Bauru-SP. The text highlights a research practice little explored in this spatial cutout, which tends to contribute to the impact on urban perception and future interventions in this area, as the decanted sociospatial layers are revolved and an urban imaginary little explored is accessed through the development as a research modality.

Purpose This study aims to increase the understanding of the pregnancy-related information behavior (IB) of pregnant women in Estonia. Design/methodology/approach The research involved a quantitative research methodology consisting of a semi-structured questionnaire. Data was collected from pregnant Estonian women through a self-administered Web-based questionnaire using a convenience sampling during the period from January to February 2019. A total of 300 pregnant women answered the questionnaire. The data were analysed using statistical analysis and the results of the study were compared with the results of previous studies. Findings The three topics on which information was most frequently sought were: fetal development, use of medicines during pregnancy and symptoms of pregnancy. The main sources of information were the internet and the midwife. The most reliable and valuable source of information was a midwife. Health-related information was sought mainly because it helped women make decisions related to pregnancy and childbirth. A number of factors facilitate the information seeking process. In addition, widespread access to the internet and technological skills facilitated IB. The following factors hindered the search for information: the controversy and/or ambiguity of information published on the internet and the time spent searching for information. Most women used wearable technologies during pregnancy. Research limitations/implications This study has several limitations. First, the weakness of online surveys is the potential lack of representativeness, as it excludes from the survey those who do not have access to or ability to use the internet for various reasons (Evans and Mathur, 2005; Limbu et al., 2021). Second, as most recruitment for the study took place online, there was a risk that those who did not use the internet could be excluded from the survey. Third, as the questionnaire was also shared in the Facebook news feed by the Women’s Clinic and Maternity Hospital of the East Tallinn Central Hospital, it may be that the respondents recruited through it more often used the support provided by medical professionals. Fourth, due to the volume limits of the study, it is not possible to present all the results of the study on the basis of socio-demographic characteristics and stage of pregnancy. Therefore, the findings cannot be generalized to the broader population and future studies should explore a larger and more representative populations. Practical implications This study will give some useful information to help to improve the services offered for pregnant women in Estonia. Social implications The findings of this study may inform how to better support this target group. Originality/value There is a lack of research in Estonia that focuses on the IB of pregnant women and this research fills this gap.

This article analyzes the informal sector of entrepreneurial education — free “open” educational projects at the federal level in the context of broader trends in the development of education and society, including education’s ‘unbundling’. The search for information was carried out using the Internet, as a result 45 initiatives were discovered. The results show that the sector of entrepreneurship education is broad, but there are a large number of areas for improvement, in which universities can play an important role. In particular, this concerns elaborating and implementing a system for evaluating educational results, organizing monitoring of the effectiveness of such initiatives, including the analysis of success stories. In addition, a separate task is to expand the set of targeted programs for specific audiences (for example, unemployed), as well as to improve the content of such initiatives more deeply according to the specifics of the relevant target groups (for example, young mothers or older people).

PurposeThe purpose of the study is to examine enterprise searching practices across different work areas and work tasks in an enterprise search system in an international biotechnology company.Design/methodology/approachA mixed-method approach studying employees' authentic search activities during a 4-month period by log data, questionnaire survey and interviews. The log data analysed the entire active searcher group, whereas the questionnaire and interviews focused on frequent searchers.FindingsThe three studies provided insight into the searching activities and an understanding of the way searchers used the enterprise search system to search for information as part of their work tasks. The data identified three searcher groups, each with specific search characteristics. Four work task types were identified, and for all four types the searchers applied a tracing searching technique with use of contextual and historical relationships as paths.Practical implicationsThe findings point to the importance of knowledge on historical and contextual relations in enterprise search.Originality/valueThe work sheds new light on enterprise searchers' information search practices. A significant contribution is the identification of a tracing search method used in relation to four essential work task types. Another contribution is the importance of historical and contextual knowledge to support the tracing search and decide what paths to follow.
