Graphene was synthesized by microwave-hydrothermal chemical reduction of graphite oxide using hydrazine hydrate as the reducing agent. Graphene was characterized using X-ray diffraction, UV-visible spectrum, FT-IR spectrum and scanning electron microscopy. Results indicated that the as-prepared graphene was wrinkled and comprised fewer graphenes with a highly crystalline structure.

Nano- Mg(OH) 2 was synthesized by co-precipitation method. Peaks between 500 and 1250 cm-1 in FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the presence of metal hydroxide stretching. TGA inferred that above 600°C, 50% of residue weight remained. HRTEM of nanocomposite gave an idea about the nonspherical morphology of particles of size 25 nm to 30 nm. SEM inferred that flower-like morphology for pristine Mg(OH) 2 and higher % weight of aniline-intercalated Mg(OH) 2 had agglomerated structure. UV visible spectrum inferred the presence of Mg 2+ ion at 275 nm and the presence of amino-group-intercalated Mg(OH) 2, which had a sharp peak at 193 nm and the intensity of which increases with the increase in % weight of aniline. PL inferred that aniline-intercalated Mg(OH) 2 showed a lower intensity of which increased with higher wavelength value than the pristine and nanocomposite with PVA.

The work includes synthesis and characterization of new ligand and its complexes with divalent metal ions such as cobalt, nickel, copper and zinc. This project includes firstly, the synthesis of Schiff base by reacting P-aminoacetophenone with 2-amino-6-methylpyridine by the reflux reaction for 6 hr. and at 70 ° C. The second step involves the synthesis azo-Schiff base containing ligand which was prepared by the reaction of the Schiff base with the heterocyclic 1,2,4-triazole. The prepared ligand was characterized using spectroscopic methods such as Infrared spectrum, UV-visible spectrum, 1HNMR and 13CNMR spectrum. In the third step, the ligand complexes were prepared by the reaction between the ligand and the metal ion salts to obtain the related metal complex. Some properties of the prepared compounds were studied such as the solubility. The prepared complexes were characterized using IR spectroscopy, UV-Visible, conductivity, magnetic sensitivity, and the atomic absorption technique was used to determine the percentage of each metal in its complex.

This research involves the preparation of new ligands 1,1,2,2- tetrakis (sodium acetate thio)ethylene(L1) and 1,1,2- tris(sodiumacetatethio) ethylene(L2), through the reaction of disodium thioglycolate) with tetra chloro ethylene or tri chloro ethylene in (1:4) or (1:3) moler ratio . Homodinucliar complexes of general formlu [M2(L1)] and [M2(L2)ClH2O] , when M= Co(II), Ni(II), Cu (II) and Zn(II) also mono nuclear complexes of general formula [M(L2)] . The prepared complexes were characterized using spectral method (UV/Visible/ IR) , metal content analysis , magnetic and atomic measurements . The spectral and magnetic measurement indicats that some complexes have tetrahedral or square planar complexes environtment .
