Hydatid disease is a zoonotic infection caused by larval stages of dog tapeworms belonging to the genus Echinococcus (family taeniidae) and is also referred to as echinococcosis. Human cystic echinococcosis caused byE. granulosusis the most common presentation and probably accounts for more than 95% of the estimated 2-3 million annual worldwide cases. The liver (70–80%) and lungs (15–25%) are the most frequent locations for echinococcal cysts. The diagnosis is made through the combined assessment of clinical, radiological, and laboratory findings. The treatment is mainly surgical, and, with appropriate diagnosis and treatment, prognosis is good. With advances and increasing experience in laparoscopic surgery, many more attempts have been made to offer the advantage of such a procedure to these patients (Chowbey et al. (2003)).

A review of the literature on brown recluse spider bite is presented, including clinical presentation and treatment. Emphasis is placed on the treatment of local tissue necrosis. A case report of a severe necrotic ulcer secondary to a spider bit is presented. Tissue necrosis following a brown recluse spider bit can be debilitating, and healing may be prolonged for many months. Even with early treatment, prognosis often is poor. Future studies might help establish better treatment regimens.

Nectrotizing enterocilitis(NEC), a disease predominant in the premature formula fed infants, is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in NICU survivors. The symptoms may vary from apnea, fever, lethargy to abdominal distension, bloody stools, poor feeding and vomiting. The mainstay of treatment is the IV feeds, discontinuation of oral feeds, nasogastric (NG) decompression, possible breathing support and surgery. The objective of this case report is to discuss the presentation, treatment, prognosis and proposed preventative measures of NEC, which can help raise awareness and henceforth improve the management and subsequent prognosis of this disease. Authors present to you the case report of a VLBW (Very Low Birth Weight) premature infant with NEC.
