AbstractThis article aims to offer some methodological reflections in relation to the historical study of phraseology in Juan Fernández de Heredia’s work. Specifically, we intend to reflect on the incidence of lexicalization processes within the framework of the edition project of the Grant Crónica de Espanya by means of the study of the phraseological unit por mal querencia de / por malquerencia de. This is intended to highlight the need to preserve the original state of the text in its graphic aspect and, in the case at hand, at the point referred to the union and separation of words.

AbstractIn 2014 through 2018, Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and History Museum of Quxian County conducted a systematic archaeological survey, detection, and excavation to the Chengba site in Quxian County. The excavation uncovered 4,000sq m in total, from which 444 various features were recovered and over 1,000 artifacts were unearthed. The functional zoning of this site has been roughly made clear; the excavations of the western gate and important building foundations of the Guojiatai city site are important archaeological discoveries of the city sites of the Han through Western Jin dynasties, and at the checkpoint site on the waterway of this period was uncovered for the first time in China. The large amounts of bamboo slips and wooden tablets unearthed in the excavation provided important materials for the explorations on the management of the central government of the Han and Jin empires to the administrative areas of commandery and district levels and the social lives of the local people at that time.

There have been different explanations of the text written on strip no. 1 of the Chu bamboo slips excavated from Yangtianhu 仰天湖, Changsha 長沙, Hunan. Based on a newly published Warring States private seal inscription containing a two-word first name as well as the ancient habit of using loan graphs, this article suggests that the expression cuo shu 疋in the bamboo manuscript should be read as cuo ju 蔖苴, meaning “shoe insoles made of straw.”

The scanning of Silicon Carbide (SiC) epitaxy wafers for defects by ultraviolet (UV) laser or lamps is widely prevalent. In this work, we document the effects of UV light excitation on the SiC epitaxy material. An increase in background photoluminescence (PL) is observed after repeated scans. The effect of this increase on defect detection is shown. Optimal surface treatments to recover the material back to the original state are demonstrated. Further, some surface treatments are proposed which reduce the effect of the UV light excitation and prevent to a large extent the rise in background PL.

The paper describes results of studies of phase transitions in structural phase state occurring in the type 0.34C-1Cr-1Ni-1Mo-Fe steel under electrolytic plasma nitriding in nitrogen-containing water solution. The nitriding voltages considered in the given study were 550 and 600 V. The research was conducted by means of X-ray diffraction electron microscopy. The specimens were studied in two states : 1) before modification (original state) and 2) after nitriding in the surface layer of the specimen. The study was conducted on thin foils. It was found that nitriding lead to significant changes in the structure of steel, namely in its phase composition and in the number of existing phases. In the original state the structure of steel was given as lamellar pearlite, ferritic carbide mix and fragmented ferrite. After 550 V nitriding it was lath martensite, plates of α-phase, with colonies of thin parallel plates of γ-phase and coarse grains of α-phase, containing γ-phase grains which were different in size and shape and were various-directional. Increase in nitriding voltage up to 600 V lead to change in the structure given as a lamellar non-fragmented pearlite and fragmented ferrite. The original state was marked by presence of particles of M3C cementite, after nitriding irrespective of the voltage it had the particles of M3C alloyed cementite, Fe3Mo3N nitride and Cr2C0.61N0.39 carbonitride. The sizes, volume fractions and locations of particles were dependent on nitriding voltage.

Abstract The late 8th/14th century saw a renaissance of high occultism throughout Islamdom—a development alarming to puritan scholars. This includes Ibn Ḫaldūn (d. 808/1406), whose anti-occultist position in the Muqaddima is often assumed to be an example of his visionary empiricism; yet his goal is simply the recategorization of all occult sciences under the twin rubrics of magic and divination, and his veto persuades more on religious and social grounds than natural-scientific. Restoring the historian’s argument to its original state of debate with the burgeoning occultist movement associated with the Mamluk sultan Barqūq’s (r. 784/1382-791/1389 and 792/1390-801/1399) court reveals it to be not forward-thinking but rather conservative, fideist and indeed reactionary, as such closely allied with Ibn Qayyim al-Ǧawziyya’s (d. 751/1350) puritanical project in particular; and in any event, the eager patronage and pursuit of the occult sciences by early modern ruling and scholarly elites suggests that his appeal could only fall on deaf ears. That it also flatly opposed the forms of millennial sovereignty that would define the post-Mongol era was equally disqualifying. I here take Šaraf al‑Dīn ʿAlī Yazdī (d. 858/1454), Ibn Ḫaldūn’s younger colleague and fellow resident in Cairo, as his sparring partner from the opposing camp: the Timurid historian was a card-carrying occultist and member of the Iḫwān al-Ṣafāʾ network of neopythagorean-neoplatonic-monist thinkers then gaining prominence from India to Anatolia via Egypt. I further take geomancy (ʿilm al-raml) as a test case, since Yazdī wrote a tract in defense of the popular divinatory science that directly rebuts Ibn Ḫaldūn’s arguments in the Muqaddima. To set the stage for their debate, I briefly introduce contemporary geomantic theory and practice, then discuss Ibn Ḫaldūn’s and Yazdī’s respective theories of occultism with a view toward establishing points of agreement and disagreement; I also append a translation of Yazdī’s tract as a basis for this comparison.

We propose two kinds of schemes for multiparty remote state preparation (MRSP) of the multiparticle d-dimensional equatorial quantum states by using partial entangled state as the quantum channel. Unlike more remote state preparation scheme which only one sender knows the original state to be remotely prepared, the quantum state is shared by two-party or multiparty in this scheme. We show that if and only if all the senders agree to collaborate with each other, the receiver can recover the original state with certain probability. It is found that the total success probability of MRSP is only by means of the smaller coefficients of the quantum channel and the dimension d.

The twin plant method is central in every research whose focus is checking the diagnosability of discrete-event systems (DESs). Although the property of diagnosability has been extended over time, and several proposals have been advanced to perform a distributed analysis, diagnosability checking still relies on the exploitation of the twin plant method. However, the twin plant structure is redundant, which is a drawback, above all if the considered DES observation is uncertain: in such a case, several distinct twin plants have to be built in order to check the diagnosability for increasing levels of uncertainty. A higher uncertainty level requires a twin plant of larger size. The paper first gives some preliminary thoughts to the reduction of the twin plant size. Next, on the ground that no contribution in the literature has altered the original state-based representation of the twin plant, the paper shows how to transform such a representation into a transition-based one. Finally, it reports some investigations aimed at reducing the effort needed to produce each twin plant: a twin plant inherent to a higher uncertainty level can be produced by incrementing the twin plant relevant to the lower level.
