Immersed exercise has been shown to induce higher energy expenditure and no difference or increase in food intake compared with similar exercise on land. In this study, we compared the effects of acute high-intensity cycling performed on land versus when immersed on subsequent energy intake (EI), appetite sensations and perceived exertion (RPE) in healthy men. Ten participants in a postprandial condition completed three experimental visits in a randomized order: a control condition (CONT); a high-intensity interval cycling exercise performed on land (HIIE-L) and the same exercise while immersed in water (HIIE-A) with a similar targeted heart rate. We observed no difference in energy and macronutrient intake and in area under the curve (AUC) for appetite sensations between sessions. The RPE at the end of HIIE-L was negatively correlated with EI (r=–0.67; p < 0.05), AUC for hunger (r=–0.86, p < 0.01), desire to eat (r=–0.78, p < 0.05) and prospective food consumption (r=–0.86, p < 0.01). Conversely, the RPE at the end of HIIE-L was positively correlated with AUC for fullness (r = 0.76 , p < 0.05). No such correlations were observed for HIIE-A. The present study was the first to observe that immersion did not influence EI after HIIE cycling, but immersion blunted the relationship between session RPE and subsequent energy intake and appetite sensations relative to HIIE on land.

Abstract Context Early glucose abnormalities in people with CF (PwCF) are commonly detected by continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). Relationships between these CGM abnormalities and oral glucose tolerance testing (OGTT) in PwCF have not been fully characterized. Objective(s) 1) To determine the relationship between CGM and common OGTT-derived estimates of β-cell function, including C-peptide index and oral disposition index (oDI) and 2) to explore whether CGM can be used to screen for OGTT-defined prediabetes and cystic fibrosis related diabetes (CFRD). Study Design/Methods PwCF not on insulin and healthy controls ages 6-25 yrs were enrolled in a prospective study collecting OGTT and CGM. A subset underwent frequently-sampled OGTTs (fsOGTT) with 7-point glucose, insulin, and C-peptide measurements. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to test the association between select CGM and fsOGTT measures. ROC analysis was applied to CGM variables to determine the cutoff optimizing sensitivity and specificity for detecting prediabetes and CFRD. Results A total of 120 participants (controls=35, CF=85), including 69 with fsOGTTs, were included. CGM coefficient of variation correlated inversely with C-peptide index (Cpeptide30-Cpeptide0/Glucose30-Glucose0) (r=-0.45, p&lt;0.001) and oDIcpeptide (C-peptide index)(1/cpep0) (r=-0.48, p&lt;0.0001). In PwCF, CGM variables had ROC-AUCs ranging from 0.43-0.57 for prediabetes and 0.47-0.6 for CFRD. Conclusions Greater glycemic variability on CGM correlated with reduced β-cell function. However, CGM performed poorly at discriminating individuals with and without OGTT-defined CFRD and prediabetes. Prospective studies are now needed to determine how well the different tests predict clinically-relevant non-glycemic outcomes in PwCF.

Education influences a changes in knowledge, attitudes, and lifestyle patterns in the selection of the type and amount of food consumed. The health of a pregnant women affects the fetus in her womb. Nutrient content consumed by the mother will be absorbed by the fetus which is important for the growth of the fetus itself. This study aims to determine the relationship of education level, energy intake and protein nutritional status of pregnant women in the Bungoro Health Center Work Area of Bungoro District, Pangkep Regency. This research is an analytical study with cross-sectional design. Samples were pregnant women, amount to 40 people. The level of education is obtained through a questionnaire. Energy and protein intake was obtained through 2x24 hours recall and then processed using menu A software. To find out the relationship between variables of education level, energy and protein intake with nutritional status, Chi-Square was tested using the SPSS program. Data is presented in the form of tables and narratives. The results showed that 77.5% of the sample education level was high. Sample energy intake was classified as less than 82.5% and 17.5% classified as good. Sample protein intake of 95% classified as poor and 5% classified as good. Nutritional status of pregnant women is 70% experiencing KEK and 30% normal. Statistical test results show that there is no relationship between education level, energy and protein intake and nutritional status of pregnant women in the Bungoro Health Center Work Area, Bungoro District, Pangkep Regency.

Abstract: Humans need a certain amount of energy in order to support the growth and activity. Energy can arise due to combustion derived from carbohydrates, fats and proteins in foods consumed by the body, therefore to have enough energy one should consume enough and balanced food.Nutritional status is a state of the body that is the final result of a balance between the nutrients into the body and its utilization. Adolescence (10-19 years) is a period that is often prone to nutritional problems, because in this period there is less and over nutrient intake. This study aims to determine the relationship between energy intake and Student’s Nutrition Status of  Faculty of Medical Education, University of Sam Ratulangi Manado Year 2013. This study was an observational analytic using cross - sectional approach. Results of statistical analysis using the Spearman rank test shows that, the value of the correlation coefficient (r) of - 0.234 on IMT and 0.077 on WHR and p value of < α = 0.05 on IMT and 0.514 > α = 0.05 on WHR. From the results it is concluded that there is a significant relationship between energy intake with BMI, while the relationship between energy intake with WHR there is no significant relationship. Energi dapat timbul karena adanya pembakaran yang diperoleh dari karbohidrat, lemak dan protein dalam makanan yang di konsumsi oleh tubuh, karena itu agar energi tercukupi perlu  mengkonsumsi makanan yang cukup dan seimbang. Status gizi adalah keadaan tubuh yang merupakan hasil akhir dari keseimbangan antara zat gizi yang masuk ke dalam tubuh dan utilisasinya.Masa remaja (10-19 tahun) merupakan masa yang sering rentan terhadap masalah gizi, dikarenakan pada masa ini terjadi asupan gizi kurang dan asupan gizi lebih. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan asupan energi dengan status gizi pada mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Dokter Angkatan 2013 Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sam Ratulangi Manado. Penelitian ini bersifat observasional analitik dengan menggunakan pendekatan cross-sectional (potong lintang). Kesimpulan: Hasil analisis statistik dengan menggunakan uji spearman rank menunjukkan bahwa, nilai koefisien korelasi (r) sebesar -0,234 pada IMT dan 0,077 pada WHR serta nilai p sebesar < α = 0,05 pada IMT dan 0,514 > α = 0,05 pada WHR. Dari hasil tersbut disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan bermakna antara asupan energi dengan IMT sedangkan hubungan antara asupan energi dengan WHR tidak terdapat hubungan yang bermakna. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is characterized by a wide spectrum of phenotypic characteristics such as; deep coughing, increased mucous production, and weight loss. However, only recently was the role of inflammation on the etiology of the disease recognized. CF is characterized as a cyclic progression of infective exacerbations and stable periods initiated by the presence of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa (PA). An increase in inflammatory cytokines/mediators and a decrease in anti-inflammatory cytokines contribute to the net inflammation and overall tissue destruction of the lungs. PA is associated with the low iron status that is seen in 60-75% of the CF population, through the presence of iron sequestering siderophores which distract iron from the tissues. Iron deficiency (ID) initiates further symptoms such as; fatigue, tachycardia, weakness, brittle nails etc, in addition to those caused by CF. The colonization of PA may be the cause or a result of increased iron (ferritin) concentrations in the lungs, but independent of the original relationship, results in a decreased iron status. Iron is used by PA under hypoxic conditions such as in the fibrosis lung, as a source of energy. Studies on the relationship between CF and ID contribute a variety of possible causes although currently no direct connection has been discovered. At this stage, further studies in this area are needed. This review will primarily focus on the affects of CF on iron status in humans, and secondarily examine the effect of mediators of inflammation in respects to ID.
