As of late, the scourge of abducting, cybercrime, terrorism, armed robbery, prostitution, brain drain among others has established an oddity among young people. For this, federal government have acquainted several scheme to assist in checking joblessness among youths. In March 2012, the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) initiative introduced Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship (SAED) Programs into the NYSC orientation course content. The objectives of the scheme incorporate sensitization and mobilization of young graduates for skill acquisition, assistance of preparing and tutoring in business enterprise development. This study look at the usefulness of the NYSC-SAED program in reducing youth restiveness and unemployment among young graduates in Nigeria. 60 Corp members currently serving were interviewed using key informant interview and Focus Group Discussions. Significant theoretical and empirical literature were reviewed. This research was supported on Strain Theory. The study population comprises of 60 Corp members selected arbitrarily from Anambra State. The information gathered were analysed using simple percentages and descriptive statistics. Greater part of the respondents recognized that the NYSC-SAED program has made them to become independent after the service year since they set up their independent company with the little training they got. The study therefore recommend that efforts ought to be geared towards leasing with financial institutions and protection offices to help in giving funds and protection which will help in living condition and improve their businesses. Likewise, SAED handouts ought to be made accessible to all Corp members at the camp at no expense to guarantee full participation by every one of them in the training.    Keywords: Skill Acquisition, Training, Unemployment, NYSC-SAED, Mobilization, Entrepreneurship Mentoring.

Training programs for new farmers are proposed as a solution to rural food insecurity, rural development, and the recruitment and training of younger farmers simultaneously. However, evaluation of these programs and evidence for their individual or collective impact is sparse. In this paper, we use in-depth interviews combined with an exploratory model to evaluate the current and potential effectiveness of a farmer training program in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We use the model to represent the theoretical progression of farmers through three subsequent stages of skill acquisition: training, new farmer (practicing skills on land owned by the program) and experienced (farming on their own). We find that recruitment, access to local markets, rapidity of skill acquisition, and access to start-up costs are all important factors that facilitate trainees’ transition to farming on their own, but of these, start-up costs for independent farming appear to be the most significant barrier. While this model is exploratory and not predictive, these insights can inform the design of effective programs for training farmers. In addition, this study also demonstrates how systems dynamics can be a valuable method to evaluate and maximize the effectiveness of training programs.

The present study was undertaken to analyze the participation of women labor in rice production activities covering randomly selected 50 rural households of two villages under Ranisonkail Upazila of Thakurgaon district. Data were collected from the selected households using face to face semi-structured interviews during December 2013 to February 2014. The study revealed that in rice production activities the percentage of hiring out days for women were 94.18 and 92.90 in aman and boro seasons, respectively. To determine the effects of the explanatory variables on women labor participation in rice production, Ordinary Least Square method was used. The analysis showed that age of the respondents and total household expenditure were positively related with women participation but negatively related with education, number of male earning members and farm size of the households. The study concludes that education, credit facilities, extension and motivation, need-based training should have the potential to increase women’s participation in farm activities reasonably contributed to household income. Therefore, effective initiatives undertaken by the concerned agencies in improving women’s education, skill acquisition training and access to information could enhance women’s empowerment in order to achieve gender equality and development at all levels in the rural society of Bangladesh.Res. Context  Poor dynamic limb alignment during loading tasks has links to the development of knee injuries, including patellofemoral pain and anterior cruciate ligament injury. Therefore, modalities to improve limb alignment during loading tasks are thought to reduce loading through these structures and potentially prevent injury. Objective  To compare hip-strengthening and skill-acquisition training to examine if they can improve lower limb biomechanics, potentially preventing injury, and to examine whether changes demonstrated can be maintained after 6 weeks of no practice. Design  Controlled laboratory study. Setting  Laboratory. Patients or Other Participants  A total of 19 recreationally active individuals volunteered, and 17 (9 women: age = 27.9 ± 3.1 years, height = 165.4 ± 8.4 cm, mass = 60.5 ± 9.2 kg; 8 men: age = 30.4 ± 6.4 years, height = 181.4 ± 7.1 cm, mass = 69.8 ± 15.2 kg) completed the study. Nine participants were allocated to a hip-strengthening program; 8, to a skill-acquisition program. Intervention(s)  Participants performed a 6-week training program of either hip strengthening (n = 9) or skill acquisition (n = 8) 3 times per week. Main Outcome Measure(s)  Measurements of clam-exercise strength, hip-abduction strength, frontal-plane projection angle, hip-adduction angle, and a qualitative score were taken at baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks. Results  We observed improvements in frontal-plane projection angle (strength: t8 = 5.344, P = .001; skill: t7 = 4.393, P = .003), hip-adduction angle (strength: t8 = 3.597, P = .007; skill: t7 = 4.722, P = .002), and qualitative score (strength: t8 = 3.900, P = .005; skill: t7 = 8.283, P < .001) postintervention, which were retained at the 12-week retest in both groups. Conclusions  A 6-week intervention of either hip-strengthening or skill-acquisition training improved lower limb biomechanics. The changes in biomechanics after skill training were retained at 12 weeks, suggesting a change in motor patterning that could be favorable to longer-term injury prevention.

Nigeria is presently facing serious security challenges and instability that threaten our existence as people of one destiny. This article examines the important roles agricultural education can play in ensuring our national security. Vocational agriculture is a skill acquisition training programme for youths to be self-employed and self-reliance in agricultural production for empowerment. In addition, democratic principles and the rule of law must be enshrined in our political life for equity, fairness and justice. The roles of agricultural education in ensuring national security are in the areas of reduction in rural-urban migration, youth empowerment and reduction in youth unemployment and growth in industry. In conjunction with this, government needs to take pro-active security measures for the security and safety of the nation.

This study examines the implication of household income composition on infrastructure maintenance in the residential core of Akure, Nigeria with a view to providing suggestive recommendations that will remedy identified problems in the research locale. With regards to this, an estimated of 1% research population were served questionnaire, amounting to 425, using systematic random sampling technique with replacement. Findings revealed that residents in the study area are low income earners with larger population influenced by market proximity, low prices of staple food items and affordable but tumbledown housing. Likewise, essential facilities are in poor state owing to poor maintenance. Besides, household income induced variables considered in the study, which accounted for 75.6% of the challenges limiting routine facilities maintenance in the study area. The study recommends skill acquisition training, resource collaborative efforts and soft loans scheme to boost the income generation of residents in this locale.

To ensure optimal auditory development for the acquisition of spoken language, children with hearing loss require early diagnosis, effective ongoing audiological management, well fit and maintained hearing technology, and appropriate family-centered early intervention. When these elements are in place, children with hearing loss can achieve developmental and communicative outcomes that are comparable to their hearing peers. However, for these outcomes to occur, clinicians—early interventionists, speech-language pathologists, and pediatric audiologists—must participate in a dynamic process that requires careful monitoring of countless variables that could impact the child's skill acquisition. This paper addresses some of these variables or “red flags,” which often are indicators of both minor and major issues that clinicians may encounter when delivering services to young children with hearing loss and their families.
