In order to explore the changes that autonomous vehicles would bring to the current traffic system, we analyze the car-following behavior of different traffic scenarios based on an anti-collision theory and establish a traffic flow model with an arbitrary proportion (p) of autonomous vehicles. Using calculus and difference methods, a speed transformation model is established which could make the autonomous/human-driven vehicles maintain synchronized speed changes. Based on multi-hydrodynamic theory, a mixed traffic flow model capable of numerical calculation is established to predict the changes in traffic flow under different proportions of autonomous vehicles, then obtain the redistribution characteristics of traffic flow. Results show that the reaction time of autonomous vehicles has a decisive influence on traffic capacity; the q-k curve for mixed human/autonomous traffic remains in the region between the q-k curves for 100% human and 100% autonomous traffic; the participation of autonomous vehicles won’t bring essential changes to road traffic parameters; the speed-following transformation model minimizes the safety distance and provides a reference for the bottom program design of autonomous vehicles. In general, the research could not only optimize the stability of transportation system operation but also save road resources.

A phenomenological laboratory investigation has been conducted of the IP response of pyrite, chalcopyrite, and chalcocite. The technique that was used is standard in electrochemistry and employs rotating disk electrodes. The effect of rotation is to stir the electrolyte and thus to restrict the maximum distance available for diffusion of electroactive aqueous species. For high rotation speed and low excitation frequencies, the mean diffusion length exceeds the thickness of the diffusion layer. The net effect is to reduce the electrode impedance at low frequency. The thickness of the diffusion layer and thus the impedance at low frequency can be controlled by the rotation speed. Measurements using rotating disk electrodes have been conducted in both the time domain and the frequency domain. For both pyrite and chalcopyrite, the results were the same: no dependence on rotation was observed. For frequency domain measurements with chalcocite, a strong dependence on rotation was observed. The interpreted diffusion layer thickness was found to depend on rotation speed to the [Formula: see text] power, in agreement with results predicted by hydrodynamic theory. The results of this study imply that there are two physical processes responsible for electrode polarization in the IP method. For chalcocite and perhaps other related copper sulfide minerals, the probable mechanism is diffusion of copper ions in the groundwater. In case, the phenomenon is correctly described by the Warburg impedance. Chalcocite’s distinctive response is thought to be related to its forming a reversible oxidation‐reduction couple with cupric ions in solution. No other common sulfide mineral forms a reversible couple with its cations in solution. For the other minerals of this study, the lack of dependence on rotation implies that diffusion of active species in the electrolyte is not the controlling process. Possible alternate mechanisms include surface controlled processes such as surface diffusion or adsorption phenomena. Ancillary data obtained during this study indicate the interface impedance of chalcopyrite is proportional to the electrode potential which in turn can be controlled by rotation speed, electrolyte composition, or application of an external dc current or voltage. This implies that the surface concentration of active species is dependent on electrode potential.

In this paper the relation of surface roughness of bearing surfaces to allowable film thickness is studied quantitatively with a simple Michell pad apparatus. The pads used were faced with white metal and ran against mild steel collars. The lubricants studied were water, soap solution, paraffin, and light oil. There was little difference in the frictional behaviour of any of the lubricants, except that the aqueous lubricants would not run with very finely finished steel surfaces. The onset of metal to metal contact was detected by an increase in the frictional drag, and also by the change in electrical conductivity between the pad and collar—an extremely sensitive method. The paper shows that there is, at any rate for this system, a quantitative relation between the total surface roughness of the rubbing surfaces and the calculated oil film thickness both at the initial metal to metal contact and seizure. Initial contact occurs when the outlet film thickness, calculated from normal hydrodynamic theory, falls to three times the maximum surface roughness and seizure occurs when it is double the average roughness.
